THE JOB OFFER

~Riley~ I made the decision to visit my father when I was released from the hospital, as he had just left the operating room. By the time I arrived at the room where my dad was, Leo and Claire had made up their minds to head home. I could tell as soon as my dad saw me that he felt horrible about hurting me, my mum had just stepped out earlier to get something for him so I didn’t meet her there. "I'm sorry, my daughter; my hands were tied, please forgive me," he said. Tears eventually sprang from my eyes as I heard those words from the man I respected and trusted the most. "I trusted you, dad, but you betrayed my trust. Why would you give your consent when you know fully well that Leo doesn't love me?" As my father said, his voice startled. "Riley, I apologize; I truly needed his help. In addition to my already poor health, my firm was failing. I had run out of options." Leo would not have received his fortune because his father only required him to marry and have children at his age. He also explicitly stated that he wanted Leo to marry into my family because of the assistance I had given him years prior. You are aware that having a Walter family connection is not a common occurrence, and Leo made significant financial investments in my business. I was left with no option. You ought to have at least told me the truth, I remarked to him. Dad, those are just excuses, and they don't really matter. I wouldn't have fallen for a man like that if I had known the reality. "How could you do this to me?." I then wiped off my tears and left my dad in the hospital room before returning to Leo's house. I pulled out the card I was carrying and debated whether or not to call Mr. Alexander, because he had told me to come to his office the next day, I wanted to hear his voice for some reason, although I'm not sure why. I was concerned that Mr. Alexander might not answer my phone since he did not have my number. But then I called him. I had hardly thought of it when he picked up the phone. I said, "Hello." He said, "Riley right?," and I answered, "Yes." I apologize for phoning at such a late hour, but I needed to find out what time I should arrive at the office tomorrow morning. "Come to my office as early as eight in the morning and don't be late" . Riley, I'll be waiting for you. "Good night." I was ecstatic when the call ended since I had been thinking that he might have changed his mind. The following day, I got ready quite early in the morning. I was really conscious of how I looked, making sure that my makeup looked amazing. I put on the red dress I had purchased and a black shoe. When I stepped out of the room, Leo was also about to leave for work, I noticed Claire pulling at his tie. She kissed Leo and cradled his face in her hands as soon as she spotted me. "What was she trying to do?, is she trying to make me jealous?." I smiled and murmured to myself. Claire gave him a slap on the arm when he asks me, " should I give you a ride to wherever you are going to?" but he didn't even bother to look at her. With a head shake, I said, "Don't bother." After that, I left the house and took a taxi to the SOL foundation. Alexander had given the order, so when the receptionist saw me, she directed me to Alexander's office on the fifteenth floor. In an attempt to arrive sooner, I chose to take the elevator. As soon as I arrived at the large glass door leading to his office on the fifteenth level. He yelled, "You're fired," and a man emerged from the office inconsolably as soon as I heard it. The same voice said, "You're all dismissed." I was afraid to go in at this moment because I didn't want him to take out his resentment on me after they had all left whispering to one another. When I plucked up the confidence to ask whether I should come in, he said, "Come in." When he spotted me, he asked if I had been waiting, to which I instantly replied, "No, sir." As I glanced around the large office, all I could think about was how much more attractive Alexander appeared in his black suit than when I had first seen him. "Are you okay? " he questioned, glancing around the office before focusing on me. The air conditioner is on, yet you're still perspiring." "I'm sorry sir, it was because I was rushing to meet up that's why," replied I. He took the chance to give me a full body stare, and although I could see a smirk on his face, he said nothing. He motioned for me to take a seat as we approached his desk. "So, for what role are you applying? He said, "What are you good at?" I pondered for some time, but I was at a loss for ideas. He continued, "You will be my new secretary," after he had waited for my reply for some time. I asked, "Just like that, sir, no interview?" with a look of amazement. Riley, I've done my study on you and I can tell you're an honest person. Thus, I think you're competent and have all the necessary experience," he told me. I smiled at him, and I noticed he did too, “his smile is so charming and cute,” I thought to myself. Especially in meetings and seminars, you must be in close proximity to me. You will be responsible for my meals, lunch specifically. While writing them down, I nodded in agreement with what he had stated. "If I may ask sir, what about breakfast?." He answered, "I'm good with coffee." He asked to have my email, sent me some paperwork, and stated, "I've sent you your official employment letter and a list of the benefits you will receive while working here." Meanwhile I need you around today. Then he instructed me to get some documents on his deck and accompany him for meetings. When it was two in the afternoon, I was really exhausted, because I didn't plan to resume work immediately. He called out to me, Riley. "Yes sir." "Go over to Lux hotel to get me my lunch, I have already made an order and told them who is coming to get it," he told me. "You can also get anything for yourself." He chastised me for squandering time when I returned from rushing to the hotel to collect his lunch. "I was taken aback by his behavior toward me; it seemed like he had two sides, good and bad. He would eventually feel happy, and then sad. "I'm sorry, sir," I said to him. He showed me my office by taking me outside of his, and I saw that my office was quite close to his, and from the window I could see him in his office. "Well, I'd heard this floor was merely his office. Why is there another one so near to his?" I asked myself. I was really worn out and drained when the day was finished and I headed home. I made the decision to check my email to see what advantages I would be eligible for as an employee of SOL Foundation. And to my astonishment, it exceeded my expectations. Before I dropped my phone to go shower I received another email from an unknown person, It contained a single line: "You don't know what you're getting into. SOL Foundation is not what it seems. Trust no one." I felt a chill run down my spine. Who was this person? And what did they know about the SOL Foundation?
