Episode 4 – “Rising from Ashes”
The days after Lei Feng left had blurred together in a haze of white lilies and shattered dreams. A month had passed, yet Li Xue still felt the cold emptiness of that morning. Every corner of her apartment reminded her of him—the tiny pendant on her dresser, the handwritten notes she had tucked away, the soft laughter of their imagined future echoing in her mind.
Hui Ying came over almost every day, trying to coax her back to life.
“Xue, you can’t just hide in your apartment forever,” Hui Ying said, pouring her tea with a frustrated sigh. “Even a small walk outside will do you good.”
“I’m… fine,” Li Xue whispered, staring blankly at the city skyline beyond her window. “I just… need time.”
“Time,” Hui Ying repeated, frowning. “Xue, you’ve given him months of your heart. Maybe it’s time you gave yourself one.”
Her mother, Lian Hua, joined in during a quiet evening. “Your father and I worry about you,” she said softly, brushing a strand of hair from Li Xue’s face. “Xue, life doesn’t end because of one man. You’re stronger than you know.”
Li Xue smiled faintly, but her eyes betrayed the ache inside. “I… I know. But it hurts, mother. More than I ever imagined.”
Her father, Ming Wei, who rarely spoke words of emotion, rested a firm hand on her shoulder. “Xue, when you fall, you must stand taller. This pain… it will shape you, if you let it.”

Weeks later, her friends finally convinced her to attend a high-profile business gala. The chandeliers sparkled above, their light reflecting off glass walls and sleek suits. Li Xue felt like a ghost in the crowd, a white gown from a wedding that never happened still haunting her thoughts.
“Just… try it,” Hui Ying whispered, adjusting her friend’s elegant black dress. “Maybe seeing the world outside your grief will remind you there’s life waiting for you.”
Li Xue nodded, though her steps were heavy. She watched people laugh, shake hands, exchange business cards—life moving on while hers had stopped.
Then, across the grand hall, she saw her.
A woman, commanding yet graceful, radiating confidence in every step. She wore a tailored emerald-green suit, hair sleek, eyes sharp and intelligent. Every move spoke of achievement, power, and control. A subtle aura surrounded her, as if the room itself bent to her will.
Hui Ying nudged Li Xue. “That’s… that’s Ms. Chen? The CEO of Zenith Corporation? The youngest CEO in the country? Xue… look at her!”
Li Xue couldn’t tear her eyes away. She saw not just wealth and status—but accomplishment, independence, freedom. Something inside her stirred.
“Do you… do you think I could ever be like that?” Li Xue murmured, voice trembling.
Hui Ying smiled softly. “Of course you could. But only if you want it enough to fight for it.”
Li Xue’s chest tightened. For the first time in a month, a spark of excitement, of determination, ignited inside her.

Later that evening, Li Xue sat on a quiet terrace overlooking the city, Hui Ying by her side, sipping tea.
“I can’t stop thinking about her,” Li Xue admitted. “The way she moves, the way everyone listens… I want that. Not the attention—but the strength. The power. The freedom.”
Hui Ying studied her friend, seeing the fire return to her eyes. “Then don’t just want it. Go get it. You have everything it takes, Xue.”
Li Xue clenched her fists, staring out at the twinkling skyline. “Hui Ying… I will be one of the most powerful CEOs in the whole damn country. And no one… no one will ever be able to shatter me like that again.”
Hui Ying smiled, eyes shining with pride. “That’s my Xue. Let’s start building your empire.”
And in that moment, Li Xue felt a weight lift from her chest. The heartbreak was still there, sharp and raw, but now it was fueling her. Every memory of Lei Feng, every shattered dream—it would become the fire that forged her.
“I’ll be unstoppable,” she whispered to herself. “Not because of anyone else, but because of me.”
The city stretched endlessly below, lights flickering like stars. For the first time in weeks, Li Xue felt alive.
And she knew this was only the beginning.
