First Date

Ashton I was nervous as sh*t today was my first date with Alexi and high stakes were riding on this. Our relationship was already on thin ice as it was and if, for any reason, this date didn't go perfectly, it would probably end in disaster. I admitted to myself that no matter how I felt about witches (which was still very negative), a part of me craved Alexi deeply, and it wasn't just my wolf. Today, we met with all the high-ranking pack members, including Alexi and Eric, to discuss strategy and try to figure out what the vampire king was after. I reached the meeting room and found Jake, Lucas, and Eric already waiting there, along with a few top warriors. The meeting was taking place in one of our conference rooms, which had a stage and projector for demonstrations. It was set up like a normal press conference room, really, but each chair had a desk that could be pushed to the side of the chair if necessary. I walked up to the projector and set it up for the slides I prepared while people found their seats. I was discreetly searching for Alexi. I wondered why she wasn't here with Eric. So far, I had only seen them together, which kind of irked me but still. The meeting was supposed to officially start in five minutes. I checked my watch and scanned the room again. Still nothing. I was big on punctuality, and I couldn't very well wait for her to start the meeting. I frowned. My eyes connected with Eric's and I raised my eyebrows questioningly. He shrugged his shoulders and looked toward the door. I followed his eyes to see the door open, but it was only one of our newest trackers in training. I sighed and got started with the meeting. I would stop by her room after maybe she wasn't feeling well. The thought made my frown deepen. Maybe she changed her mind about our date and was trying to avoid me. Alexi I overslept. I'd never slept in a bed so comfortable before and found it so hard to wake up this morning, but now it was eleven o'clock and the meeting was supposed to start at eight. I was so incredibly late, I facepalmed myself and flew out of bed. I didn't have time to change out of my pajamas, so I just threw on some sweats and a sweater and ran for it. I stopped in the middle of the hallway when I realized I had no idea where I was going. I spotted the same maid I ran into yesterday on the stairs. I noticed that she seemed quite young, maybe my age. Well, not my age, because I was three hundred, but around eighteen to early twenties, maybe. "Excuse me" I called out. "Oh, Luna, good morning" she smiled. She seemed a bit shocked to see me standing there. I mean I was supposed to be in a very important meeting, so understandable. "How do I get to the room the meeting's being held in?" I asked. She smiled and walked me to the elevator. The elevator stopped on the third floor. "Just go all the way down the hall, it's the last door on your left," she said, pointing down the hallway. "Thank you so much," I said, before I sprinted down the hall and busted into the room right in the middle of Ashton pointing at the board and explaining something. Everyone paused and turned their heads to stare at me. It was at that moment I realized my hair probably resembled a bird's nest and that I was not wearing any shoes. I felt my face heat up and made eye contact with Ashton, who pressed his lips together in a tight line and raised his eyebrows at me. "Sorry, as you were" I said, and made my way to sit between Eric and Jake. When I sat down, I could hear Eric stifling a laugh. "Way to make an entrance," he whispered. "Shut up". I turned to Jake, "What did I miss?" I asked. He let out an exasperated breath, "just about everything we're pretty much wrapping up right now," he said. Oh great, I was so embarrassed, my first ever pack meeting and I missed the whole thing. I would have to have Jake or Eric give me the run-down later. "Well, that's it for today, if there are no questions, and we're all in agreement, then you're all dismissed," said Ashton. Everyone began gathering their things, and, standing up, I tried to follow Jake when Ashton called me over. "Alexi, a moment please," my face blanched. I looked to Eric and Jake for help, but they hurried out of the room, traitors!! I walked up to the podium where he leaned against a desk with his hands clasped together in his lap. I knew I was in trouble, but I couldn't get over how good he looked. Once I was standing in front of him, I quickly trained my eyes on his shoes. He cleared his throat, forcing me to look at him in the eyes. He fixed me with a stern glare. "Listen Alexi, I don't tolerate tardiness, mate or not." He said, making me feel like a child being scolded. "I'm sorry I overslept," I said sheepishly. That was a lame excuse. "You missed the entire meeting," his face was hard and unamused. I stared at him silently, not knowing what to say. He sighed, running his hand through his hair before breaking into a smile and looking me up and down. "You look ridiculous" he laughed, his eyes landing on my bare toes. I wiggled them, feeling my face heat up again. He handed me a tiny packet of papers. I raised my eyebrows. "They're the notes from the meeting," he said, nodding his head at the papers. I looked over them. He had handwritten everything they discussed. I looked up at him feeling emotional for some reason. I didn't expect him to do something like this for me. My emotions must have been reflecting on my face, because he pursed his lips and said, "Geez, am I that big of a jerk they're just rundowns of the meeting." "You're not a jerk," I laugh, "just hard to predict sometimes." We stand there for a moment, unsure of what to say to each other in awkward silence. When Ashton clears his throat. "So this date, is it still happening or..." he trails off the awkward blush creeping back into his cheeks. He was so weird one minute he was cold and rude. The next he was awkward and shy. I giggled. "Yes, the date's still happening, what time are we leaving?" I asked. "Well, I was planning on us leaving right after the meeting," he trailed off, looking me up and down. It was my turn to blush. "Okay, give me thirty minutes to get ready, then we can go" I said, rushing out of the room. I paused in the doorway and turned to look at him. "So what should I wear? Is there going to be a lot of walking or". He chuckled and grabbed his things before answering, "You can wear whatever you want, we're just going to go sightseeing, and we're taking the car, so". He walked out of the room and headed towards the elevator. I trailed after him as he pushed the button to my floor. I looked up at him, suddenly nervous to be in such an enclosed space. He felt me staring and looked down at me. I quickly looked away. I heard him chuckle and felt my face heat. "Why so shy all of a sudden what happened to that fire you had at dinner yesterday?" he laughed. Hmph, why was he such a joker? All of a sudden, what happened to being the a**hole he was yesterday? I rolled my eyes. We made it to my floor, and he followed me out. I looked up at him quizzically, wasn't his room on the top floor. We reached my room, and he stopped outside my door. "You can't come in," I said, "I have to change." He blushed, "I was just going to wait for you here. You don't know your way around that well yet, and we need to head straight to the garage." "Okay, I'll be quick" I said, closing the door. I had no idea what i was going to wear. I didn't really pack anything cute. I sighed, I checked the closet and sighed with relief. It looked like someone had stocked up on clothes in my size. I picked out a short puffy sundress with blue and pink flowers and slipped on some white sneakers. I quickly pulled my hair into two pigtails and lightly applied some blush, mascara, and lipgloss. I hurried out of the room and ran right into Ashton. He steadied me. "Why were you right in front of the door?" I said, rubbing my nose. "I said I would wait right here," he said. I rolled my eyes, "Come on, let's go," he said, taking my hand, my stomach did a flip at the small contact. He led me downstairs to a huge spacious garage with cars. I didn't even know the name of ugh. I really did hate these things. He opened the door for me and I got in. We made our way into the middle of what looked like a city. There were stores and restaurants everywhere. "This is the plaza," he said as we drove through the city. He pulled into a parking spot that had a sign that said Alpha reserved in front of a restaurant. "I figured we could eat first since you probably didn't eat breakfast" I looked up at him, shocked he was giving me whiplash mean and rude one minute, then shy and kind the next. "It's just lunch" he said getting out of the car. I tried to open my door, but he locked it and stared at me through the window on his side. I frowned. He walked to my side and unlocked the door and opened it for me. I huffed. "Was that really necessary?" "Yes" was all he said before taking my hand again and walking inside the restaurant. The hostess at the front saw us walk up and smiled brightly before noticing our hands holding and frowned. "Alpha, what brings you here?" she asked. "Food" he said simply. I laughed, and the hostess glared at me. "Right this way Alpha", she led us to a table in the middle of the restaurant. I began to take a seat when Ashton stopped me. "Something more private please," it sounded like he was asking, but something about his tone made you know he wasn't. "Why?" she asked. His eyes widened, and he stared down at her like she had two heads. "Did you just question me?" he asked. "No sir, right this way" she quickly corrected, but I could tell she was seething that he wanted to be in a private place with me. She led us to a back table and Ashton quickly pulled out my chair for me. My face heated. He was being such a gentleman. The hostess glared at me again. I looked at her name tag. It said Martha. She wrote down our drinks and left still seething. "She likes you, you know." I said to Ashton as he pursued his menu. He hummed. "What do you want to eat?" he asked. I sighed,"I don't know what are you getting?" I asked. "The steak and potatoes" he said, putting his menu aside. Steak and potatoes for lunch wasn't that more of a dinner meal. I raised my eyebrows and he shrugged. "I'll get the Alfredo pasta" I said. He nodded, a waitress came over and he gave her our orders. An awkward silence overcame us. "So what should we talk about?" he asked. I had an idea, but it was probably too heavy for a first date. I swallowed and took a deep breath. "Why don't you tell me why you hate witches so much?" I said. His eyes widened and he gulped.
