ELIJAH'S POV
It was now 2 in the morning and I could sense that Adira just woke 5 minutes ago. I didn't say anything, but found it comforting to be near her, with no pressure, no one else around. Just Adira and I.
But the silence was taken away, happily with Adira's voice.
"Elijah? Are you awake?" She seemed uneasy, her voice was unbalanced and when she rolled over to face me, her expression looked terrified.
"Yes, my love." I replied as I got up, and was now in a sitting position on the bed.
"What's wrong?" I asked as I pushed the few strands of hair away from her eyes. That's when I felt it. Her hair was wet. That's when I sniffed the air.
She's sweating? That's when I put my forehead on hers. She's burning up.
I quickly put the lamps on that were sitting on the nightstand.
"Elijah, what are you doing?" And once the lights were on I saw her beautiful face, but they were covered by damp tears that were going dry.
"Tell me, what is wrong?" I said as I started pushing her hair out of her face, and then cupped her cheek and rubbing circles with my thumb.
"It's okay." She whispered as she leaned into my hand and closed her eyes. I swear she was making me fall in-love with her even more, and she doesn't even realise it.
"It's not okay." I replied, a bit louder. Just so she understands I will not let anyone scare my beautiful mate. Not now, not in the future. Not even in death.
She then opened her tear red eyes as she looked up at me.
"It happens all the time." She explained as a tear falls down her cheek, I couldn't help but kiss the tear away.
"What does, my love?" I whispered into the skin of her cheek.
"I-I get dreams of my mom. Well there more like-"
"Nightmares?" I cut her off. She looked back up at me and nodded. Nodded in shame, but there was nothing to be ashamed about. She had demons, everyone does.
I just hope she can count on me to help her with them. With anything and everything that bothers her.
She closed her eyes, I'm guessing she didn't want to see me. She thinks I will judge her, when that's the last I thing I would do.
"I have them too." I replied, making her eyes snap open in shock.
"You do?" She asked curious as she sat up, facing me properly.
I chuckled a bit at her sudden interest and then looked down.
"Everyone has parents around here, even the adults have their parents here." I then took a deep breath.
"Mine died when I was 6. I don't remember much, but I've been told they were the reason this pack still stands."
She looked taken back at my confession, but her eyes changed, they weren't showing the pity people usually give when they hear this story, but respect. Not respect because of my title, but because of my past.
"I have nightmares of that day, well more like memories." I sigh then look at her dead in the eye, showing her caring eyes.
"So, I know what it's like to be suffocated by those dreams and not being able to control them." She looked taken back, but then smiled. And gosh, her smile could light up the soul of the must grumpiest man. And I love her even more for it.
Then she unexpectedly hugs me. She just puts her arms around my waist and hugs me. I couldn't help but hug her back as a wide smile crept on my lips.
I missed her way too damn much.
"Thank you." She whispered.
I smiled at her gratitude, and replied "I'm always here for you, my love."
We soon lay back down, she was calm again. Not shaken up like I saw her earlier. I can't help but feel happy for making my mate calm, for making her comfortable.
This time instead of her laying on the other side of the bed, she snuggles closer towards me and wraps her arms around my waist as she leans her head on my naked chest.
"Goodnight." She whispers as she dozes off.
I kiss her on the forehead while mumbling "Goodnight." back to her, as I let the last few hours of sleep take me, seeing I have a long day tomorrow.
