ALESSANDRA
What was going on?
I took a step back as I stared at myself. My body was in an awkward position on the floor. My neck was bent at an angle it wasn't supposed to be in, my arms were in different directions and my leg was folded in a manner that told me it was broken.
I swallowed and placed my hand on my chest. That was when I realized I could not feel my heartbeat. I pushed my arms out, and with wide eyes, I saw how translucent I was. I could see through my arms.
“What… How?” I looked up when Luke and Carly rushed down the stairs.
They stopped before the version of me that was laying on the floor. My eyes were still wide from shock as I tried to understand what was happening.
“Luke?” I called softly as I waved my hand in front of his face.
Luke didn't blink. I waved my hand in front of Carly's face and she barely reacted. Rather, their attention was on the other me that was on the floor.
“Is she…” Carly's voice was soft and low in a whisper.
Luke knelt on the floor and placed his fingers against my neck. I flinched when he rose to his feet abruptly. His eyes were wide and his expression was crestfallen. Luke stared at Carly who was staring back with curiosity in her eyes.
“Is she alive?” She asked and grabbed his hands. “Luke, say something!”
“She's… Carly… Alessandra is dead.”
No! That cannot be true! I can't be dead. It wasn't possible.
“No,” I said. “I'm not dead! I'm right here.”
I stood before them and waved my hands frantically.
“Guys, I'm right here. I'm not dead.” I turned around to look at my body.
Dread and fear filled me from head to toe as I looked at myself. My eyes were open and staring blankly in a direction, my mouth hung open and my skin tone was dropping to a pale complexion.
“No. I can't be dead.” I placed a hand over my mouth. “No… Please, no. I can't die.”
“We have to do something,” Carly said.
“Alessandra is dead,” Luke said in a distant voice.
I turned around to look at them. They killed me. They pushed me down the stairs and killed me. My best friend and fiancé killed me.
“Snap out of it, Luke,” Carly said, shaking him by the shoulders. “This is a serious matter. We need to do something about her body right now or everything we planned and worked for will all go down the drain. I don't want to rot in jail, Luke. So, start thinking!”
I watched as Luke snapped out of his thinking state and looked around. I stood firm, shaking and feeling sadness as I waited to see what they would do.
Luke went up the stairs and some minutes later, he returned with a huge cardboard box. In silence, they exchanged a look and in shock, I watched as they lifted my body and placed it in the box.
I covered my mouth and watched as they lifted the box to the door.
“I think she drove here,” Carly said. “We need to take her car and dump her body somewhere at the outskirts of town. We need to do it now and fast!”
What did I ever do to deserve such a friend and partner? I never hurt them or betrayed them yet they did this to me? Why me?

It was almost like I couldn't be too far away from my body because the next thing I knew, I found myself following them.
Now, they were parked in the middle of nowhere. There was nothing but tall trees, thick darkness and crickets. I watched from the side of the road as they got out of my car and went to the back where they lifted the box out of the trunk.
I watched in horror as they moved the box to the side of the road. I slowly walked my way over to where they were, watching their every move. I was still stunned to the bone, to my core at what they were doing.
“I can't believe that Alessandra is dead,” Luke said, standing over my makeshift coffin. “It's… what have we done, Carly?”
I could hear the tremor in his voice and I could see the fear evident on his body. I looked away from him to Carly who had her arms wrapped around her body while staring at the box. Despite the dark shadows casted by the night and the trees, I could see how pale she had become.
“It was all an accident. Remember that. But right now, we need to dump her body somewhere in those bushes and hope for an animal to eat her,” Carly said with venom dripping in her voice.
“You're right,” Luke said and pulled the flaps of the box open. “It's all your fault, Alessandra. It's all your fault that this is happening.”
It was all my fault? It was my fault that I was laying cold in that card board box?
“If only you didn't have to be so f*****g nosey, now look at you,” he continued to say with anger laced in his voice.
“Well, at least she's gone now. One issue is solved.” Carly leaned over the box and smiled at my unresponsive body. “We were always looking for ways to let you know and kick you out of our lives but you made it so easy for us… Rest in peace, best friend.”
Shaken, hurt and feeling even more betrayed, I watched as they moved the box into the woods and dumped my body. After they were done, they walked out of the woods and drove off in my car.
Lightning flashed and a heavy rain began to fall. I wrapped my arms around my body and fell to my knees.
“Why?” I whispered. “Why me? Why did I have to die?!” I screamed into the night air.
I tilted my head back and stared at the dark sky, looking to the heavens.
“Please… I don't deserve this. I don't deserve what has happened to me.” I laced my fingers together. “Have mercy on me. If I am to pass into the afterlife, at least let me not go to hell for any sin I may have committed. Please, have mercy on me.”
Suddenly, my head started to spin, my vision began to blur and darkness flickered around me. Fear surrounded me as I knew it was time for me to go.
Before I could speak, darkness enveloped my senses.
