Alora POV
Aiden and Austin have gone back to the office, their dad wanted them, and I'm hoping that it is because they have maybe found something connected to being attacked. They gave me a kiss and told me they would update me later. I'm not surprised they would know I'd want to stay with Donna while she heals.
I'm sure it is something important because their dad wouldn't pull them away unless it was, but whatever it is, I know they can handle it.
Sitting with my friend while she healed was hard, but I would always be here for them no matter how difficult it would be for me.
Donna's leg has started healing, which is a great sign. The hard part is hearing the groans of pain from her. Greyson is holding her hand while both Holly and I are sitting on the opposite side, taking it in turns wiping Donna's forehead with a cool cloth and holding her hand.
There isn't anything else we can do.
Caria has taken Isla and her grandparents to get something to eat, but they assured us it's working.
After hours of pain, Donna finally stirs. Her eyes squint open and Greyson is on his feet kissing her and telling her she's OK, within seconds of seeing her beautiful eyes, Holly ran out to get the Dr and I check her leg, it's still red but it's more like a sun burn than what it was.
I hold myself back while Greyson hugs her. She has her arms tightly around him also. He comforts her while she sobs, and I stand back, giving them some time.
I'm so happy that she is safe and finally healed, well, almost completely.
Holly comes back, followed by the Dr.
We happily hug each other with happy tears.
The Drs cough grabs the love birds attention, but as Greyson stands up, both Holly and I hug Donna, filled with the releif.
"We were so worried."
"How are you feeling?"
"Are you alright?"
"Are you still in pain?"
"Do you need a drink?" we reeled off, but she didn't really get a chance to reply, so she gave us a teary smile instead.
"Excuse me, Luna, may I?" the Dr asked, pointing at Donna, and I realise he's been waiting patiently to check her over.
"Of course," and we move aside.
'I'm so happy she's awake,' Veda says as relieved as I am.
Wolves in a pack have a special bond, but their connection goes to the next level with family, and that is what our friends are to us.
The Dr did his checks, and all seemed good, Donna's leg was only a tint of pink when he had finished, 'Great news, Donna has healed and is awake.' I link Austin and Aiden for a split second when I opened our link I felt a slither of dread from them but its soon gone and it changed to releif and happiness 'that's brilliant news, we will join you there shortly' Austin replies but I can't quite figure out the feeling I'm getting from them. 'No need, we are leaving Greyson and Donna to have some time together, we will come to the office, now we know she's safe, and help there, we really do need to find out who is behind this before anyone else gets hurt.' they both agree with a hint of reluctance, but I know they are working really hard and are no doubt frustrated.
I gave Donna the biggest hug before I left, telling her if they needed anything at all to let me know.
Today turned out so much better than I thought it would be possible, especially with how hurt Donna was, and it was purely and thankfully down to Isla and her lovely grandparents.
They have never met any of us before, but they still showed compassion for a stranger in need of help. I will forever be in their debt.
I can honestly say that Isla definitely got her caring, kind nature from them.
Walking to the office, I can't get rid of that dreaded feeling. The little slither of dread I felt from my mates seems to be settled in the pit of my stomach, silly I know because it's the unknown threat and its normal to feel this way but I hadn't felt it from Austin and Aiden before which hits differently.
Holly was so happy that she was talking fast to me and Gage, but I've not really been taking in what was said.
"Don't you think, Alora?" and I realise I've missed the actual question. "Huh?" But she doesn't point out that I'm not listening. She just repeats her question, "we need to find the person responsible," and Gage growls in agreement. "Yes, we do, and quickly," was my reply, and of everything that has happened recently, we are all in agreement that we need to find the person.
"NO, WE ARE NOT," I heard Aidens Alpha command as we entered the office, which was strange because it was only their parents and the former betas in the office. They would never command their parents unless it wasn't aimed at them.
"we're not doing what?" I ask, and my mates look shocked but soon mask their feelings.
"Sorry, we are just stressed. How's Donna?" Austin says, walking to me and wrapping his arms around me, kissing my head. "She is doing amazing." I hug him back.
"We are going to see Donna now she's awake if you need us, link," Caria said, not looking at us at all, but she is pissed off and I try to go after her and Carrie but Austins arms tighten slightly. "I've missed you." he kissed my head again before taking in my scent. His wolf must be on edge.
"Is your mum OK?" I need to know what has happened, but the room is silent. "What is happening?" I ask again, separating myself from Austin because I need to think straight.
What in the goddess is happening.
"We are just tired, love," Aiden replies, but I don't miss the look shared between Chris and Lou. "We will go yo our mates and see how Donna is, while you catch up with what we have found," Chris says, giving my shoulder a small gentle squeeze as he walks past me and they both leave.
"What is it? What has happened?" I ask again with a little more force so they know I'm not playing.
I see both of my mates' eyes glazed over, and they look nervous.
It dawns on me then that they have probably found another note. Maybe they don't know how to tell me, it must be that because what else could it be.
"Is it a note? if it is, they are nothing." But as soon as the words leave my mouth, I realise it definitely isn't that, so what is it? but before I can question it further, all the men in the room are looking at me waiting for an explanation, but I want answers too.
Holly has her head down and refuses to look at anyone. I see Gage look at her with suspicion but doesn't question her.
"What notes?" Austin asks first with a frown of confusion. "They are nothing. That's why I've not mentioned them." but I see they are not convinced. "What notes, Alora?" Aiden asks, and I really don't want to do this now.
"We have important things to be doing than talking about insignificant notes. If it wasn't the notes, then what were you talking about? What are you not telling me?" I try to get the conversation back to the important issues, but I can see they are like a dog with a bone.
"This is important, now what notes?" Aiden says, but I shake my head. "You really want to talk about this than the issues at hand?" I ask incredulous that this is what they want to talk about, but they both nod their heads in agreement.
"Fine, I'll be back in a minute." I mutter in disbelief and leave the office before they can reply.
I return to them after I've collected the stack of notes I've hidden in our bedroom.
I honestly think the notes are stupid immature rants and nothing serious, but I also know they won't give up until they see them. I'm sure they will think the same as me, though, so it's easier to get them out of the way to move on to more important things.
I walk into Holly, looking upset, and the 3 men silent.
I look at her, and she gives me a small smile, which doesn't quite reach her eyes.
"And just so you know, both Holly and Donna were sworn to secrecy." I state giving all 3 the stink eye. "She has a duty as the beta female to protect her Luna," Gage says, full of disappointment, but his words fuel my anger, 'don't hold back' Veda growled as fuming as me "and what makes you think she hasn't?" I growl as I stop beside Holly, but her mate doesn't say a word at first, but neither did I, I wait for him to answer, and he does but reluctantly. "Holly has the duty of not only protecting you but also reporting to our Alphas if there has been an issue, especially if it's targeted at you," he spoke confidently but kept his eyes down.
"Well, that's a crock of s**t. Not only is Holly my friend, but she is a fierce warrior who stands beside me in any situation, if it was up to her she would be in front of me and would give her life for me and I would never doubt that but I would give my life for her also. She is my beta, and not just so she can tittattle back to my mates. How dare any of you doubt her. She is loyal, and I don't appreciate any of you saying any different." I ranted at them, but only Gage shrank back. My stubborn mates stood stock, still refusing to see that they had done any wrong. "SHE IS THE BETA FEMALE AND SHE SHOULD HAVE TOLD US ABOUT THE NOTES AS SOON AS THEY STARTED TO APPEAR." Aiden shouted, and Holly shrank back also, while Austin nodded in agreement.
"SO WHAT YOU BOTH ARE SAYING IS THAT I'M ONLY THE LUNA BY APPEARANCES?" I shout back, fuming at them, but my words make them frown "No of course not," Aiden lowered his voice and took a step towards me, but I stepped back.
"Yes, that is what you mean. you want me to be obedient and not make decisions, but that isn't me, and you know it. I love you both, but I will not be spied on and made to feel like I can't even have friends to rely on because they need to give you reports.. come on, Holly, let's leave the big men to do manly jobs. " I roll my eyes and throw the notes at them, take Hollys hand, and walk out with a very loud slam of the door.
"Assholes".
