Entering the Capital
Chapter one entering the capital Lily POV Running, running, running. f**k when will they give up. The forest was becoming denser by the minute, my lungs were starting burn, I can still hear them behind us. I hear Jax starting slow behind me. Have we passed the border already, how did I not notice? I need to refocus. I turn and see Jax, a deep breath leaving him, causing his shoulders to fall and the tension leave them. The idea of being in shifter territory, relaxing him and his feline. A smile dances across his lips, "We made it Lil, finally." I couldn't help but mirror his expression, "We did, lead the way. It's been a while since I've been here. We can go at a slower pace, they won't risk following us across the border." Jax turned and began to walk, my mind was absently calm, I couldn't place the feeling I was having. It was nagging at me. I was still having a hard time believing, that Jax had convinced me to come to shifter territory. We avoid nearly all claimed territory for a reason, but he still had managed to talk me into coming here. Overall there were 5 major territories and serval realms, which were claimed and run by their species. The Vampires had the land claimed closest to the South, the Humans had the land by the coast towards the East, the Dragons had the North and the mountain ranges, the witches had the West lands, known for its forests, and finally the shifters, were in the middle. The wolves were the dominant shifter species, they welcomed all other species of shifters into the territory. And that's why we are here, the wolves are the most open minded, they will listen to us, we hope anyway. I was admiring the beauty of the forest around me, the way the trees were slightly moving in the breeze almost like they were welcoming us to the area. I willed my magic back in, how did I lose control? s**t this was a bad idea, "Lil, Lil, Lily. s**t are you even there?" My thoughts are cut off by Jax, his face is so close, I can see his little freckles across his nose. His brown eyes staring into mine, "Lily -" I cut him off, "yes I'm here, sorry." His blonde eyebrows furrowed, "I could suddenly sense you, your energy was everywhere." I was starting the shake a little, had I released that much power, crap we needed to move. I looked up to him, "I don't know what happened, I was just walking and then, well. s**t. We need to get moving." He stood back to his full height of 6ft 2, towering over me, at 5ft 2 I had to be one of the shortest supernaturals around. Goddess I hated it. "You're sure you are fine? this isn't like you. You are the most controlled person I know." I looked up to him, "I'm fine, I promise, Now let's get moving before a patrol arrives." Jax looks me up and down, finally he seems satisfied, "okay, we aren't too far from the Capital, maybe another 3 or so hours on foot." He turns and starts to walk again, looking over his shoulder to check on me, every few minutes. After an hour I can't' take it anymore, "Jax, that's it!" He stops in abruptly, turning for attack. I motion for him to lean down, he leans in towards me, "I'm not a child, I am okay " I emphasize my words, as I raise my hand and hit him in the back of the head. His face is full of shock, then slowly he starts to laugh, "Well you must be okay, if you can still hit me like that." I watch as his mouth turned upwards, and his laughter continued as he t urned around and continued towards the Capital. A smile creeped across my lips, as he marched forward. My mind wandered back to my slip up, how could I lose control that easily, It was like my magic was calling out to something, seeking something out. Our trek was filled with silence, my mind trying to work out the unnaturalness of the calm inside me. Jax was enjoying being home, his face was relaxed, his brown eyes sparkling, almost looking like golden honey in the sunlight. Jax turned to me, "We're here." I stepped next to him and looked down upon the city, the Capital. It was stunning to see, the towers covered in vines, the walls well-worn but looked impenetrable. You could see the patrols, in their uniforms looking proud to serve their home.
