(Niko POV)
I waited anxiously for Luca to come back from her room. I wafted to see her so bad but they refused every time I tried. I was growing angrier each time they tried to act like they were my parents. Those ass holes didn’t want me and I definitely didn’t need another.
I knew deep down they worried about me getting close to her and her leaving us again. It had killed me when she ran. Each time we failed to find her a part of my soul died a little more. I had never wanted anything as bad as I wanted Aubrette.
I had watched her since the day we had found her. Brecc and Luca had you r each other first, and then they had found me. Together we had found Aubrette. After finding out who her parents where I feared something would happen to her. Everyday I spent a couple hours watching her. I had even went as far as scenting the property were she lived.
The spell I had cast on her property would keep her parents from finding it but any predators that came around would be stupid to touch something that was mine. They knew who I was and that I wouldn’t think twice about killing them.
I had spent more years than I could count living on the streets after running away from my parents. More like decades. I had fought for my life from the first night. I could still remember it like it was yesterday, even though it had almost been a century ago.
************FlashBack************
100 Years Earlier
It felt like I had been traveling through the f*****g forest for ages. I was tired and desperately hungry. I hadn’t fed in so long that my body now fed off my magic and my magic wasn’t something I was willing to lose.
My ears perked up as the sound of civilization hit them and my heart thrummed faster in my chest. I swallowed as the all too familiar burn rose up in my throat. I pushed myself forward using the last bit of energy I had.
Though, being a demon fae had its advantages, the way we fed wasn’t one of them. We were able to live off of human food to an extent but our body need blood to survive. It's how we grew strong. How our magic strengthened. And being able to take their souls afterward was an added bonus.
We were a lot like vampires in a sense, but were vampires got their fill on blood, we got our on the essence of their life we took from drinking their blood. Vampires didn’t have to take a life to feed. Demon fae did. Without their essence our bodies would burn through our strength and then our magic.
I knew I was approaching a city when the city horns and smells of restaurants flooded my sense. My heart raced faster as the scent of humans overwhelmed me. The city seemed to be full of them. I licked my lips as I grew closer.
My body felt as if it was moving on its own as I ducked beneath tree limbs and climbed through thick brush that was blocking my path. Finally, I had emerged from the forest into the edge of the city.
I surveyed my surroundings as I tried to get my baring’s. I tall gray billboard caught my attention. “Welcome to Alkai City. Home of the white fae” I groaned. You have got to be f*****g kidding me.
I had heard of Alkai City. My parents and anyone I had known had avoided this place at all cost. The King and Queen of the white fae ran the city and strict laws were in place preventing any dark fae from excessive magic and goddess forbid we killed anyone. How did they expect us to feed. On the fake s**t they served here.
Though I could survive on the abomination they called “Ichor” I wouldn’t be able to regain my full strength on it. Ichor is a blood substitute created by white fae using their magic to keep the dark paranormal from killing. We were able to survive on it but it didn’t give us any of the properties we need to strengthen our magic. Which is why I had never tasted it myself, and didn’t intend to.
I looked around at Alkai city. Everything was so clean and white. The sky scrapers that sat along the skyline were silver and seemed to climbed almost to the heavens. I could see the white palace that towered over the city sitting back among the mountains on the outskirts of the west side.
I had stumbled into a small suburb and was surrounded by two story white houses invaded in white picket fences. Flowers were scattered about their yards and their pets yipped when people would pass on the sidewalks. White far strolled along the sidewalks pushing their young in carriages and carrying them on their shoulders. They were all dressed in white, cream, or light gray with an occasional pop of color. Most of their hair was blond or close to it and everything about them screamed high class. I had to get out of here.
I knew from the gossip I had heard of the place that the dragon king lived to the north which is were most dark paranormal's were said to live. I knew that’s were I would need to go. As soon as I stepped into the sidewalk headed for the city and out of this blasphemous suburb, I felt everyone’s eyes on me. They cowered away from me and avoided me when I would pass them.
I looked down at the clothes I was wearing. I knew my red hair didn’t help me blend in, but my leather jacket and blue jeans with my black combat boots made me stick out like a sore thumb. Though I noticed the young women seemed to be very interested in me. It seems the good girls wanted this bad boy. I had no problem showing them what it felt like to be f****d by a real man. I noticed a blonde checking me out as I made my way past her and I lifted the side of my mouth grinning slightly at her. Her scent immediately perfumed tye air around me as her arousal flooded her tiny little panties. I chuckled and continued on my way making a mental note to return to this neighborhood.
It had taken me a couple hours but I had finally made it to the north side of the city. My throat burned like fire after enduring the scent of the white fae for so long. Just one of them would give me what it would take ten humans to. But until I became more familiar with the place, I couldn’t risk it.
I crossed the heavily guarded bridge that led to the north side of Alkai ciry, stopping along my way at one of the guard stations who would check me in. Their job was to track any dark paranormal’s who crossed into the city. Everyone who came and went were required to stop and be scanned.
I held out my wrist for the guard to scan and he eyed me curiously. “I don’t believe I’ve seen you before. You from around here?” I shook my head waiting for him to finish his job and quickly growing impatient.
He scanned my wrist and I waited for the gate to open. “Ryker City? You’re a long way from home. What brings you here?” he questioned.
“I needed a change of scenery!” I answered. He eyed me to see it I was lying. When he was finally my satisfied the gate in front of me lifted.
Entering the north side of Alkai city I felt at home. Even the sky seemed darker on this side. Food trucks littered the streets and so did the homeless. Clubs were on every corner and the smell I death perfumed the air. I licked my lips but knew I would need to wait until dark to feed so I began searching for somewhere to stay the night.
********************************************
“Hey you!” Tingles spread across my back as Luca wrapped his large arms around me and pulled me to his hard chest snapping me out of my memory.
“Hey, how did it go?” I asked growing excited.
“It went fine Niko. She has settled in and it doesn’t appear that she has tried to escape. Something about her feels different though. I have never felt an aura like hers before.” Luca rested his chin on my shoulder.
Luca could read auras and he was an empath. Not only could he feel what others felt, he could manipulate their emotions. Though, ad his mates he never used his gifts on us unless we were in desperate need, or f*****g.
“Did she like the iPad? Did you tell her I sent it?” I bombarded him with questions.
He blew out a breath and turned me to face him. “No Niko! I didn’t tell her you sent it. For now she doesn’t need to know how desperate you are for her acceptance.”
I pulled away from him growling loudly. “f**k you, Luca.” I spat at him and grabbed my jacket.
“Where are you going?” Luca called after me.
“Anywhere your not.” I yelled back over my shoulder.
I made my way outside to the training grounds where the warriors were practicing orb magic. I watched as various orbs of different colors flew from their hands into the dummies across the field. The dummies were charred and chunks were gone from their rubber torsos. I rolled my eyes knowing I would have to retrieve more soon.
I watched the warriors train for sometime until I froze when the hair stood up on the back oft my neck. Tingles spread over my shoulders. I could feel her pull to me immediately. I turned slowly and craned my neck back looking up to the top floor windows of the palace. Without much effort I found her window.
I felt my heart rate quicken when our eyes locked. She was the most beautiful being I had ever seen in my life. Her long curly red hair blew in the wind. Her eyes were wide and an icy blue. Though I suspected that wasn’t their only color. I could feel her curiousness about me. And the lust that hummed through her body, the same way mine did for her.
I needed her. I needed to go to her. Not taking my eyes away from her I stood from the bench and concentrated. My body began lifting into the air and I watched as she took in a deep breath through her luscious full lips. Her long lashes fluttered as I grew nearer and her heart began to race.
Her hand snaked out between the bars and reach toward me. I extended my hand and felt a zap as our fingertips touched. I wanted to touch her face, and explore her body. My hand grew closer to her as her fingertips grazed up my arm sending intense tingles through my body.
I had never felt the bond the way I was feeling it now. It was stronger and more intense than it had ever been with Brecclan and Luca. My hand reach the bar and my fingertips grazed her perfect pink cheeks...
But, suddenly I was ripped back and down toward the ground. I knew before I even saw him that Brecclan had discovered me. Anger coursed through my body as I watched her become further and further away.
They were going to stop this nonsense. I was a grown man and capable of making my own decisions. I didn’t care how strong Brecc was. Nor did I care how dangerous he was. I could be just as dangerous, and for them to keep me away from her they would have to fight me. I was done being treated like a child.
