ELIJAH'S POV

I was now in the woods with my people as we went hunting. I made sure to keep a close eye on Jace and Adira, seeing Jace's mother's death is tonight.

'Your mate sure knows how to hunt, by this point she'll be the only who caught all the 12 rabbits, Alpha.'

I only smirk at what my lead warrior in-formed me. Adira has caught 11 rabbits and there's only one left, by this point we'll all be going back to the pack house with our heads low.

'Well we cant let her get the last rabbit now can we?' I replied, he only laughed as he agreed. This time I picked up my pace so I could at least bring home one rabbit.

"Wow Adira, I can't believe you caught all of the rabbits." Jace said proudly as he watched Adira move onto a kitchen stool.

"Well when you're a hungry rouge you learn a thing or two about hunting more stealthy." She replied as she brought the glass of water to her mouth.

"Makes sense." Jace replied as he went to go search for food in the fridge.

That's when Adira got up, ready to go back to that spare room she's been hiding in all morning.

I walked behind her up the stairs as I put my hand on her lower back, leading her to my office.

"We need to talk." I explained as I kept my gaze forward.

"Fine, but only because I have something I need to discuss with you too." She huffed, but I couldn't help but smile knowing she's willingly going to talk.

We were both now in my office as I leaned on my desk in front of Adira, as she took a seat.

I let out a sigh as I slumped my shoulders, then looking up at my mate.

"I'm." I looked any where besides her, I couldn't say it, not looking directly at her.

"Sorry."

That caught Adira's attention as her bored expression turned into a wide smile.

"You're what?" She asked acting dumb as she put her hand to her ear.

Yeah, she was enjoying this. Great.

"I said. I'm sorry." I gritted out. I never apologised in my life, because the decisions I've made were for my pack's safety.

"Can you repeat that one more time, I couldn't hear it over all that arrogance." She smirked. Yup, she was loving this.

"I said I'm sorry Adira." She then looked satisfied as she got up and started to walk out.

"Where are you going." It didn't come out as a question, but a demand.

"No where, seeing you have me all locked up." I rolled my eyes as I walked towards her, putting my hands around her waist.

"What are you hiding from me?" I asked with a gentle tone, but she only put her small arms around my neck.

"Nothing, I promise. I just need to go rest before tonight." I nodded in understanding as I kissed her on the forehead.

"I've got to go check on Jace, but I'll come get you before it starts." I explained with a loving smile, but she seemed afraid and anxious.

"Don't!" I looked at her with questioning look, wondering why she was so nervous about me seeing her.

"Why not?" I asked lowly, but she only pushed me away as she looked down.

"Adira." I snapped, which made her look up at me in fright. I mentally scolded myself for making her jump, but she was keeping something from me. I know it.

"it's just, it's been a while since I've seen someone die, last time it was my friend." She looked down. Although I understood her reason, I felt like there was more to it then this explanation. But I didn't push it, I didn't need another argument to happen just after we patched things together.

We walked out of the office, I went the left way down the hallway while she took the right.

I was about to take a turn until I heard Adira.

"Elijah!" I looked back at her, she looked upset but she soon smiled weakly. "Goodbye." She smiled.

"I'll see you soon, my love." I assured her, which made her turn around and start walking away.

I then went my way, still confused of how Adira was acting. But I shook it off, knowing her she doesn't like it when people try and help her. So, instead I went in search of Jace, to see how he was doing.
