Chapter 1: A Chance Encounter
Dr. Sophia Thompson rushed using the aisle at the hospital corridor, her white coat was dancing behind her back. She had just finished 12-hour shift in the emergency room and was looking for a place were she could eat her food comfortably. Immediately she turned, entering a particular corner along the aisle, she collided with a tall, handsome stranger.
"Oh, so sorry!" Sophia exclaimed, as she stumbled backward.
The stranger quickly grasped her arms, steadying her. "It's okay, nothing is quite wrong; just a hit" he said with a smiling face.
Sophia's eyes met with his, she couldn't understand the immediate eye contact and immediately turned her eyebole with a smile in her face.
"I'm really sorry again," Sophia repeated, trying to compose herself.
The stranger chuckled. "No need to apologise. I'm the one who should be saying the sorry not you cause I wasn't watching were I was going".
Sophia smiled, feeling a little more at ease. "It's okay. We can just call it a mutual collision."
The stranger laughed. "I like that. Mutual collision. I'm Alexander Gray, by the way."
Sophia's eyes widened slightly as she took in the name. Alexander Gray, the billionaire philanthropist? She had read about him in the news for some time now but never thought she could meet him in person.
"I'm Dr. Sophia Thompson". She said with a low tune that seems casual.
Alexander's eyes blinked in a smiling way and replies " I'm Alexander Gray nice meeting you"
Sophia's heart was pounding for Alexander because of the long eye contact they had during their introduction. Feeling a bit overwhelmed she immediately changed the position of her eye.
Trying to sound nonchalant, Sophia said: "I'll be on my way"
Alexander nodded. "Yeah, I should probably get going too. It was nice running into you, Dr. Thompson."
Sophia smiled. "Likewise, Mr. Gray."
As they parted ways, Sophia felt a deep sense of attraction. She quickly pushed the feeling aside, telling herself that she was being too redeculous. After all, Alexander Gray was a billionaire, and she was just a simple ordinary doctor.
But as she walked away, Sophia couldn't loose the feeling that her life was going to change instantly.
Some few days later, Sophia couldn't stop thinking about Alexander. She kept thinking about him more and more to the extent of neglecting important things like work, handling important projects and some other logistics. Her feelings for him was far beyond normal.
That brief meeting she encountered was unbelievable because she couldn't believe how that brief meeting has affected her; A chance encounter.
Sophia's friends noticed her sudden change in action sometimes feeling lost in thoughts and not answering quickly when asked a question.
Her best friend, Rachael asked during a lunch with her: " what's wrong".
Sophie unsure of what to reply said:" I don't know... I just think I'm lost in thoughts".
Rachel raised her eyes. "Off? What do you mean?"
Sophia sighed. "I met someone the other day. Alexander Gray."
Rachel's eyes widened. "The billionaire?"
Sophia nodded. "Yeah. We collided in the hospital corridor."
Rachel grinned mischievously. "And?"
Sophia blushed. "And nothing. We just talked for a while then we departed"
Rachael looked at her. "But?"
Sophia as hesitated as she was, wasn't unsure of what to say to her friend. " I don't know, I think there's something special between us" Sophia said.
Rachel's expression softened. "Maybe there was."
More days passed by and Sophia is still thinking about Alexander more and more. Thinking if she'll ever see that face again, or when she'll give him a phone call. She kept bothering herself thinking all along and finally she received an unexpected phone call from an unknown source.
"Sophia, it's Alexander Gray."
Sophia's heart almost melted. Alexander. Hi."
"Not interrupting..," Alexander said, his voice low and smooth.
Sophia smiled, feeling a warm temperature in her chest. "No, you're not interrupting anything."
Alexander chuckled. "Good. I was wondering you'll meet with me for coffee"
Sophia's heart moved another beat. "Coffee?"
Alexander laughed. "Yes, coffee. I promise I won't bite."
Sophia smiled, feeling a sense of excitement. "Okay, coffee sounds great."
As they made plans to meet, Sophia couldn't help but to anticipate on what would unfold.
Would their spark of attraction ignite into something more?
Or light without burning up, leaving her with nothing but a memory of their chance encounter?
Sophia didn't know, but she was really and very eager to find out.
