My eyes narrowed at the man on the other side of the window. He had intense green eyes and a boyish grin. He definitely knew he was a good looking man.
“Allow me to formally introduce myself,” he stepped closer to the window. “Jaime, Luna.”
I looked up at him. I felt an intense dislike for him.
“Elara. Can't say it's that much of a pleasure honestly.”
He chuckled, his voice low. “Well, I am certainly pleased.”
His emphasis on ‘pleased’ sent a shiver down my spine.
Ophelia groaned. “Jaime, don't.”
“Fine. I'll stop,” he laughed. “Luna, I hope to see you at my little get-together next week.”
“I wouldn't count on it,” I replied dryly.
“Please do grace us with your presence,” he grinned. “Everyone is eager to meet the new Luna.”
He stepped away from the car and backed away into the trees, completely disappearing.
“Where'd he go?” I looked out the window as Ophelia began driving off.
“Not sure. He's really nice though. Give him a chance.”
I just shrugged.
We did a little shopping, buying clothes we certainly didn't need. Nevertheless, for the first time since these wolf people kidnapped me, I was genuinely enjoying myself.
When we got back to the house it was already nighttime. I went into the house first, leaving Ophelia in the garage as she parked the car. To my dismay, Xavier was waiting in the foyer. I felt my entire body tense up.
“What do you want?” I spat, a hand on my hip as the other clutched my shopping bag.
He raised a brow. “Excuse me?”
“I stay here and you stay there, remember?”
Xavier watched me for a moment. “I don't think you quite realise what this is. You're like if I was given a new car for my birthday. You are my possession. Understand it, hybrid.”
“What do you want?” I asked again, calmly.
As if I would give him the joy of seeing me riled up.
“I need you to be ready tomorrow morning by 5.” Mr Grumpy commanded. His eyes trailed over me. “Wear something…decent. My grandmother would like to meet you.”
I frowned. “What? Why?”
He sighed softly, shoving his hands into his pockets. “I'm not sure, Elara. Maybe because you're the Luna but I don't know.”
“Asshole,” I huffed under my breath.
“Werewolves have impeccable hearing, hybrid.”
I nearly groaned aloud. Why was he like this?! I watched him for a second. You know, if he wasn't such a douche I would've actually thought he was decent looking. I could almost see his arm muscles outlined through his leather jacket.
“Sorry Alpha,” I mumbled. I don't see why you had to go and insult my outfit though. What about it isn't decent?” I looked down at my jeans and white button down sweater. “You picked out all these clothes anyway.”
“Zelda did. Do you think I have time to go shopping?” He raised a brow. He went on. “And I wasn't insulting your clothes. I meant you should wear something with more class.”
“Classier than this Ralph Lauren sweater?” . “This is as classy as it gets. What, you have beef with Ralph Lauren or something?”
Xavier scowled. “A dress. I meant a dress.” I could see his patience was running out. “My grandmother would appreciate a dress.”
“And I—”
“Alpha, Miss Charlotte is here,” Zelda announced.
She walked in right behind Zelda. You know, I didn't like Blondie, but I had to admit, she was beautiful. Like a f*****g doll. I wanted to rip her stupid head off.
“Alpha,” she nodded at Mr Grumpy before turning to me. “Luna Elara.”
Her face looked as if she was in pain as she said it. I nearly smiled.
“Charlotte,” I returned.
“I would like to speak to the Alpha in private, please, but first let me apologise for my behaviour on our last meeting. I'm sorry. I wasn't in my right mind.”
“Clearly,” I said without thinking. “Neither was I.” I quickly added. “So, I'm sorry too.”
Charlotte nodded. “Thank you. I do hope to clarify something, Luna. Xavier is marrying me and I will be his wife. The only ties we have to you is you being the Luna. That's it.”
The nerve of this tight-faced b***h.
“Of course,” I forced myself to say. “I want nothing to do with either of you, Charlotte.”
“Great. Now if you'll excuse us.”
I looked up at Xavier. “What about—”
“Tomorrow,” he stated. “Be ready early in the morning.”
“Fine,” I nodded before I walked off. “I'm going out for a walk.”
“Don't even think of running,” Xavier called out as I stormed out.
I opened the front door and headed out. The security guards let me out and I began walking away from the mansion. The streets were quiet and empty. The sun was starting to set, and it was a beautiful sight.
I wondered what mom was doing back home. I missed her so much. She must've been so confused why I was acting so strange, but I constantly assured her that everything was fine. She had no idea that I was no longer with Randy and Nora. As far as she was concerned nothing had changed. I couldn't endanger my mother by revealing the actual situation to her.
Randy and Nora called often. Sometimes I didn't answer. I never knew what to say. Neither did they.
I felt tears fill my eyes as I watched Xavier and Charlotte drive off. I couldn't understand why seeing them together brought up these feelings in me.
