Working Doll

1393 Words
This monster, what is with him, he’s something else that’s for sure, he’s got my heart racing in more ways then one, I remember him from a few weeks ago, how could I forget a f*****g skeleton came to our drive thru, everyone knew it that day, as happy as the boss was he was pissed the skeleton didn’t buy any of the girls. I heard the skeleton came back, for two weeks after that, both of the weekends while I was out of the city and I still heard about it that’s how big of a deal a skeleton coming in here is, though it made the boss even more pissed off, after two more weeks of showing up he still didn’t buy a girl, is this guy the same skeleton? I wonder. “So, you like McKindlies I take it” I probe.  “Not even a little bit” he tells me taking a sip of his drink. I’m surprised and going off his smile I look it too, “there are some rumors going around that a skeleton,” I speak carefully “has been coming here for every meal everyday for the last two weeks,” I explain, expressing my curiosity. “Is that so” he seems disinterested. “I thought it was you” I feel a little silly for admitting this to him. “Why’s that?” he asks keeping a fixed smile on me. Looking up at him I hesitantly answer “I had a feeling; you are the only skeleton that’s come here and the only one I’ve ever seen” I’m worried saying skeleton is offensive but Duran’s not indicating that it is. I watch his smile widen then he casually answers, “yeah it was me” taking another sip of his drink. “Well if you don’t like it here then why keep coming?” “Because Aileen, I was looking for my doll” I’m confused as he smiles down at me, for a moment I think he is talking about an actual doll, the moment passes as he brushes my long bangs behind my ear. “Oh” I look down flattered and flustered, I’m not sure what to do, “so, did you find your doll?” same thing I’ve been doing for years, play dumb. Duran looks almost surprised, one of the perks of playing dumb I catch them off guard putting them on the spot to spell out the obvious, “of course I did, doll” I can feel my cheeks become hot with embarrassment. Still Duran’s hand in my hair feeling its softness, “you, you came here tonight looking for me?” I’m feeling flustered again. “I did” he runs his callus hand down my arm, “I wanted to see you again” he moves a little closer “I couldn’t stop thinking of that day I first saw you” I want to leave. Duran’s skull is inches from my forehead his eyes narrowed on me, I feel my heart beating a mile a minute, sure its been like that this whole time but now, now it’s for a different reason, this creep is stepping over a line here. Relaxing and sitting up straight Duran still looks down at me, “I don’t mean any disrespect, probably not the most flatterin’ of things being told I’ve been coming to your place of business for the past while hopping to see you again” he explains, I’m not so easily swayed. “But there’s somethin’ about ya’ doll, Aileen,” he tilts my chin up looking longingly in my eyes, “your lips, your eyes, any man would be a fool to pass you by, which is why I couldn’t, I couldn’t just let you go, not while your working at a place like this” he sighs thinking to himself letting my chin go, I shiver from his release. I would turn and run if I could. “Aileen, hearing that manager of yours say you weren’t on the market yet made my soul leap” he laughs a little, a bold laugh unmistakably his. “Because that means I’m clean?” I try to smile without laughing, hope he doesn’t think this makes me a virgin; Duran’s being nice, sure, but he could be rough at anytime and I have no way out if he does get rough, so nice is what I’ll be, nice and dumb. Duran looks down at me smiling his big-ol’ toothy smile, he’s caressing my arm while he speaks “doll, I didn’t care about that, I don’t care about how many men you’ve been with or haven’t been with, a woman like you shouldn’t be working in a place of business who offer their woman for business, those men wouldn’t treat you right, not the way I’m going to treat you,” it wasn’t the answer I thought he was going to give me, I don’t know what I thought he was going to say but that definitely wasn’t it. I blink a few times looking at his stomach and legs, trying to think of how to answer, though his suit is distracting me, I can tell the good material it’s made from and seeing it all wrinkled from him sitting here all day puts thoughts into my head I can’t quite explain. I’m piecing out how all of what he’s telling me is making me feel, I feel flattered and scared, annoyed and light headed, most of all I feel happy, I don’t know why. Duran gently takes my chin tilting my head up to him, his eyes have been black with a romantic red hue glowing through his sockets, he’s leaned his head down to me pressing my lips to his teeth though I can feel his own lips kiss me, my eyes hang heavy for a moment before I close them and kiss him back. Duran is the one that breaks the kiss, my eyes still feeling heavy as I look up at him, “you look tiered doll, do ya’know how much it’d be for me to take you out of this dump?” he asks pushing my hair behind my ear again. Coming back to my reality I’m stumped for a moment, “umm, it’s $40 for an hour, $10 for every added hour or hour you go over, to take them for the night would probably be close to $210 adding the last few hours of my shift anyway” I tell him, a little unsure of the numbers. “Cheep bastards” he says under his breath, “well go get your stuff” he tells me, easing out of the both, he straightens out his suit as I slowly creep to the edge of the seat. “You mean we’re leaving?” I ask looking up at the massive monster. He smiles down at me, “course we are, I’m taking you out” he says with a wink taking my hand and helping me out of the booth, “now go, hurry, I’ll wait here for ya” he tells me, I smile nervously to his smile. Walking in the back where my coworkers are, a few of them try to stop me and ask me questions, but I just wave them off and head for the managers office, its funny no one on the night shift really cared or asked me many questions, no one seemed interested in knowing me or about me, but now that I’m a ‘working girl’ a girl bought by a skeleton, things are different, I guess because the night shift don’t get to or aren’t allowed to sell themselves, yet we have to deal with the drunk horny people and the junkies. In the office I tell my manager that the skeleton wants to take me for the night, gosh it was weird saying it aloud, my manager informs me of how much Duran had paid already and that with the ‘tip’ the skeleton gave me I should be sure to thank him extra ‘kindlie,’ I hate this job so much. After informing my manager, I head to the ladies change room, putting my jacket on and grabbing my purse where I store my visor, I head back out to the work area, some of the girls are smiling and wishing me luck, others glare at me, I don’t know which is worse. Into the lobby I see the elderly couple give me a funny look as well, the booth Duran was sitting in is empty, I see him standing out side beside the both, all I have been thinking of since I spoke to my manager is why did he kiss me, why am I leaving with him and why did I kiss him back? I head outside.
