Chapter 3

No one missed the time today like yesterday. Jonas and Ross came along and Elliott joined him later. Peter came here as a last person. His house is comparatively a bit far away than others and totally on the other side of the town. He can easily go to school directly rather than coming here as both are at the same distance. So, when he meets them here and then go to school, basically he crosses twice the path. But he likes it as he can enjoy some extra moments with his fellow buddies.

Ross yelled after seeing Peter at the last, “Hey man, did she forgot his shoe last night? Like your Cinderella?”

Elliott says, “Did the shoe fit in there properly?”

Jonas gently smiles and Peter makes a face of irritation. Peter says, “Don’t know when you dumbos will get over it.”

Ross says, “Not this year I guess.”

Elliott says, “Only year? Peter darling you’re gonna get through a lot. Just wait and watch.”

Jonas says, “Ok, enough of these now. May we focus on the real matter?”

Ross says, “And what is that matter?”

Jonas placed a slap behind his head and said, “Now you remember? Or you need some more medicines?”

Ross says, “Ok, ok I got this. I thought there’s something more on that girl. What’s her name again?”

Peter says, “Alicia. Now will anyone give me some space to talk about that jerk named Paul?”

Jonas says, “Now this is the real matter. Go on your highness. We are eagerly waiting to hear you out.”

Peter says, “Okay. Today we aren’t gonna wait for him outside. He’s very sincere about hiding his back. So we’ll cover those back seats first. No back seat, No cover for him. All right?”

Elliott says, “Now that’s logical. Let’s move your butts lads.”

Ross says, “Tell us how we will follow him after the school is over.”

Peter says, “About that. As soon as the bell will ring, Ross and Jonas will come out of the classroom and take position at the road. Try to move as soon as possible then, just manage that this nerd doesn’t go before you. You’ll wait at the road for him to notice which way he goes. I and Elliott will come after the boy. Don’t misjudge anything boys. If you need more clearance ask now.”

Jonas says, “Why are we following him actually? What information do we need?”

Elliott says, “We will see where he lives, his health condition matters on this. Despite being injured he also seems a bit awkward and suspicious. We’ll get a lot of answers from this trip.”

Peter says, “Exactly. Besides it will be like an adventure too. So we’ll have fun anyways.”

Talking about such all things they set up their positions in the back row. They haven’t sat together, so Mr. Arnold will not get any chance to complain. They are gossiping among themselves. Some creepy stares are always on them. They think about what are they up to now, who is going to be harassed in the next minute. But this hang has made them wonder again by keeping peace like the other day.

But obviously something is cooking in their heads and everyone was nowhere to be close to guess what it is. The clock is ticking. They are expecting him in any minute. Normal chit chats are on. Suddenly Ross said, “If he doesn’t come?”

Elliott says, “Shut the s**t up, will ya’? Please be positive at least for a while. He’s gonna come and we’re gonna follow him today.”

Peter says, “I also want that but looks like sir Paul is not gonna come today. Although there’s still some hope.”

Jonas says, “Let’s have patience and observe comrades.”

The bell rings. The time to attend the class has come. Everyone is rushing for the room and gathering inside. Sharp and aware eyes are on the queue of the entrance. Students are passing by one by one. No sight are able to satisfy those eyes. A bit hopelessness and disturbance is all over their minds. There is no sign of their ally Paul Ericson today. Their plans are nothing but waste.

Peter says, “Don’t worry mates. Whenever he’ll come we’ll make our plan work. Don’t get upset now. Let’s focus on what to do next.”

Elliott says, “Is it possible that he came and found no seat available at the back and left?”

Peter says, “Don’t overthink dude. It’s okay. We’ll have him next day, if not then the other day. He has to come in our net one day.”

Jonas says, “You better be right man.”

Suddenly Mr. Arnold hops into the room with a very good mood. Mr. Arnold says, “Hello my dear cupcakes! How are you doing sweeties?”

The students reply in a mixture of “Fine”, “It’s okay” and “Doing great” which sound like a crowd almost.

Arnold says, “Ok kids I got it. By the way I have a very interesting news for you and I’m gonna announce it at the end of the class. Don’t forget to remind me about it dear.”

Everyone starts to whisper what is all about this news and eventually they get excited. Mr. Arnold says, “Silent now. Boys in the back, stop talking please. Let me take the attendance first.” He starts to call up by names. At the very end, “Paul? Are you here? Paul Ericson? That new boy, is he absent today?”

One from the front row stands up and says, “Yes sir, I didn’t see him today.”

Mr. Arnold says, “How sincere are his parents. Got admitted 4 days earlier and has missed 2 classes already. That’s why they don’t progress much and our society, country everything lags behind…” Mr. Arnold likes to talk about these serious issues. He somehow connects all the issues with national, economic and social aspects. But deep inside the g**g knows that there is no outcome of these talks, no one thinks about these here. Even Mr. Arnold himself will forget what he is thinking now and the situation will not change a bit. Insincerity is all over this town.

This is the reason this school runs like a neglected one. Students don’t have much headache about these issues. They are enjoying their teacher’s stories now. The more he talks, the less they need to study today. So students also pump him up to go for these talks sometimes. Mr. Arnold finishes his valuable speech and gets everyone back to study. After 15 minutes of math solving the bell rings and Mr. Arnold tells everyone to bring their homework the next day.

Suddenly Peter stands up and says, “Sir, are you forgetting something?”

Mr. Arnold says, “What would I forget?”

Peter says, “You told us to make you remember that there is an interesting news for us. You didn’t tell us what it is.”

Mr. Arnold says, “Oh my goodness! How could I forget this!? Thank you Peter for remembering it.”

Peter smiles and takes his seat.

Mr. Arnold says, “The thing is our school needs some renovation. You can see a lot of desks are damaged, whiteboards are old now and many other stuffs need to be replaced. So your school will be closed for the next three days, excluded Sunday, for these works.”

Students literally scream out of a little joy. These are the best news they can get. The g**g is happy too except for the fact that they have to wait four more days until they can get that boy.

Mr. Arnold says, “Silence now children. I hope you’ll use this free time in innovative works and stay safe. Our office will still be open however. Goodbye kids.”

“Goodbye, sir!” A combined sound is out, how generally students say it. The remaining 3 periods pass by as usual. Nothing special to mention about. Just English teacher ruins everyone’s mood by giving tons of homework. Everyone leaves the school for four days yelling at the English teacher in their minds. It is pretty normal for the students who thought they could spend some days playing video games, soccer and so on.

But The Scorpish g**g is obviously most disappointed than any other students there. It is a natural instinct of these boys that when they fell interested in something, they literally get obsessed with it. They are heading back to home in a low mind. They Stop at under that oak tree and have a short conversation.

Elliott says, “What to do now?”

Peter says, “This school has a serious problem with timing. Every time when there’s something important, they must close it down. Like seriously!!”

Jonas says, “It’s really freaking me out. Whatever we need to get those new desks at the back at any cost.”

Elliott says, “Obviously! Who else has the gut to take those from us?”

Ross says, “Don’t worry about these. We’ll manage it on the very first day. Chill out guys.”

Peter says, “Yeah, I got it. What to do about this s**t Paul? It’s devastating really. We’d get some interested event like after ages!”

Ross says, (Clears throat) “I know why Peter is being so impatient and disturbed.” He starts laughing after saying this and blinks an eye. Elliott and Jonas also got the joke and start to pinch Peter.

Peter says, “Wait, what? What happened?”

Ross says, “Alicia-a-a-a-a-a” he said it like a melody and Peter is just burning in front of them.

Peter says, “Oh, God! A brand new topic now. I hope this gets over sooner.”

Jonas says, “Not so fast dear. You have enough time to burn more.”

Peter says, “Ok, enough now. What are your plans for this afternoon and weekend?”

Elliott says, “I have nothing special in my mind. If you guys plan something, I’ll be participating. Jonas you wanna say something bud?”

Jonas says, “Let’s go home, take rest and meet somewhere. We’ll discuss there about all the things.”

Ross says, “I though we’ll chill out freely. No waking up early, late night TV shows, hanging out a lot. But English teacher really scattered a bomb. It’s too much for 3 days. “

English teacher is the toughest one in the school. Almost everyone stays aware in front of him, there is no scope for a single mistake. Or his tricks and punishments are killers. This is the reason why everyone is worried. If anyone is seen without homework, he has given warning to throw each and every one at the lake nearby.

Elliott says, “Feeling very sad for you folks. I have nothing to worry. I have a video game and that nerd can do anything to play an hour.” He says this while smiling and hitting his palm with the other fist.

Ross says, “Oh, stop it now. We are dying here and there Mr. comes with his great idea.”

Elliott says, “Very sad. Don’t be jealous bro.”

Ross says, “Leave it. Say where and how we will meet?”

Peter says, “Come to my place at 4. Is it ok?”

Jonas says, “As you say boss. I’ll be there.”

Elliott says, “Ok let’s meet at this place first and then go there.”

This oak tree is just beside block D which is a junction of three roads. One of them goes to the school and the other two go to respectively Peter’s house and the houses of the other three. So they decide there to meet at this point and then go to Peter’s together.

Peter says, “Hey Jonas, bring your UNO cards along. And don’t be late ok?”

Ross says, “Look who’s talkin’ again hehe.”

Peter says, “Oh God! Not again.”

Elliott says, “We’re getting late idiots. Let’s get going. I have some works to do.”

Peter says, “Ok, sayonara!”

Ross says, “Hasta la vista amigos.”

They head for their homes. It is like this when you are in a bad mood, you just need a ten minutes’ conversation with your friends and that works like magic. You get lost in somewhere where you feel happiness, you feel peace. As they said, they all gather up under the oak tree and then reaches at Peter’s home. It’s a two storey white duplex building. The doorbell rings after Jonas pressed it. Peter runs towards the door and opens it.

Suddenly there’s a call on the landline…
