Belgian Waffles and black coffee served to Demire’s table. It’s a good food to pair with coffee and he really liked it. The small pantry inside the company is to where he thinks Sofia got them. Her presence made him stop from working with his computer. He’s not hungry, but he knew her tummy was. He even heard it roaring and she looked exhausted already. “Have a seat.” He handed over the seat in front of his study table.
Sofia went confused staring at him. “Sorry?”
“You didn’t hear me?” he asked sarcastically, “I asked you to prepare foods for two. Is there anyone here I could eat with rather than my secretary?” He waited her answer but she remained standing in silence. He shrugged his shoulder when he did not receive any response from her. He started to eat the food she prepared for her.
Sofia bit her lower lip and sat on the chair in front of him. She smiled when they eyes met. They shared the meal with coffee. The important thing comes up to her mind immediately was her stomach gotten have anything to digest. She was planning the afternoon to eat her skipped lunch tonight alone with ten cups of rice and pizzas. But then he offered to share meals with him, she decided to lessen what to eat later. “Thank you, Mr. Goddard,” she just said with a genuine smile on her lips.
He nodded. “Sometimes we need a break after the long time of work.”
“But how about the other employees who’d working—”
“Sofia, I can’t treat them all here. I’m busy too.” I just noticed you didn’t go out to have lunch together with your friend, Gabriella. A hard work of yours should be pay off. He wanted to tell her those words but decided to keep it on the back of his mind.
“Yeah, I know.” That was the only thing they talked about during meals until they finished. She went back to her table and started to call some person with business appointment with him for tomorrow. It was exactly what he ordered to her because he has place to go into tomorrow morning. She finished her work at nine and left her cubicle, did not bother to disturb him inside his office. She booked for a cab and waited it outside the company entrance. The cab is about five minutes to arrive when two men on the road walking to pass her direction and holding the bottle of beer with their hands. The guard on the entrance was busy inside checking his area if there was still an employee working at this hour. Sofia took a deep breathe and looked away to avoid the men’s attention paste to her, but it was such an effort to disregard because their eyes locked onto her unwantedly. Sometimes, she wanted to hurt herself for being so attractive with some person that has bad intention or rude and for being prone in different troubles.
“Hey, are you waiting someone to pick you?” one asked her, this man has a big bum on his tummy, long hair and many tattoos on his shoulder. She sighed and did not gave him any response. They stopped walking and stared at her from head to her toe. She does not like the way they look at her so she decided to go back inside the company. She run so fast to get back inside the Goddard, unwantedly she bumped into a hard chest. The same hardness she bumped to his chest the night the kiss happened.
“Sofia, are you alright?” Demire looked at Sofia tossed on the floor. “Why are you running?” He leaned on the floor to level her face. He saw her eyes full of fright and he has no idea why, he’s tired and cannot sense what happened to her using his own powerful ability.
“Demire!” She hugged him and relieved, feeling safe on his chest.
“What happened?” He became more worried about her now. “Tell me what just happened, Sofia!?” He parted her away from him, holding both of her shoulder. He stared at her eyes, trying to read her.
“I was about to get in trouble again.” Sadness drew her face. She sighed again ang again.
Demire escorted her to sit on the sofa. “What do you mean? Did anyone touch you or hurt you?”
She shook her head immediately. “I’m okay now, I feel relieved because you are here now.”
“Alright.” He stood up and checked his wrist watch. “Wait me here, I’ll go back upstairs to get my car key. I will send you home.”
“Are you sure about it?”
He faced her confused. “Of course, I am. Why wouldn’t I?”
She sighed. “No, I mean… I know you’re tired already and the way to my home was far to your—”
“Cut that shit.” He turned his back to her and left to get his car key. The moment he realized the sudden silence between his room and Sofia’s cubicle, he worried she left without even disturbing him and when he opened the door and saw no one on her table, he walked down the lobby to find her. Few lights were turned off and nobody left working inside the whole building except him. He saw her panting, running towards the dark side of the lobby. Thought she noticed him but she didn’t that’s why she accidentally bumped his chest. As soon as he got his keys, he used his speed to go back to the lobby not wasting any second but he stopped on the darkest part to hide and went back walking slowly, just like human he was pretending. “Let’s go.”
“Thank you, Mr. Goddard—I mean, Demire.”
He’d just nodded.
