The drive way towards the mansion was paved and was surrounded on both sides by beautiful and well groomed vegetation. The road split into two after about 100 metres with a beautiful garden and water fountain in the middle. She drove to the left side of the road and came to a stop at the entrance of the mansion where an old man was standing in wait for her. It appeared he was the one that spoke to her earlier over the intercom.
Alex stepped out of her Mazda MX-5 Miata, as she walked towards him. He was a tall slender man who looked much older than he sounded on the intercom, like in his 70's. He had grey side hair and a bald patch at the centre of his head. He looked proud as he stood at the entrance like a statue waiting for her.
"Welcome Dr. Alex Bryan, I am Arthur", he said, introducing himself to her with a mischievous smile on his face. He wore a surprise look on his face at seeing her as he stood in front of her with his black suit and bow tie.
"Hello Arthur, it's a pleasure meeting you", she said as she stood a few feet away from him. She could see he wore a fake smile and a surprised look towards her.
"I don't mean to be rude but you sounded like you didn't like me personally over the intercom, why is that?", she asked politely.
"My sincere apologies Dr. Alex Bryan but you are mistaken. I do not dislike you in any way, in fact we have never met before and your interaction with me has been nothing but polite", Arthur said, wiping away the fake smile from his face.
He kept quiet after that and she could tell he didn't want to say anymore than what he had said and he was done answering her question.
"Okay", she said, nodding her head to his response. She wasn't half satisfied with his answer but since it was their first time meeting she didn't want to make an issue out of it and so she let it slide.
"Please you can refer to me simply as Dr. Alex or Alex", She said. She preferred being referred to by her first name instead of her full name.
"That won't be a problem Dr. Alex, please come with me", Arthur said, as he led her to the mansion.
As he walked ahead of her, this gave her the opportunity to take in the sight of the beautiful mansion. Its style and architecture was that of an European mansion. It was painted white and three storeys high. It still had its ancient, classical look but it had been modernised to give it a modern feel. She followed him as she walked through the front door of the mansion. The interior design was even more beautiful with a white theme flowing all through. It felt heavenly with the masterful use of white semi-gloss paint all over the walls with fine white leather furniture.
"Please have your seat and feel comfortable. Will you like a cup of tea or coffee?", Arthur asked politely, as was customary.
"I am fine, thank you", she said. She had had breakfast before coming so what was really in her mind was to meet with Piers Anderson.
"Okay Dr. Alex. I'll inform Mr. Piers of your arrival", Arthur said as he walked away.
She crossed her legs and waited patiently for the arrival of Piers Anderson. She had researched a bit about him on her phone before coming here but the information she got about him was a bit sketchy. She waited for a quarter of an hour but he was nowhere to be seen. Half an hour more but still no sign of his presence. She waited for one hour and he was still nowhere to be seen. It was as if she was in a ghost house and everybody had disappeared. Arthur himself had not returned with any news about him.
"Where is everybody? What is going on here?", she asked, puzzled. She was confused and beginning to get frustrated but she decided it was best to maintain her calm.
"Mr Piers Anderson must have a good reason why he hasn't come to see her yet", she said to herself consolingly. She sat down more comfortably on the couch as she waited some more. One hour soon turned to two hours and then three hours but still there was no sign of Piers Anderson .
"Where is everyone?!", she asked worriedly, as she got up from her cosy seat. She was beginning to get scared and couldn't stay here alone all by herself. She was faced with two options; either to go back home or to go look for Mr Piers Anderson. She chose the latter as he went in search of him in his big mansion.
She started with the first floor, going exactly to the place she had seen Arthur pass some three hours ago.
"I hope the old man isn't dead", she said, as she walked through the passageway.
"Maybe he died on his way before he could deliver his message to Mr. Piers".
As she walked further into the passageway before taking a left turn. Further down the passageway she could hear the sound of male laughter at the distance. She thought the male voice sounded like that of Piers but that at best was an assumption as she had never heard him speak in person before. She continued walking towards the direction of the sound until she arrived at his study.
She straightened up her dress and smiled to ensure she looked her very best. She had no clue what was happening but she had all the intentions of getting this job. The pay was better, the environment was beautiful and her client was breathtaking - at least from his online photos. It was a three-in-one combination she could not get over.
Piers Anderson hurriedly walked outside of the study accompanied by Arthur, who was attempting to catch up. Her smile widened as soon as she caught sight of him and she was delighted she applied for the job.
He was far more attractive than he appeared in his photographs. He was taller than 6 feet, possibly 6'6. His stunning masculine facial features were enhanced by his well-cut black luscious hair that was neatly styled with a light stubble beard. His eyes were dark and seductive and he had a celestial nose. His lips were a pale pink colour. He was dressed casually in a white long-sleeved shirt, grey slacks, and white sneakers. As he stopped a few feet away from her, he looked stunning and fashionable.
