I Lost Him

Harper was so scared and confused at the same time. The doctor didn't sound well on the phone and Harper had no other choice but to go check things out for herself. Harper ran back inside and headed straight to her room without glancing at Grandma Judy and Caleb. "Where exactly are you going?," Caleb asked as he tried to stand up from his seat. "Harper dear," Grandma Judy called out to her. Grandma Judy didn't know what exactly had happened, she feels that Harper must have heard something bad for her to rush off like that without saying anything to anyone. Harper banged the door as she entered her room and banged it again immediately she was done changing into something more comfortable and headed out. Caleb wasn't happy with the noise, he hasn't said anything yet because Harper is not aware of the rules in the house. "Be right back Nana," Harper said as she stormed out of the building and boarded a cab who then took her straight to the hospital. "Welcome Ms Davis." The doctor said immediately he saw her running towards him. "Doctor please is my dad okay?" Harper asked, not minding his greetings. "You need to calm down Ms Davis, he is actually dying slowly. At this point I don't know what else to do and he isn't responding to treatment." Harper was stunned. Dad is dying, but how come. She knows that it was money that the doctor needs in order to heal her dad but hearing that her dad was dying was what she could not understand. She didn't think that it had become this serious. Harper's mind was in a mess. She had never believed that she would ever hear this from the doctor. She did everything she could to raise money for her father to the point of getting married to Mr Wilson but still he is dying. "Can I see him?," she asked the doctor. "Sure." They both arrived at where her dad was and Harper saw her mom whom she hasn't seen for months now. Harper has been in contact with her mom ever since her dad sent her out of the house and brought in Charlotte Davis and her daughter. "Mom," Harper said, as she went over to hug her mom and couldn't help but started shedding tears. Clinton Davis was lying on the bed, his breathing was shallow and his eyes were barely open. He laid down like a dead corpse and immediately he saw Harper he raised his hands in her direction. "Why daddy, why aren't you responding to treatment. I didn't know that your sickness had gotten this bad." Harper said as she held her dad's hands. Tears welled up in her eyes. "Will he be okay mum," Harper asked her mum knowing fully well that she doesn't have answers to that question. "I'm so sorry dad that you have to fight this alone." Harper said as she bent down her face. Immediately Charlotte Davis and her daughter entered inside, pretending to show concern to Clinton Davis. "I tried all I could, but Harper was slow in raising the money. There was no money in the house and we were owing debts here and there." Charlotte Davis said while pretending to care so much about Clinton Davis. "My father is not dead, so mind how you speak." Harper corrected her for using the word, 'i tried all I could..' Mr Davis ignored everything Charlotte had said but instead his gaze fell on Harper, with tears in his eyes, "Harper my baby. I'm...so sorry...for everything I...have caused...you and...your mum. And it...has been my... utmost...regret...ever since." "Please...forgive...me," he said as he held Harper's hands and looked straight into Linda's eyes, who happens to be Harper's mum. "It's fine dad, you don't need to...." Harper said but couldn't finish her statement when she noticed that her dad's hands that were holding her suddenly let go. Harper couldn't help but start crying profusely. She never imagined that her dad could leave her on this earth. Harper felt she was too young for her dad to leave her. Everything was happening so fast she had gotten married to a stranger and now her father was gone just like that. The day of the burial was a gloomy one, everyone had decided to bury him immediately which happens to be the next day. Not many people attended because they weren't aware of what had happened. Harper and her mom were the only two people remaining at the cemetery at that point after everyone had already scattered. Harper placed her head on her mom's shoulder. "Mom, will you ever forgive dad," Harper asked, not sure of what was going through in her mom's mind. "I have already forgiven him a long time ago but I will never forget how he treated me. I have always loved him and till now I still do." Linda said as she began to shade tears again. "Relationships are really complicated, it wasn't easy to forgive him like that but I just couldn't hold that grudge against him." Linda added. Later that night Harper arrived back at Mr Wilson's mansion carrying her bags she took from her house. Harper inside the mansion and the whole place was smelling of alcohol, she met a few people who were seated and a lady who happens to be by Caleb's side. "Welcome Back Mrs Wilson," Mrs Rose said as she took Harper's bag from her and headed towards her room. Harper decided not to greet anyone and started working towards her room till Caleb called her back. "Where have you been, you ran out of the house for two days now without saying anything to anyone. You really made Nana so worried." Caleb said with a commanding tone. "Ohhh, so this is the wonderful Harper Davis that I have heard about." The lady by his side said as she stood up from her seat. "I didn't know Grandma Judy was worried," Harper responded and started making her way to the room before she was stopped again. "Stop right there," Caleb yelled. "Well I'm in a good mood so for your punishment you will have to come right here and entertain my friends and I." Harper felt so shocked as she heard that from him. "What does he mean by entertain," Harper couldn't help but wonder to herself. Harper decided to ignore him. She was going through a lot at that point and doesn't want anyone to provoke her. "Are you deaf, Mr Wilson gave you an order and you are still standing there." The lady said as she made her way towards where Harper was standing. Harper knows that Caleb was very arrogant but for him to allow his mistress talk to her like that wasn't what she will likely take. The lady held Harper's hands and try dragging her but immediately Harper stopped her and gave her a dirty slap. "Don't you ever touch me with your miserable hands." Harper said and immediately walked up to her room and slammed the door in annoyance. The slamming of the door was already getting to Caleb and his friends were surprised that he didn't say anything about what just happened and how Harper just slammed the door. Caleb just stood there as he raised his glass of alcohol to his mouth. He has heard that the Davis daughter was an innocent one and a quiet one but what he saw right now was the opposite of what he actually heard. "No food or water for her for two days and she is banned from leaving this house," Caleb said immediately as he sighted Mrs Rose coming out of her room.
