chapter 10

after Liam left the quarters I decided to clean up a little bit and then head to his mom's room. I knock and peek in. I notice she's sleeping so I walk in and turn the tv on making sure the volumes low. I check my nose to see if the blessings stopped and it has, so I throw the ice into the garbage and climb into Carols bed and cuddle up to her, causing her to stir.

"oh lily."

" Sorry I woke you, aunt Carol. You can go back to sleep. I just came to cuddle with you."

Carol smiles as I lay my head against her and she kisses my head and lays her head against mine, drifting back off to sleep.

I listen to the sounds of all the machines in the room and carols oxygen tank. I've been coming in every day to read to her since I've gotten here and never really paid attention to all the machines keeping her going.

I decide to take a look at Carol and notice how much thinner and paler she's gotten. I sigh quietly knowing her end is nearing. even her voice is weak and hardly audible.

Carol opens her eyes and looks at me. Her once shining bright green eyes were now very dull. She had a haunting look to her.

" Would you like me to read to you, aunty? were almost done your favorite book." I grab her book and open it, showing her we only have probably about 50 pages left.

Carol smiles and nods, leaning her head against my shoulder. So I start reading the Danielle steele book, making sure my voice is loud enough that she can hear me.

Once I reach the last page, I close the book and look at her. "All done."

"Aunty?" I lightly shake her shoulder, but she doesn't move, so I quickly check her pulse. I don't feel one. panic starts to course through me, and tears immediately fall. "Oh, please, don't be dead." I grab my phone, barely able to hold it, and call Uncle Colin, who has been teaching guards tactics.

" Hey Lily Bean, what do you need." he said into the phone. I imagine he's smiling, which makes the tears fall a little harder.

"c....come! q..quickly, please!"

Colin immediately hangs up, so I call Liam while continuing to hold carols hand.

"Hey beautiful, I'm just in a meeting."

I can hear some men chattering and know I'm on speaker but don't care.

"L....Liam, you need to c...come home."

"Lily, what's wrong?" I can hear chairs move and worry etched throughout Liam's voice.

*I....I was reading the last couple of pages of your m... Mom's book to h...her. Liam, please don't make me say it.."

Liam immediately hangs up the phone just as Colin runs into the room and grabs Carol's shoulders.

"Carol? Come on hunny," he says, pulling her close, but her body is limp.

I put my hand over my mouth. "I...Im so s... sorry I was reading to h...her and I just t...thought she was listening. i didn't know, none of the machines beeped or warned me. "

Colin nods, tears escaping his eyes, and he holds his dead mate. "she didn't want the machine that monitored her vitals because she didn't want the constant loud noise that machine made, so she had the doctors take it.

Liam bursts through the door to see me sitting on the bed crying and his dad holding his mom's lifeless body, and he just slides to the floor, putting his head in his hands.

I crawl off the bed quickly and rush over to him, sitting on my knees on the floor and pulling him into me. He wraps his arms around my waist, burying his head into my shoulder, and starts crying.

Uncle Colin must've mind linked the doctors and nurses because shortly after, the room was filled with people, and Liam and I were kicked out into the hall. I make sure not to let him go and hold onto him tightly. Both of us just crying.

"I'm so sorry, Liam." I start rubbing his back in slow motion as he just continues to hold on to me tighter.

a few minutes later, Colin walks out of the room, his face swollen in agony and tears. He moves out of the way for the doctor to pull the stretcher with Carol wrapped in a cloth.

"We're sending her off tonight so she can be reunited with the moon goddess."

Liam and I both look at Colin and nod.

"Lily, go call your mother and father. Liam and I are going to go build the pyre." Colin leans against the wall and lets out a huge sigh a bunch of tears streaming down his face.

I nod and let go of Liam and try to stand, but he's holding on to me tightly.

" Son, let her go. We have work to do.

Liam nods and sighs, still crying and stands up, wiping his eyes.

I watch the boys leave the house sadly and pull my phone out and dial my father's phone number.

he answers fairly quickly. "Hey, my beautiful girl, we've missed you. How is everything?"

"D...daddy. c... Carol. she she died."

"Lily, take deep breaths. I need to get your mother OK."

"mhm." I listen to the background noise of him going to grab my mom and hear him tell her what I just said.

" Mom, I'm so sorry! She was your best friend."

"o...oh Lily. it's sad but she's not sick anymore and we're going to take the next little bit, being sad that she's gone, but we're going to remember all the good times we had with her and we have to remember that she's with the moon goddess dancing in a field of flowers."

" She's not sick anymore." I sit at the table quietly, trying to calm down.

"Liam and Colin are building the pyre, right?" My dad asks sadly.

"y... yeah uncle Colin said we're sending her off tonight."

"Lily, I am coming up in a few days, OK? and I will give you a big hug. Remember, she's in a better place."

" OK, dad."

Liam walks back in quietly.

"it's ready." he's no longer crying, but his face is all red and puffy. I nod. "Dad, I have to go. I love you all." I hang up and walk over to Liam, who takes my hand, and we walk out of our quarters and down the stairs out of the pack house. we make our way quietly to the pyre.

as we were walking, we could hear the cries of the members as they make their way down as well. They just lost their Luna. This pack is going to be so sad for so long. I hold Liam's hand tighter, and once we get to Liam's dad and the pyre, Colin hugs me.

"Lily, I hate to ask you to use your powers, but can you fill it with flowers?" She loved them." he says, tearing up again.

I nod quickly. "Of course."

I walk up to the pyre and lay a hand on the wood. Soon, I feel the wind bring a bunch of seeds and watch as the seeds grow to beautiful blooming flowers all around her. I then open my other hand so a bunch of flowers can grow in my hand, and I place the bouquet I made on top of her.

Once the pyre is just completely filled, I back up to Liam and Colin. "I will light it as well, Colin, when you're ready if youd like."

Liam wraps his arms around me while standing behind me and lays his head ontop of mine. I can feel his tears dripping on my shoulder.

Colin looks around and sees that everyone's here. He walks up to stand beside the pyre and looks at his pack. "Tonight, we lost my mate, and this packs Luna. Carol was beautiful and kind. She loved dancing and seeing all of the pack members smiling. She loved seeing people smile she never wanted to see anyone hurting. Don't be in despair. She is no longer sick and is going to be dancing with the moon goddess soon." Colin walks back over to us and nods at me.

I put a hand out. "Fire, take this Luna home to the goddess." As soon as the words stopped, the entire pyre lit up in flames.

Colin lets out a loud, painful howl, followed by Liam and the rest of the pack that has their wolves. I let my tears slide down my face, quietly trying my hardest to stay strong for Liam.

I feel Liam's tears drop on my shoulders, and I rub my thumbs over the back of his hand.

Colin drops to his knees crying, and his beta John, Bryan's father, rushes over to him and pats his back, tears silently flowing from his eyes as well.

" Let's go to the waterfall, I need to get out of here." Liam says with his voice cracking from crying.

"ok."

Liam guides me into the forest so he can get undressed. He hands me his clothes and changes to Blake quickly. I stare at Blake and can immediately tell he's even heartbroken. I walk up to him and put my forehead against his head, and rub his cheeks before climbing onto his back.

Once I'm securely sitting on his back, Blake takes off at a faster than normal pace. We quickly reach the waterfall. I quickly climb off his back and rub Blake's head, then place his clothes on the ground and walk towards the waterfall quietly. It's so beautiful here.

I hear Liam sit down behind me, so I turn towards him and sit down quietly. Liam is fidgeting with the grass in front of him. "She's really gone."

" Yes, I'm so sorry, Liam. I can't imagine how you are feeling." I let out a small sigh. "It's OK to not be ok, Liam, but I fully believe your mom is dancing up there with our goddess, and she will forever be with you and your father."

Liam lets a few tears fall to the ground. I lay down and look up at the clearing in the sky and all of the beautiful stars. I use my hand to rub Liam's back.

Liam lays down beside me and pulls me into his arms. "Can we sleep here tonight? I don't want to go back to the pack house."

"Anything you want." I continue to stare up into the sky through the clearing of trees, wondering if Carol is looking down from above.

Liam continues to cry silently, and I can feel his tears on my head going into my hair, but I stay quiet just letting him cry.

pretty soon, the both of us drift off to sleep, allowing our dreams to escape the reality of what happened.

A couple of days later-

I open my eyes and sit up quietly in case Liam is still asleep. When a hand touches my back, I jump and look down at Liam to see that he's awake. "Morning."

"Morning." Liam sits up. "I have to go to work today."

I nod quietly. "Are you sure?"

he nods. "Dad won't be in his right mind, so it's my job to take over when he can't."

" OK." Liam stands up and holds a hand out to help me up.

We've been sleeping by our waterfall quite often. It's quiet and relaxing there, just the two of us with the sound of nature. His father has been drinking every day and crying. He won't go into his bedroom and ends up sleeping on the ground outside of it.

The walk back to the pack house is silent since I don't know what to say to him. What could I say? He just lost his mother. I have no way to relate and have no idea how to help ease the pain of that loss, other than to just listen to Liam and be there for him and his father.

Once we get into the pack house, Liam turns to me. "Please check on my father?"

"Of course." I nod, giving him a reassuring smile.

Liam kisses my forehead and walks to his office, leaving me standing in the foyer of the house.

I look around. The atmosphere here feels off but a little lighter since the pack lost its Luna. She treated everyone in the pack with love and respect. I make my way up the stairs to the alpha quarters and walk in quietly. I look around the kitchen and don't see Colin, so I walk out and head towards the bedrooms. I quickly see Colin sitting against his bedroom door, sleeping with a bottle of whiskey in his hand.

Colin has never been much of a drinker. He and dad would have a double with ice on special occasions, but it wasn't to get intoxicated. With our metabolism, it would take a whole bottle, maybe even two, to get an adult werewolf drunk, and it wouldn't last long.

I walk over and take the bottle quietly, not wanting to disturb him, i use my powers to have wind bring me a blanket and lay it over him. I walk into the living room to see 3 more empty bottles. I pick them up and take them to the kitchen counter. I head upstairs to Mine and Liam's bedroom to take a shower and get dressed. After my shower is done, I decide to wear a long casual black and blue dress and leave my hair loose. I walk out of the room and head to the living room to sit down and think quietly.

I start to think about the mate bond and how strong it is. It's the other half of your soul and losing that, losing half of your soul is horrendous. Colin must feel so broken. It's been said that some wolves that lose their mates will actually kill themselves. I hope for Liam's sake. Colin doesn't do that.

Liam's birthday is tomorrow, and we won't be doing anything extravagant due to his mother dying. I decide to take my phone out and look up some new movies for us to watch together to take his mind off things. We both share a common interest in scary movies, but maybe a comedy after the scary movie.

"Hey Lily, how's Liam?"

I jumped, not realizing anyone had actually walked into the place and into the living room, but smile when I see the goofy-faced red head standing in the doorway of the living room.

" Oh, Bryan, you scared me! Liam said he had some business to take care of he's in his office."

Bryan walks over and sits down. "The pack is different without our Luna. Liam is turning 20, and his father is handing his title over. It should be uplifting here, but it's not. "

" She was a fantastic person. It's apparent by how many people loved her and the effects it's having."

Bryan nods and leans back against the couch. "We should go check on Liam."

I nod in agreement and stand up.

I finished my work pretty quickly and decided to stay in the peaceful quietness in my office. I lay my head in my hands and sigh.

There's a knock at the door, so I lift my head and grumble, a come in.

Misty walks in with barely anything on, and I sigh because I know she's here to cause trouble. I stand up quickly and walk around my desk, and lean against it. "What do you want?" I say coldly.

" Oh, Liam!" she walks over to me, pushing herself against me and wraps her arms around my neck. "I've been so sad and have missed you."

My first reaction is to remove her from me, but my body doesn't do what my mind wants it to do as my hands reach down and cup her ass. What the hell, Blake, what's happening?

I don't know how to get her off. he responds, growling, but the growl is in my head and doesn't come out.

Misty smirks and starts unbuttoning my shirt and kissing my chest. Get off of me! But it doesn't come out and is only repeated in my head. I feel her lips crash onto mine, and instead of pushing her away, my body responds by pulling her closer. f**k! GET OFF. and still nothing just screams inside my head. I hear the door open and our kiss breaks, but to my horror, it's Bryan and Lily. No, this isn't what it looks like.

" Get out! Don't you see he's with the love of his life!" Misty shouts.

Lily's face looks absolutely appalled, and I can see the heartbreak in her eyes. "l....Liam?"

it's not what you think. "What? would you like to join? a little threesome might be fun."

" What the f**k is wrong with you Liam, you hate this skank?" Bryan yells angrily.

" He loves me Bryan, you should behave like a good beta and take the trash away." misty says, moving away from me and pointing at lily.

I see tears threatening to fall from Lily's eyes. No, lily. Blake help. "Why don't you take Lily for a ride, Bryan?"

I can't change. For some reason, Liam, there's something wrong. Blake says angrily.

"how could you?" Lily whispers, her voice cracking. All I want to do is run to her and hold her but I'm stuck.

"because I never cared about you, I never loved you. You were easy." no! thats not true Lily I love you. I feel like I'm watching a bad movie right in front of me and I'm banging on the walls but I've lost all control of my body and voice.

Hearing that come from his lips completely shatters my heart and the tears fall. I feel Bryan stiffen behind me and could hear him growling.

" Now you're going to cry. wonderful. Your weak, get over it." Liam sneers, staring at me.

" What a baby!" misty grabs Liam's shoulder to bring his attention back to her. "Come on Liam, get rid of them so I can show you how much I've missed you."

Liam smirks and shrugs. "You heard her."

I let out a growl and walk over and grab misty by the hair and slam her head down into the desk, causing her nose to break.

" You bitch." Misty stands up and goes to slap me but I use air element to hold her fist in place and I punch her instead.

" Stop them Liam! This is sick!" Bryan yells as I continue to punch her. She gets a couple hits in causing my lip to burst open.

Liam shrugs. "The winner gets bent over my desk as a reward."

I use the wind to fling misty out of the window knowing it's not a large fall and she'll be fine.

" Well, I guess the baby wins." Liam says, laughing.

I grab my necklace that he bought and throw it at him. "It's over. Your a jerk!" I run out of his office and down the hall, but he follows and grabs my arm, causing me to turn and slap him across the face. "Get your hands off me!"

I look into his eyes, ones that once showed endless love and now they look cold and empty, I yank my arm from his grasp.

" Oh come on, don't act like such a baby. You'll get used to this once I'm your mate. I refuse to only have one p***y for the rest of my life. Yours is ok but theres so many out there."

I back away, tears flowing. "I hate you. If your my mate, I REJEECT you!"

A growl escapes Liam's lips and he punches me in the face a few times, and lunges, slamming us to the ground. I hit my head off the concrete floor and know that my head is bleeding, as i see blood drip to the floor. He stands up dragging me up from the floor, grabs me by my shoulders about to slam me into a wall, but a fist comes from behind me punching him, causing him to fly into the opposite wall. I look up to see Colin and run passed him up to the apartment crying, with blood coming from my mouth and head, I assume a black eye as well.

I run up to the room and throw my belongings into my suitcase. I'm going home. I walk out of the room and out of the alpha quarters. I see Colin pinning Liam against the wall and Liam calm not fighting, until he sees me. I hear growling and look away, heading for the entrance.

"Lily!" Bryan runs up to me and wraps an arm around my shoulder guiding me passed them. "Colin asked me to take you to the airport, he said you probably need to leave." He hands me a towel with ice inside of it for my head and lip. Not really sure where all I'm hurt.

I nod, tears still falling down my cheeks and pressed the ice against my mouth. The one person I thought could never hurt me. Could his mother dying cause this much change or was I just naive. I follow Bryan to the pack car and get in and lean my head against the window wincing from the pain.

Bryan climbs in and sits beside me and rubs my shoulder. "I promise we'll figure this out that's not Liam."

" Maybe it is, maybe his mom dying broke him, maybe this is a side he tried hiding. I never want to see him again, Bryan." I start crying, tears streaming down against the window as the car drives to the airport.

"I texted your dad to let him know your coming home."

I nod, not wanting to answer and just continue crying.

The drive to the airport is short and quiet. Bryan didn't know what to say to me as he was confused and lost as to what just transpired. I quickly get out of the car and thanked the driver.

"Lily wait." Bryan gets out and rushes towards me. "I'll fix this. I promise."

" No I don't want to see him again. ever!" I grab my suit case and look at him. "I love you Bryan you can call and visit anytime, but I want nothing to do with him." I give Bryan a hug wipe my eyes and walk into the airport and towards the private jet.

Home. haven't been there in awhile. life without Liam in it what could that possibly be like?
