Chapter 14

2189 Words
Peter is stuck between two mixed feelings. The day spent well, he achieves a lot throughout the day. He still qualifies for the final day. But he was not totally satisfied about the fact that someone else is taking his throne. He used to be the best sprinter and his fame was all over the school. Even teachers knew him well because of this talent. But at the same time he feels proud for Paul. There are at least a little contribution of them behind Paul’s success, they helped with the suit. So an inner part is also saying Peter that he is satisfied to see an underdog rise like this, with their help. With all these thoughts Peter finally has a sound sleep. On the contrary, Ross and Elliott are pretty much amazed at Paul’s performance. They used to think participating is enough for that guy. But his running left them speechless. They had no idea how much strength a labourer boy might have. Their bodies have a different level of fitness. They are not pumped up with fastfoods. However they are also hopeful that he is going to have a blast in the final day. Jonas still does not know what happened yesterday. There is not much chance of him to come the next day. But deep inside Jonas was very curious to know how Paul performs. Maybe the cause is he lent his suits the other day. So, he decides to go with them and watch it all by himself and also hear the tales of the first day. Next day at the oak office, Peter comes first. A red rope hanging on a branch attracts his eyes at first. There is no one inside. He does not feel any necessity to hop in. He was just thinking about what Paul is going to do today. Today he is going to participate in a longer race, more energy and stamina are needed as well as strong willpower to finish the track. He lately realizes that Paul is a boy who works a lot of physical labor. And for a boy like him it must be easier than others. When his mind was running all these thoughts inside, he sees a large, fat shadow in front of him. It is Jonas. He was not expecting Jonas to come today. Peter says, “Whassup big guy?” Jonas says, “What’s up Pete?” Peter says, “Why didn’t you come yesterday?” Jonas says, “Why would I? Sports are not for me bruh. Rather I enjoyed much better time in front of the TV.” Peter says, “Dude! Yesterday it was a much watching day! You really missed the whole craze out there.” Jonas says, “What are you talking about man? What special happened there?” Peter says, “Man! You won’t believe me what I saw, Ross saw, Elliott saw. That was simply phenomenal dude!” Jonas says, “Man, can you stop making it longer and tell me what it is?” Peter says, “Look Ross and Elliott are coming along. You’ll hear from them.” Ross says, ”Look who it is! The landlord who does not want to move his a*s an inch because it might harm his cholesterol.” Jonas says, “Huh boy? Lame joke. You see these hands? You won’t even able to carry one of these. And if one of these lands on your shoulder, you’re gonna feel very romantic underneath it dear.” Jonas holds his hands up like flags. Ross never got any dangerous threat like this one before so kind of sings small like a balloon. Peter comes on the rescue by changing their topic. Peter says, “Ross, tell Jonas how good was Paul yesterday.” Ross says, “Oh my God! Paul! What should I tell about him now! Bro, he was just like a bullet yesterday. Competing with him was more like running in a horse race, he was the only horse there. Teacher blows his whistle and then boom! He’s already playing with the red line, twisted around his body. He was super-fast, man!” Jonas says, “Hey, wait! Don’t tell me that he has beaten Peter this year!” Elliott says, “Unfortunately yes!” Jonas says, “No way! How did he do that! That was really extraordinary man! Ah I really think I’ve missed a very important day. Now I regret. Hey has he used all the three turns or is there anything left for today?” Elliott says, “The 400 meters long run remains for today. He said he’s gonna participate in that one as his last turn.” Jonas says, “It sounds really good that I’ve helped that boy by lending my suits. What about you guys? Didn’t ya’ make any place there?” Elliott says, “Peter gets 2nd in the 100 meters and 6th in the 200 meters. Ross gets 7th in the 200 meters, I don’t know how but he did. And he came 2nd in the long jumps too.” Jonas says, “It was a great for all of you guys then. That’s very good news. Elliott didn’t bother to sweat, did he?” Peter says, “Not at all! Nothing new, we’re used to this now. But better than you, Jonas. At least he bothered to walk all the way to school. Not like someone who sits on the sofa all daylong.” Jonas says, “Enough insults for me today, boys. Calm down. I’m going with you today, chill out. I know you all miss me.” Elliott says, “Our drama queen is back I guess. Let’s not wait any longer. Paul must be there already.” Peter says, “Yeah, we better move. And one more thing…” Then Peter introduces him with the ropes system of their oak office. Ross also gives an example to him. Jonas likes and praises the system quite much. And after all these they hurry for the school. While walking Ross and Elliott bet about a thing related to Paul. Ross said that Paul would be sitting on the exact place, having the same bun. And Elliott disagreed and said that he will not be doing the same today. And then a challenge is born on the spot. Peter and Jonas are not saying anything, they prefer to enjoy this battle from a backseat. After entering the compound they all seek for that bench and it does not disappoint anyone except Elliott. He just lost the bet and now he has to buy Ross any food of his preference. Paul is sitting just like the other two days, no change in positions, places for food items. They also notice that Paul has followed Mr. Arnold’s advice to go to his classroom in proper uniform and change it before the event starts. His old, tight uniform and mudded shoes are seen by them from a distance. After seeing them Paul rushes in front of them and hurriedly hugs Jonas a couple of times. He could not stop saying thank you, thanks and words like those in all the ways he can. He was very grateful for what Jonas did. Jonas says, “Ok, man! That’s enough. I’m glad that you’ve earned very good positions in the runs. What’s your plan for today?” Paul says, “I don’t know actually. They said it’s a 400 meters race. I just plan to run. Nothing else.” Peter says, “Hey bud! This is a very long race. You must have plans to save your stamina.” Paul says, “What should I do to win it?” Elliott says, “Wait for the ground to get prepared. Then tell him. It’ll be easier.” Peter says, “That’s better. Let’s go to the class now.” Paul says, “As you say.” All of them are sitting in the classroom and having chit chats among them. A lot of people are rolling their eyes now on Paul, once in a while. His deeds have already earned him a place of respect in their eyes. As a newbie he was quite impressive to all of them. Besides his attitude has been very soft and calm, not got many chances to contribute in anything. Moreover, he was able to beat Peter who has been ruling for years. So he was quite a hero of their class for today. Mr. Arnold enters the classroom and directly approaches to Paul. Mr. Arnold says, "Looks like you heard me yesterday my boy about the uniform." Paul cannot understand what to reply on this. He gently says, "Yes sir." Mr. Arnold says, "You were excellent my boy on the field. Bravo!." Paul gives a soft smile and replies, "Thank you, sir!" Mr. Arnold does not delay anymore and finishes the attendance session like yesterday and lets everyone out of the class. Peter and Ross do not need to change as their all turns have been finished up. They wait outside the room as Paul changes and gets prepared for the biggest race. After getting out of the building they touch their step on the ground. In the ground a lot of children, mostly the juniors, are sitting one by one and they are making a huge circle. From a drone camera it would look like a circle in the green. Ross says, "There's the track, Paul." Paul says, "What I need to do here?" Peter says, "That's easy. Look at the right side, near the office." All of them draw their attention to there and see that some teachers along with the sports teacher and two peons are standing with the red line. Peter says, "The race is gonna start from here. You need to complete the whole circle twice. That's all." Paul says, "Oh my God! This circle is huge!" Ross says, "That's why you need plans my friend." Paul says, "What do I have to do?" Peter says, "Just follow the strategies. Don't run too fast and make yourself exhausted during the first round. Try to maintain an average position among all. Not too fast, not too slow. Then when you’ll pass the half of the second round, i mean when you’ve completed three quarters, you’ll have to boost as much as you can. Don’t worry if people remain ahead of you the whole race. Eventually they'll lose all the stamina and you got to take that chance to boost up until that line." Ross says, "And stay closer to the circle. The more far you go, more distance you’ll have to cover." Paul says, "I'll remember that. What's the first event of the day?" Elliott says, "I think your event is coming up. They won't hold the students for long." And the declaration comes on mike for the participants of 400 meters to report at the starting line. Hearing this five of them gathere near the starting line. They are trying to boost up Paul mentally. He is already confident after performing extremely well yesterday. So he is on the peak of his confidence level. The order comes to stand on the line and Paul leaves them. “All the best” They all shout. Paul stands alongside 23 more competitors. On the first whistle they bend their waist and touch their feet. On the second whistle they move a bit up and as soon as the third one is blown everyone start running like their life depend on it. They start running too fast in the beginning and Paul forgets the plan for once. “Plans, Paul, PLANS!!” Ross shouts from the side and Paul remembers it and reduces his pace. He starts to keep himself at the middle of the runners. A lot of them are ahead of him and some are behind him. After finishing the first round a few players have already given up. And Paul is intelligently saving energy and stamina. They are going forward. And at the point when he has crossed the half of the final round, he boosts up his legs like an engine and all of a sudden he starts to overtake everyone. Those who were ahead from the beginning to beat Paul but they could not. They do not have any energy or stamina left in them. And in the end Paul finds that red line around his body, before anyone else could touch it. He wins it again. This was the final round of 400 meters and Paul secures a prize for the prize giving ceremony. The Scorpish g**g is running towards him to congratulate.
