Flower

I opened the box and saw a small pendant with a blue eye. The pendant was attached to a simple string. My sense of smell detected an unknown odour. It was mixed with the smell of Lorcan, but I could also smell something sweet and minty. I made a few sandwiches in the kitchen and had a warm cup of tea. A loud knock on the door made my forehead wrinkle. I pushed myself up from the chair and opened the front door. My dearest Lilly was standing outside. "I decided to drop by early." Lilly hugged me. "Well, what a surprise."I hugged her. "What's with the frown?" Lilly looked at me. "It's nothing important, come in." I said as I waved to the inside of the house. Lilly soon settled herself at the kitchen table with a hot cup of tea. "I thought maybe we could spend the day at your place?" Lilly smiled as she drank her tea. "Is this about what happened yesterday?" I looked up from my cup. "I don't want a repeat of that, maybe you'd better get enough rest first." Lilly wrinkled her forehead slightly. "So what shall we do?" I put my cup in the sink. "Karaoke, board games. fashion show, whatever you want?" Lilly stood up from the table. "Great." I replied curtly and headed towards my room. We ended up sitting on the floor and going through my old photo album. "Look at you, you're so small." Lilly pointed her finger at the picture. Her finger was pointing to a picture of Daddy and Mummy sitting on different sides of the bed. Of course they were barely older than me at the time. Mum was twenty-four. In the middle I was a tiny little thing trying to learn to sit up. You could see a big white pillow tucked behind my back. A broad smile played on Dad and Mum's faces. They were immensely in love and happy. "What is that smell?" Lilly looked up from the album at me. "Where? " I wrinkled my forehead and looked at Lilly. I knew that Lilly's sense of smell was not as sensitive as mine. Nevertheless, she still somehow managed to smell the pendant that was lying in my pocket.  "It's like "Wolf's Den." Lilly combed her chin. "I got it from Lorcan." I held the pendant out in front of Lilly. Lilly took the pendant from my hand, put it to her nose and took a deep breath. She smiled, opened her big eyes and looked at me. "This flower is known for its healing properties. It is quite rare, but it smells wonderful." Lilly said. "He just keeps you safe." Lilly said simply. " I know Lilly, he told me it's his duty. I don't see how saving the life of a future slave is connected to duty?" I wondered aloud. "Perhaps he is taking responsibility for the life of a human, after all they work for him." Lilly turned to me. " Lilly they are slaves and they are not paid anything for it. Why should Lorcan worry about someone else's death." I look into her eyes. " Maybe that's just the way it is." Lilly smiled broadly. " I find that strange." I wrinkled my forehead. Silent footsteps reached my ears and a knock sounded on the other side of the door. "Amelia, can I come in? "Mum's voice came from behind the door. "Sure." I said out loud. Soon the door to my room opened and my mother's tired face met my eyes. "Hello Lilly." Mum smiled as she looked at Lilly. "Hello Mrs Jegings." Lilly said politely. "Just call me Ashley. How many times do you have to say that?" Mum winked. " Sorry Ashley, I keep forgetting." Lilly laughed out loud with her mom. I couldn't get enough of the friendship between my mum and Lilly. When they were together, my mother seemed to come alive and she was like a crazy teenager again.  " I wanted to tell that I was going to bed, I very tired. You'll find dinner in the fridge." Mum smiled and hugged me.  " Take a rest mom." I said, letting go of my mother's hand. A few seconds later Mum was not in the room and it was just the two of us with Lilly.  "What next?" Lilly asked in an enthusiastic voice. "Let's go play a board game." I smiled as I opened the wardrobe. "You keep the games in the wardrobe?" Lilly furrowed her brow. We were both settled on the carpeting. We sat opposite each other in the lotus position.  "The best." I smiled as I picked up the heavy box.  Time flew by in a flash. I didn't notice how quickly it got dark outside the window and the first stars shine in the sky.  "Lilly, you can't do this." I said with a light nudge. "Give it back, it's mine." I straightened my hand towards the card in Lilly's hand. "That's enough." Lilly giggled softly. " It's probably time for you." I nodded towards the window. "How many hours after all?" Lilly's hand cupped her forehead. " Plenty, come on jump out the window." I opened the window and held out my hand to her. " Same time tomorrow? Lilly paused and looked back over her shoulder. "Definitely." I waved to Lilly. In one easy movement, she climbed onto the canopy and then, with my help, reached the ground with her feet. Finally, she disappeared around the next bend and I was left sitting alone. For the next hour I just sit on the roof and looked out over the night city. The air finally cooled down and calmed down as night come. I finally changed into my nightwear and got comfortable in bed. Soon my ears were picking up all sorts of sounds coming through the window. With such a natural melody, my eyes closed. I lazily frowned and opened my eyes. The bright room immediately caught my eye. I covered my head with my pillow, not wanting to get up. It felt so good to lie in bed with no one disturbing me and just be lazy. Unfortunately for me, heavy footsteps soon sounded at the top of the stairs. Two more steps and a hard knock reached my ears. "Darling, are you asleep?" Dad's voice came from the other side of the door. "Five more minutes." I put a pillow on my head. "It's time for me and Mummy to go to work, kisses, have a good day." Dad said in a cheerful tone. " Kisses and hugs." I smiled as I lay in bed. Dad's footsteps soon disappeared at the closed door of the house. Well, what a sixth day of freedom, I need to think of something memorable. I opened my wardrobe and pulled out a red free-falling dress just above my knees. I carefully combed my hair and tied it up in a bun. My stomach growled violently. I went into the kitchen and found yesterday's dinner left by my mother in the fridge. While the pan was warming with food, I made myself a hot cup of tea. After a hearty breakfast, I returned to my room and picked up a book from the table. I got comfortable on the bed and start reading. I didn't notice how quickly the time was passing and the pages were changing one after another. My attention was drawn to the sound of the gate of the house. I looked up from the book and the sound of soft footsteps came closer and closer. "Lilly is that you?" I said out loud. I didn't hear any answer so I stood up abruptly from the bed and walked cautiously to the window. "Boo hoo hoo" Lilly shout loudly" " Aaa" I started screaming and took a few steps back. My heart was pounding like crazy and I was looking straight at Lilly with wide eyes. She was laughing loudly, clutching her stomach, and her dark eyes were twinkling with happiness. "What the hell Lilly?" I asked, clutching my chest. "You needed to see your face." Lilly laughed hard. " You could have just walked through the door." I rolled my eyes. " Probably a bad habit." Lilly smiled broadly. " What winds are blowing?" I asked, offering my hand. "I thought you'd be bored, so here I am." Lilly pointed to my room with both hands. "So what are we doing today?" I asked, sitting down on the bed. "A picnic in the woods?" Lilly put a big backpack through the window. "What's this one for?" I pointed a finger at the backpack. "A tent, a sleeping bag and a few other things." Lilly wondered aloud. " I need to find my sleeping bag somewhere in basement." I stood up from the bed. " Need help?" Lilly asked, following behind. " Basements have never fascinated me. It's dark and full of spiders." I rubbed my shoulders with my hands. We took the stairs to the first floor. Behind the kitchen was a door leading to a small cellar where Dad kept all his tools and Mum kept her boxes and unused things. I touched the switch with my hand and the light filled the dark basement. "See anything?" Lilly stood on her toes. "Right there." I pointed my finger at the bag on the crate. I struggled through a few boxes and reached for the sleeping bag. I threw it over my shoulder and went back to Lilly who was waiting for me at the top of the steps. Her eyes were darting all over the loft, I'm sure looking for a spider bending somewhere. "A spider." I yelled, running towards her. Lilly squealed with me and took off at a run for the first floor of the house. I walked at a brisk pace behind her. I could hardly contain my laughter when her face turned white and scared at the word spider. She didn't even consider the possibility that I might be lying. " I'm not going back there." Lilly was standing in the corridor. " You needed to see your face." I laughed out loud. " There was no spider right?" Lilly wrinkled her forehead. " Or was there?" I raised an eyebrow as I looked into her eyes. " Okay enough joking around, let's go get some food." Lilly headed straight for the kitchen. I opened the fridge wide and we pulled out a few packs of sausages, some bread of course, a few tomatoes, half a packet of bread and some water. I knew that Lilly had taken care of everything else. We left the house and headed towards the woods. I knew that my parents would be away until late in the evening, so why not spend the day in a useful way. The weather outside was not cold, although it was early morning, the sun warmed my skin pleasantly. There was no wind at all, maybe just one other leaf of the tree was rustling. After the journey, we finally reached the place where we usually camped. I threw my backpack off my shoulders on the ground and leaned against a tree. I could feel myself getting a little short of air. "Are you okay?" Lilly's forehead showed a few wrinkles. "Yes." I smiled as I sat down on the ground. " Do you have the Wolf Flower Pendant?" Lilly asked, looking at me quizzically. "Of course." I pulled it out of my pocket and showed it to her. " I think it's useful when you have touch with skin." Lilly raised her eyebrows. " Then great, I'll put it on." I giggled a little. In one easy motion I tied the little mask behind my neck. The blue pendant, which instantly started to smell, was just above my collarbone. The pendant was not massive, perhaps slightly larger than a pea. "It suits your eyes." Lilly teased me. " That's enough, let's set up the tent." I pointed to her bag. From then on, everything went very smoothly. Fifteen minutes later, the tent was in place with the sleeping bags inside. Lilly and I stood in front of the tent with our hands on our hips. "Great teamwork." Lilly gave me five. " We're a great team," I gave five back. Next our eyes went to the fire pit where our lunch would be steamed, but there were only stones in a circle. We took the well-known path and collected the random sticks. Finally, with our arms full of sticks, we turned to go back past the campfire. A medium-sized bonfire was finally before our eyes. Of course the only thing missing was a fire. I saw Lilly collapsed on her backpack searching all her pockets. "Did you find it? I asked eagerly. "Finally." Lilly held up the lighter like some kind of prism. A few minutes later, we were warming ourselves by the fire, and we were flicking sausages on a pointy stick. I looked with my blue eyes at the dancing flames. "What do you think?" Lilly's voice broke the silence. "Six days. "I grabbed the sausages from the fire. "I thought the best place to be was where you feel like yourself, and right now that's what you need most." Lilly held out a plate. " I know I might not feel like this any time soon, but thank you for this, you're the best." I hugged Lilly with the plate in my hand. "Always." Lilly smiled broadly. We ate our lunch in silence which was really delicious. I'm not a whole-foods kind of kid, but I could probably eat this every day. Finally, the two plates were lying near the tent, and the campfire was barely smouldering in the distance, "Well, it's bedtime." Lilly smiled broadly. "I agree." I stood up and started to run towards the tent. "I'm not even can stand up." Lilly got off the ground laughing hard. I unzipped the tent and greeted by a light green interior. Inside was a large soft blanket. Two sleeping bags were spread out on the left and right side. I quickly crawled in and made myself comfortable, and Lilly stepped into the tent. She unrolled the edges of the tent and tied it up. This opened up a beautiful forest, meadow and sky. Lilly crossed to the sleeping bag next to me and lay down on her side. After ten minutes, Lilly's breathing became calm. My eyes were still wandering to nature. Wonderful white and gray clouds were circling the sky. The tree branches shimmered with shades of green, leaves moving in the wind. And the meadow, it was beautifully slow dancing. My eyelids closed with these thoughts. I felt a rough movement of my shoulder and open my eyes. Lilly's face was faintly in front of me, and soon I could hear her words. "Come on Lilly, get up, you have to see this." Lilly shook my shoulder. "What happened?" I quickly looked around the tent. "Come outside." Lilly went outside. Instantly, my sensitive sense of smell was confronted with a very strong smell. The scent I wear under my neck, the Wolf Flower. But it was much more pungent compared to what I smelled yesterday. I followed Lilly and couldn't believe my eyes. In front of my eyes were probably a million little Wolf Flowers that smelled amazing. "These are Wolf's flowers, there's a million of them." Lilly grabbed her mouth, As far as my wide eyes could see the whole meadow and undergrowth was covered with little flowers. I rolled my eyes and could hardly comprehend how long it had taken to do all this. Nevertheless, I could tell that the wiev was truly amazing. I could feel my body relaxing and the she-wolf sort of sticking her nose out to see what was going on. A small smile appeared on my face. "It's Lorcan," I threw a glance at Lilly. " It's a beautiful." Lilly couldn't take her eyes off the flowers. The wind blew softly, making the flowers dance in the air. For a moment you would have thought it was snowing. But it was just flower petals dancing in the wind.
