Chapter 8

I cursed aloud as Xavier pushed me into my bedroom, closing the door behind him. I shoved his arm away, but it was no use. “Let me go! I want to go home!” I yelled as tears flowed down my face. “Move!” He grabbed my arms, his eyes dark and angry. Grabbing both my arms, he slammed my body against the wall and held them above my head, holding me in place. I could feel his hot breath on my face. “You are not going anywhere, hybrid,” he growled menacingly. “You will stay here. And If you ever disrespect Charlotte like that again, I swear I will kill you slowly and painfully. Do I make myself clear?” My eyes widened. If I was angry then, now I was livid. “She was the one who started! You heard her!” “I don't care, Elara,” his eyes hardened. I hated the way my name rolled off his tongue like that. I shot him a fierce look. “You love Blondie, clearly. Then you have yourself a Luna and you don't need me here. Let me go home. I want to go home to my mother. Please.” He stepped closer, his eyes locking into mine. “I don't think you quite understand our dynamic, hybrid. I own you.” I refused to back down, meeting his rage filled eyes. “Nobody owns me Xavier.” My chest rose and fell as my heart beat wildly. I hated him. I hated the way his scent made my stomach twist in weird ways. I hated his stupid face. I hated everything about him. I swallowed hard as he inched even closer. “Don't make me angry, Elara,” he warned, his voice dropping to a whisper. “It won't end well for you.” “Try me…” I whispered back, suddenly feeling lightheaded. His lips were an inch from mine. He was…he was beautiful. And he was going to kiss me. My Grumpy was going to kiss me. I wanted to move away. I had to move to move away, but my body stayed frozen in place. I felt something burn in the pit of my stomach as I waited. “Elara?!” I practically jumped to the other side of the room as the door flung open. Ophelia was suddenly standing in between Xavier and I, shielding me. I stayed glued to the wall, in some sort of trance. “If you even think of hurting her, I won't hold back,” Ophelia threatened him. I had never seen her without a smile on her face. Now, she was almost frightening. Xavier didn't seem too pleased with her sudden courage. “Watch it, Ophelia.” “She is my Luna. I will protect her with my life if I have to.” Her words sent a chill up my spine. “I'm not hurt,” I cleared my throat, taking my turn to step in between them. “He didn't hurt me,” I turned to show Ophelia that I was okay. “You have bruises on your arm,” her eyes narrowed. I raised my arm to check. It was darkening a little where he had grabbed me. Xavier looked at my arm too, and for a moment, he almost looked apologetic. “Well, you guys are like, super strong,” I stated, clearing my throat again. “It doesn't hurt though. My skin is just really pale too.” Ophelia let out a sharp exhale, stepping back. “Fine.” I lifted my eyes to look at Xavier, only to find Blondie at his side now. She looked down at me, her eyes trailing over me. I was small compared to her, and her looking down at me felt weirdly condescending. She was prettier, taller, better. I shook my head. I was not competing with her. I didn't care. Charlotte cleared her throat. “Elara,” she started, “Luna, I mean,” she said with great effort, “I apologise for my behaviour. No matter what is going on here,” she looked between Xavier and I, “you are still our Luna.” I folded my arms, looking away. “You have to leave, Charlotte,” Ophelia came forward. “Now.” “Of course.” She looked at the Alpha. “Xavier.” The Alpha left without another word, followed by Charlotte. I scoffed. “Asshole,” I huffed. “I meant what I said,” Ophelia came up to me, hugging me. “If Xavier ever tries to hurt you, I will protect you with my life,” Ophelia promised. I wondered if she would actually have to ever risk her life to protect me from Xavier. Or from Charlotte. Ophelia smiled, stepping back “I know what will get your mind off these shenanigans. Shopping!” she cheered. “I don't think I need any more clothes,” I sighed as I glanced at my new walk-in closet, fully stocked with designer clothes I never dreamt of owning. Ophelia locked arms with me as we walk out of the room. “Honey, a girl always needs new clothes. Besides, we're going to a party in a couple of days.” “Who's party?” I blinked. “Jaime. He's throwing this massive bash for his 26th birthday.” I felt my entire body tense up. “Jaime?” Ophelia took my hand. “I know. He wants to ask you for forgiveness. I swear Jaime is a good guy. He didn't mean for any of this to happen. The mate thing is hardly his fault. It's just…fate.” I rubbed my arm as Ophelia led me downstairs. Xavier was gone, and so was Charlotte. Dani ran up to me as soon as she saw me. “Are you alright, Elara?” She asked with much concern. “I'm fine,” I nodded reassuringly. “Everything is okay.” “The nerve of him to bring her here while the Luna is here,” Ophelia sneered. I decided not to say anything more about it. Just thinking about it made my blood boil and I didn't understand why. Ophelia announced our shopping trip to her mother before she left me to the garage. It was on the rooftop. As we walked into the garage, my jaw dropped at the amount of luxury and sports cars lined up against the walls. “Okay, I've been able to tell that you guys are well off, but no one needs this many cars!" I exclaimed. Ophelia laughed, her hand on her hip. "Darling, you need a specific car for a specific occasion. I mean, you're not gonna go shopping in a Porsche Panamera." I raised a brow. "I'm not...?" "Exactly!" She clasped her hands together. "You need something like an Audi r8. Or anything convertible will work. It looks so cool when you just throw your shopping bags over the top." I had no clue what the hell she was talking about. Car talk was for rich people and motorheads. "Besides, these cars are for the whole family. No one actually owns a specific car. We just have personal favourites." We got into the black Range Rover. "All these cars are for your mom, you and Xavier?" I asked her in disbelief, buckling my seatbelt. "We have a younger brother. He's away for school right now. And Charlotte. She's lived here for years." “No way you actually like staying with your brother,” I shuddered. “Xavier can be a sweetheart. Once in a blue moon. Plus, I plan to live at home until I find my mate.” I sighed. “Right. Mate.” My phone vibrated in my pocket, and it was Jess. I had completely forgotten to get back since after the attack four days ago. She must've been panicking. I brought the phone to my ear as I answered. “b***h I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD!” She screamed. “Well hello to you too,” I chuckled. “Where have you been?! I've been losing my f*****g mind! I tried to call your dad but he wouldn't answer. Your mom said she heard from you but she was worried. She said you didn't sound good.” “I…” I trailed off, tearing up. I wanted to tell her everything. I wanted to tell her wolves were real. I wanted to tell her I was suddenly a freaking Luna, whatever that meant, but I knew I couldn't. I closed my eyes, letting the tears fall. “Elara?” “Yeah, yeah,” I tried to sniffle quietly. “I'm okay. I'm good. I was sick. A bad cold, but I'm fine now.” I hated lying to Jess. I never had to until now. “Hey Jess, I'll call you later okay?” I wiped my face with my free hand. “Don't go M.I.A on me ever again El. I will literally kill you. Love you.” I laughed. “I love you too. Bye.” I hung up, grabbing a tissue to wipe my face. I could feel Ophelia turning to glance at me as she was driving. She pulled the car over on the side of the road. “She's my best friend,” I explained through tears. “Her name is Jessica.” Ophelia nodded. “I've never had a best friend. I barely have friends. I've never been good at it, the whole friend thing. Except for Lisa.” “Lisa? The nurse?” I turned to her. “You've met her?” Ophelia smiled. “Yeah, I woke up in the hospital before I was brought to the—” Suddenly there was a loud banging sound at the back of the car that made the car bounce. I shrieked, holding on to my seat. Ophelia burst out laughing. “Relax, it's just Jaime.” My window rolled down, and there he was. The man I believed had completely ruined my life. It was the wolf who brought me here. “Luna, we meet again.”
