Chapter 40

XAVIER

Its been 10 days...

10 days is feeling much longer than tje 6 years she was gone.

I haven't had a single breakthrough during these last few days.

Zain and Hayaan have been spending a lot of time with me and I couldn't be happier, I jist don't know what to say when they ask me about Jia Xia...

Hayaan is very happy and carefree, while Zain is sweet and kindhearted, quite and very wise for his age.

Zain has the ability to see through every single word a person says and he thinks before he speaks.

"Daddy, if you and mommy got divorced before we were born, does that mean mommy lied to you about us, or is it maybe you who didn't want mommy and us...?"

Zain was busy drawing as he spoke.

I knew I had to speak about it sooner or later but I needed to choose my words carefully.

" Well, the thing is... Daddy made some mistakes that mommy didn't like so she asked for a divorce, but I don't know if she knew she was expecting you boys at that time and she found out after the divorce or if she knew but didn't want to tell me.. Maybe when mommy gets back you should ask her.. Okay? "

Hayaan suddenly came from the kitchen.

" Daddy, I don't think mommy wants us anymore, I don't think she's coming back... I was so naughty when she was around.. I... "

Hearing Hayaan speak like this broke my heart, if only he was able to understand the situation, he would feel that way.

I got up and picked him up, Zain came and stood by me.

" Listen, I want both of you to understand something... "

I sat him down and sat in front of them.

"Mommy didn't leave because she wanted to, and she will most definitely come back, just think of this as a small holiday she has gone on... No matter where she is, I'm sure she can't wait to come back to us... She loves us more than anything okay..."

They both nodding and smiling gave me a hug.

I wished my words would come true soon, because heaven knows I can't imagine losing her for real.

Knowing she was somewhere in the world under the same sky as me, happy and safe was much easier to accept, but not knowing whether she was alive or not made my heart ace.

I have to find her.

The next day I met my father and the detective.

He found alot of things about her family and just like my father for told, the truth about her birth was also in the documents.

I was looking through something, when I noticed the doctors notes implied to more than one child during the birth of Mr Ying's ex girlfriend birth.

"Um, detective... Whats this about.?"

He took the letter of evaluation.

"O this... Yes.. Well it seems Mrs Zhao had given birth to twin girls, but only one was registered and the other as you might know by now was given to tje Ying family..."

What?

Jia Xia has a twin.

He keeps reading.

"According to this they aren't identical twins... And the names wasn't written here maybe she didn't choose the names before the birth so theu didn't write it here... But I am sure I if I can find the attending doctor I could maybe find both mother and daughter... I just... "

I was nervous.

" You just what? "

He sighed.

" I don't think he is still in the country or even alive... "

Whats he saying.

Another dead end.

I was getting frustrated all over again.

There's so much here but nothing to lead me to Jia Xia.

My father got up and sat next to me.

" Xavier, you need to remain positive, you have the boys to think about... We are working together and I promise, I won't stop until we have an answer... Okay."

He squeezed my leg.

I took a deep breath and got up than left.

I was driving than I had the idea to go to meet my father in law.

He needs to tell me everything he knows, I was sure he knows more than he was saying.

I parked my car and got off.

The boys had just returned from school.

The saw me and ran down the driveway and into my waiting arms.

I really can't think about a life before them.

Its like we were never apart.

We went inside.

My mother in law was surviving lunch.

"Aaa, Xavier, come have lunch, I made Hayaan's favorite... Lasagna..."

I suddenly remembered the first time Jia Xia made me lasagna...

I didn't want her to know but that night after she had gone to sleep I snuck into the kitchen and emptied the whole tray of lasagna she had made for me, it was my favorite and she made it so well.

I smiled thinking about all the small things she did for me.

I really miss her.

I sat and had lunch with the boys than I went out to meet my father in law.

He was reading a newspaper.

"Mr Ying, I need to speak to you in private, its about Jia Xia and well... Mrs Zhao..."

His head snapped towards me.

He was pale.

He got up and showed me to the study.

"Sit... Want to have a drink?"

I sat and refused the drink.

"What do you want to tell me...?"

He seems cold.

"Mr Ying... I know Jia Xia isn't Mrs Yings biological child... And I don't want to create any problems, but I need to ask you a few questions... Please.."

Mr Ying signed.

"Okay..."

"Did you know Mrs Zhao had twins?"

He was shocked, it was visible he never knew.

"Okay so I can tell by your surprise you didn't know, than tell me... Did you ever find her after she disappeared.."

He took a big sip of whiskey.

"Xavier, your right, I don't know she had twins... But... Wait how do you know... Have you been investigating my family affairs?"

He sounds annoyed.

"Yes.. I have and it's because I need to find Jia Xia..."

He took a deep breath.

"Okay, I don't know she had twins as she only showed me Jia Xia and I stopped seeing her once i found out my wife was expecting... I know what you must think but honestly I had alot going on back than and well she was the only person who could make me forget... I loved my wife but she was my addiction... Anyway... Last I heard about her she was somewhere in Dubai... I never thought she had another child of mine so I decided it was best to finally let go... "

I knew the feeling.

I felt the same way about Bella.

When I met Jia Xia my heart wavered and I knew deep down she was just my addiction... Nothing more.. Like sleeping with her was a bad habit, when all the lies came out and only after loosing Jia Xia was I finally understood the truth.

"Xavier, whatever you find please don't let my wife know... I don't want to lose her.. Please"

The door suddenly opened.

It was my mother in law.

My father in law turned pale.

"Xavier... Dig as deep as you can and find my daughter...

She might not be my own but she's still mine.."

My mother in law was calm.

Maybe she knew all along.

My father in law was now sobbing he wanted to speak but my mother in law came over and sat next to him.

" Honey, you are a wonderful friend and father and lover and husband, and I will never leave you... I know everything about what happened back than, I just didn't want to see you like this so I never said anything..."

He looked at her with love.

I could see he loved her dearly and regardless of everything she also loved him.

I wanted Jia Xia to look at me like that.

" May Zhao came to me a few years after Jia Xia was born, she came to apologize and thank me for never giving up on you, she told me everything and she asked me to never tell you because she wanted to have at least one part of you without actually having you, so when she told me about Ling I was upset but I felt heart broken for her as well... I mean... She lost everything... So I let her go... "

Ling...

What's the odds my fling had the same name and Surname.

I suddenly started putting things together.

She reminded me som much of Jia Xia.

He smile, her eyes her voice every time we were together I felt as if she was Jia Xia.

My mind became a mess.

Could she possibly be Jia Xia 's twin?

My mother in law must have noticed my silence.

"Xavier... Is there something on your mind...?"

I took a deep breath.

"No... I.. I need to leave, I have a meeting... But please if you remember anything else let me know..."

I said and walked out.

I got in my car and called Ling.

"Xavier... Long time... Finally remembered me?"

"where are you... I need to see you now.."

She paused.

"Im at my place.. Come over..."

I disconnected the call and drove as fast as possible.

When I reached her place my heart was racing.

I need to be careful.

If she is really her sister maybe there's more going on than i realize.

I got out and walked up to her apartment.

I knocked and she opened the door.

As if I was looking at a different person she stood in front of me her smile I once found sedative was now one that made me feel anger.

I walked in and sat on the sofa.

She came and sat on my lap.

Her smell her body everything was now revolting.

I push her of slowly.

"I need you to be honest with me..."

She seems calm.

"About what exactly?"

I had to ask.

I didn't want to waste any more time.

"Are you Ling Zhao... Daughter of May Zhao and... Max Ying...?"

She turned pale.

I was right.

She got up.

I grabbed her hand.

"Answer me... Ling.. Is Jia Xia your twin sister?"

She was now out of breath.

She pulled her hand away but I grabbed her waist, she landed on my lap.

"Ling, please tell me it's all a misunderstanding, tell me your not involved in any of this... Tell me its a coincidence.. Just tell me.."

She started crying.

"Xavier.. I wish I could but... Its all true... I'm so sorry.. Please."

I pushed her of me.

The anger was boiling in my chest.

"Xavier.. Please.. Let me explain..."

I looked at her.

"Okay... Try and f*****g explain what the f**k is really going on... What tje f**k were you thinking...!"

She was crying more.

This scene made me think of Jia Xia.

Why the hell was the universe playing such awful tricks on me.

"Xavier, my mother found out that Jia Xia was married to a man who was also seeing another woman, she wanted me to just keep an eye on her, and I was doing that at first but when she left you I watched as you looked like your soul was gone... I don't know why but I felt sorry towards you... Than Bella's lies was revealed and you guys broke up... But I suddenly found myself wanting to be your woman... I realized I had fallen in love with you... So... I couldn't let you suffer, then when mu company sent me to the Maldives and we met I knew it was destiny.. We we're meant to be together... I had to have you... "

I couldn't believe my ears.

Everything was a lie and a set up.

Just like Bella another woman was taking me for a ride and as stupid as I was I fell from it...

" Than... Why not tell me the truth when I told you about Jia Xia, why watch as I went crazy trying to forget her... Why... Ling... I trusted you... Who are you really.. Do I deserve being made a fool of by all the women around me... You say you love me yet you're the reason I am dieing right now... Don't you understand... What "

I was still talking when she came up to me and hugged me.

" Xavier please... Forgive me, I will make you forget her please... Just give me a chance.. "

Her words was to much for me.

I pushed her to the ground.

" Forget her... Who the f**k gives you the right to want to make me forget her?"

I was out of my mind.

" I will never, not in this life or the next forget her... You better start giving me answers... You definitely know where she is... So you better tell me... "

I was standing over her holding hwr shoulder as I violently shook her.

"Xavier please.. Just..."

I let her go.

"okay you won't speak, I will call tje police..."

She jumped to her feet and grabbed my phone.

"No... Please... Okay I will tell you but... Xavier... Its already to late... Her heart transplant was done yesterday and the doctors aren't hopeful of her recovery... Xavier she is already dead..."

All the air left my lungs.

What???

She can't be...

I can't give up...

I need to make things right.

She was still crying as she spoke.

" Xavier, my mother took her away to get her the best care in the world, but she was already to far gone... The heart she received was healthy but it was like she had already left her body behind... She stopped fighting the day before the surgery... I watched as she literally began shaking violently than suddenly she was quite... The monitor stopped beeping and I watched as the doctor rushed in and out and finally she was taking to tje hospital... But after the surgery, although it was successful, her brain wasn't showing any signs of life... I... I... I am truly sorry... "

I listen to her telling me that she was not only aware of everything but she was actually there at Jia Xia"'s last moments...

I couldn't take it anymore.

My heart constricted and my lungs was void of air.

I finally had nothing left...
