Xavier’s POV:
Charlotte opened her bedroom door when I knocked. I could see she has been crying. She was still in pajamas, and it was 3pm. There was an empty tub of mint ice cream on the bed.
I let myself in and shut the door behind me. Charlotte opened her curtains and turned to me with bloodshot eyes.
"What's the matter Charlotte?" I asked her as gently as I can.
She folded her arms. "You can't leave me, Xavier. We promised each other three years ago that we would never leave each other."
I hardly saw Charlotte in such a state, whereby she was not composed, and so it was an unfamiliar situation.
"I'm not leaving you, Charlotte. You and I are getting married. Nothing has changed. "
She eyed me for a second. "You're...she's going to stay?"
"Charlotte, she's the key to helping the pack reach its full potential. You know that."
"So you'll claim her as your mate and I'll be your side piece?" She scoffed.
"No, she'll stay with my mother and Ophelia and do her new duties as Luna. That is her only role and purpose here," I explained. "I will not claim her as my mate, I will not mate with her, but I cannot reject her either. You can continue working at the hospital and we can move into the lake house."
She remained quiet for a long while before finally nodding. "Fine."
I walked up to her and held her chin up.
"She may be the pack's Luna, but you are my Luna, Charlotte. You always have, and you always will be."
She tried to smile. "I love you Xavier. We can get through this."
I nodded. "I'll send Christopher to pick you up. Zelda will pack up all your things at the house."
"No, it's fine. I'll come by myself. I can't stay away from the new Luna forever," she chuckled dryly. "No need to send Chris over. I'll drive myself. "
"Okay. I'll see you when you come by then."
I couldn't have two Lunas but I could not choose Elara. I could not just choose Charlotte either. Charlotte was a valuable addition to the pack. And now, so was the hybrid.
Elara's POV:
I woke up the next morning, and three maids were in the room. I rubbed my eyes.
What the—
"Good morning, Luna," Zelda smiled as she walked in. "These three girls will come in every morning just to help."
One was opening the curtains, another was holding a tray of breakfast while the other seemed to be stocking the closet with clothes.
"No need," I told Zelda as I got out of bed. "I can open my own curtains."
"I know you are capable Luna, but that doesn't mean you have to. The madam and Miss Ophelia would like for you to join them for breakfast."
I got out of bed. "It's not really my choice is it?"
"You are our rightful Luna, Elara," Zelda reminded me. "Frankly you can do whatever your heart wishes."
"Except leave," I grumbled.
I took a deep breath. This wasn't Zelda's fault.
"I just need some privacy please. I'll be down in ten minutes," I told Zelda.
Zelda bowed her head. "Very well Luna."
Zelda clapped her hands twice, and the three maids suddenly followed her out the room like sheep. What the hell was that?
I showered and walked into the closet. The walk-in closet was as big as my room back home.
Shit!
I completely forgot to call my mom. I immediately plugged my phone onto the charger. I picked out a pair of jeans and a sweater before leaving the room. Zelda was waiting outside.
Creep.
She led me downstairs to the dining room, where a breakfast spread was laid out. No way they ate like this everyday. All this for three people?
"Good morning Luna," Ophelia beamed.
"Good morning, " I managed to smile.
I pulled out a chair. I turned to Xavier’s mother. "Good morning."
"Good morning child. How did you sleep?" She asked kindly.
Fitfully.
"Like a baby," I lied.
They were trying to be as nice and as hospitable as possible. Zelda poured me a cup of coffee as I tried to decide what to eat. There were too many options.
"I'm glad," Ophelia chimed in. "So I have taken the responsibility upon myself to introduce you to the pack members."
"Already?" I raised a brow.
"Of course! Everyone already knows you're here. They're excited to meet you."
I slowly nodded.
"So Xavier tells me you lost your wolf at a young age?" Dani asks as she butters her toast.
"Apparently, " I answered. "I only just found out as well. I have a question actually."
They both turn to me.
"Do we have to get married? Like an actual wedding?"
They exchange uneasy looks, then they suddenly both smiled, turning back to face me.
"Well, that decision is up to you and the Alpha," Dani chuckles.
The front door swung open. I knew who it was before I saw him.
"Xavier!" Dani boomed. "We were just talking about you!"
I watched their jaws visibly drop a second later. I also looked back to see what was happening. Behind Xavier, a tall blonde woman walked in as well. She smiled faintly. Suddenly it was tense, but I didn't know why. The Alpha looked at me.
"Elara, this is the woman I'm going to marry, Charlotte, " Xavier said. "We're just here to get our belongings."
I felt my heart drop. What the f**k was he talking about?
I couldn't hide my disapproval. "I thought I was your mate."
"You are. And as my mate, your job is to be Luna. That's all."
My eyes widened. This man was going to lock me in this house alone while he went on with blondie? Not on my watch. Not even on my damned bracelet. He didn't even mention that he had a fiance the entire time!
I walked towards him. "Mates are soulmates, aren't they? I am not going to be your mistress, Alpha."
Ophelia gasped.
"He doesn't need you to be his mistress," the blonde woman spat. "You're not woman enough for him."
I scoffed incredulously. "I don't want to be woman enough for him, but according to what all of you people have told me, I'm supposed to be his mate, his Luna, his wife. You can't just trap me here as have me run a pack of wolves forever while you're slumming it with blondie here!"
"That's enough!" Xavier growled.
I felt myself shrink as we all went quiet. Xavier suddenly grabbed my arm and pulled me so close to him I could feel his breath on my face.
"Know your boundaries, hybrid," he said in a dangerously low voice, "or I will make you watch while I tear every single family apart limb by limb before I do the same to you. Do as I say, and if you ever disrespect Charlotte again, I will make your life hell."
I glared at him with teary eyes. Was I afraid. Hell yeah. Was not going to let him walk all over me like that? Hell no.
"Take your bitch..." I whispered to him, "and go to hell."
