Chapter 4

It had been hours since I was let out of the cage. I was taken to some kind of hospital and given some food and medication. They had to force me to open my mouth after every spoonful. Shit, I was starving, sure. But these were not people. They were wolves. Who knew what they cooked into their food? I had bruises and scratches all over my body from when they dragged me through the forest. I was stuffed with pills by the warden so I would stop screaming, and they made me a complete zombie. It seemed the man who had come to my rescue intended to kill me slowly, because if not, he would have let me go home by now. There was a nurse who stayed in the room with me the entire time at the hospital. I watched her quietly. She was tall and pretty with green eyes. She was nice and gentle, always considerate. I wondered if— “I'm a wolf too, if that's what you're wondering,” she said absently as mixed some together what looked like different kinds of creams. “We all are here.” “Are you going to eat me?” I swallowed. It was a dumb question. I know. “We don't eat humans, Luna. Only animals. Like you humans do. We're not monsters.” “You're wolves,” my eyes narrowed. She stopped and looked at me.“We shift into wolves. We don't live like them.” “What do you want with me then?” “Well, initially they brought you in to kill you. Humans must not know of our kind,” she explained. “Of course, it was Jaime's fault for being careless when he shifted in front of you, but killing you would be the only solution.” Yep. They were definitely monsters. “You said ‘initially’. Does that mean you don't plan to kill me anymore? You'll let me go home?” She smiled. “Well, things suddenly got very interesting. A bit complicated too, but still very interesting. So no, I doubt you'll be dying anytime soon. About your going home, you have to hope fate is not on our side.” I folded my bruised arms. “That doesn't make any sense. What the hell does that even mean?” “It will, Luna,” Suddenly the door burst open, and a familiar scent filled the room. It was the man from earlier. What, did he just dip himself in a pool of cologne every morning? “How is she doing?” he asked, his voice concerned yet careless, not looking at me. “Alpha,” the nurse got up. “ She's doing great, actually. She's ready to go,” he told her. After a few odd minutes of complete silence, he finally turned to look at me for the first time. You know, Stockholm Syndrome is not completely crazy. Not when your captor looks like this man. He had deep brown eyes and almost sandy looking brown hair. A stubble graced his sharp jawline, and he had a scar under his left eye, not deep or ugly, just noticeable. Without it he would've been too perfect. He had strong broad shoulders, he was very tall, and he smelled incredible. I had never smelled anything like it. “What's your name?” He asked me, his expression stoic. “Why? Would you let me go if I told you?” I stood up from the bed, looking up at him. “Trust me, this is a very annoying situation for me as well,” he said apathetically. “Don't annoy me more.” I couldn't hide my scowl, or supress my sarcasm. “Right. I completely forgot I begged to be held captive by f*****g wolves!” He watched me for a long moment before suddenly walking up to me and wrapping his arm around my waist from behind. I tried to claw and fight him off, but it was no use. His arm was made of f*****g steel. He easily lifted me off the ground, throwing me over his shoulder with one arm. “What th—ahh—put me down!” I shrieked, kicking my legs wildly. He ignored me, turning to the nurse. “Thanks Lisa,” he said to her as we left. I tried to get down, fighting him all the way outside, but he simply ignored me as he just casually held me in place with one arm. s**t how strong was this guy?! Another man stood outside in front of an SUV, seemingly waiting for us. “Under different circumstances we'd be celebrating, Luna” the man smiled at me politely as I hung upside down. “Christopher. It's a pleasure.” “You guys are clearly confused! My name is not Luna! I'm not a threat! Just let me go!” I begged them. The man carrying me suddenly threw me into the backseat and shut the door. It locked instantly. “Where are you taking me?!” I demanded angrily. He didn't answer. Instead he just joined the other guy in the front. “I said where the hell are you taking me?!” I screamed at him. He looked back, his eyes cold, and I sank back into my seat. I always stood my ground, but I also knew when to shut the hell up. This was one of those times. I didn't understand. If they wanted to kill me they should've just killed me. Why drag it on like this? We drove for a very short time, maybe like five minutes before we stopped. I looked outside the window to see a large two story house. Great. Now he was going to share the meal with the whole family. Just great. The second man, supposedly Christopher, who had been driving, opened the door for me and offered me his hand, a soft smile on his face. I was about to take it when Mr Grumpy suddenly stood between us, blocking the contact. Christopher smiled wider, raising his hands in defeat and as he walked off. “Are you going to kill me?” I asked Mr Grumpy as he looked down at me. “If you're going to just do it now. I'm not really one for suspense, you know. I'm not afraid to die. I despise anticipation though.” “You know what I despise? Chatterboxes. Shut up and get out of the car.” I had a comeback in mind but decided to keep it to myself as I hopped out. If I made a run for it I wouldn't even have a chance. These people were quick and strong, and they changed into f*****g wolves. I wasn't stupid. I was still in just my bra, but that was the least of my worries. I was just focused on staying alive. He grabbed my wrist a bit too tightly as he led me into the massive house. He didn't even have to knock, because a woman in a black and white maid's uniform opened the door immediately. She smiled. “Welcome home Alpha. Your guests are waiting for you in the drawing room.” He nodded. “Zelda. Get some clothes for her,” he gestured to me. “And prepare a room.” I frowned up at him, but he wasn't looking at me. He was already dragging me across the foyer into another room. “Clearly you're confused about something,” I began. “I am not going to stay here. I cannot. I don't need a room or clothes—” I paused as we entered the drawing room. Tears sprang to my eyes and I let out a choked gasp. Randy and Nora got up as we entered the room, holding out their arms to me.
