Alex breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't know who fired the shot at the exact moment she was about to be discovered by it but she was forever grateful to whoever it was.
She waited for a few more seconds until the coast was clear before coming out from behind the bush where she hid. She knew what she had to do now, she had to run in the opposite direction, away from the beast.
"I have to get to the gate as fast as I can before it returns", she said, as she made her way quickly towards the gate, leaving the mansion behind. As she ran her mind wandered back to Piers, she was going to be leaving him behind.
