Flame of two kingdoms

All my life I've only wanted one thing, a desire so strong I fear it'll only consume me and I'll get burned on the way, I'm playing with fire and if you look at it properly I guess you'd see that it is fire, Real fire. "Selena!!!!" someone calls my name from somewhere within the castle walls and by the sound of it, they are in quite a rush. I lift my head from under the comfort of my warm blanket and listen out again, I don't hear anything for a while and that makes me relax, I drop my head back on the pillow and attempt to cover my head once again when I hear the same voice calling my name, I immediately push the blanket aside and jump down planning on the one thousand ways I get to kill whoever it is that's interrupting my beauty sleep. "Do you think she's still asleep, but she has a very important meeting she has to attend today!, Oh God I can't believe she's doing this today of all days ". A voice from outside complains. Immediately I hear the voice for the second time time I recognize it as bianca my maid and I start thinking hard about the meeting she was speaking so seriously about, as far as I know I never do the important stuff that's what my brother is for, he's mama and papa's favorite child and is always in the spotlight handling everything serious so it's either bianca has no idea of what she's saying or she's absolutely gone bonkers. I try to sleep once more and this time I hear a very loud bang on my room door. Urggghhhh I can't continue to pretend to still be sleeping so I just push the covers off of my body and grab my robe from beside the bed, tie it and march angrily to the doors, I grab the latch, unhook it and pull the door wide open to come face to face with my maid standing sheepishly at the door. " You have less than a minute to tell me why you're interrupting my beauty sleep so early this morning bianca and I'm not joking, I'm so tired", she said yawning and going back into the room to lie down back on her bed. " I'm sorry princess but I thought you already knew, king Damien would be here in a couple of hours to discuss some security issues with your father the king and brother and I thought you would like to use the chance to be in his company for a few minutes you know " bianca completes her little talk with a knowing smirk and a shrug of her shoulders towards Selena's direction. Everyone knows of the huge crush Selena had on the king, it was no secret to the lands as she had been very open in her intentions to Wed and create a life with him, well everyone knows about the crush except the person who is being crushed on. It's either that or he just choses to pretend like he doesn't know about it. The princess has suffered a lot of heartbreak because of this reason in the past as king Damien still in his state of denial flaunted his flings in her face and she was forced to endure standing in the sidelines watching him as he had the time of his life with other women and the worst part was she had no one to stand up and fight for her among her family. Her parents saw her as a liability, one who would never do anything great so they saw no need in showering her with all the love and affection, they just put her in the care of the maids and servants with orders for her to be trained to represent the image of the picture perfect daughter and princess when the need arises, they never showered her with any form of love or made her feel needed in anyway. Times like this made her wish she was never born cause how could she exist in a world where no one wanted her and there was no one to fight for her. Truth is she couldn't ever remember a day when she had ever felt like she belonged here, the only person her father king Morse cared about apart from himself was her brother, his sole heir and crown prince Devin. Devin was only older than her by ten years and according to the stories she heard he was a very sickly child when he was a baby, this put more pressure on her mother the queen to try go have more kids even when she wasn't ready mentally for it. That resulted in the birth of Selena and even though it wasn't her fault she kept on being punished for it increasingly till this day which left her wondering why she was even born in the first place. fortunately for the king and his wife and unfortunately for selena, Devin started getting better soon after the birth of Selena which made Selena not important anymore to the royal family thus she was thrusted into the care of her maids and ignored till she felt like she didn't exist. while her father focused more on politics and running the kingdom along with her older brother, her mother the queen was a whole different case entirely cause she liked to pretend she wasn't Selena's mother, the only thing she deemed worthy of her time was adorning herself in expensive dresses, jewelry and all the finery money could buy and hosting extravagant parties to display their wealth, she never paid any attention to her daughter or try to get to know her, in her eyes she had just one child, dear prince Devin. Selena though was finally going to be useful soon to them cause she had started getting suitors who were interested in asking for hand in marriage but her father wanted someone with more if not a higher influence than theirs so that he could benefit and have more power in his reach, so Selena already knew he was going to delay and delay accepting any proposals till he weighed the benefits he would get from each man compared to the other and he wouldn't consider if any of the men were even good enough in the first place to marry his daughter, all he was after was the influence. "Sorry to burst your little bubble bianca but I'm not going anywhere ". She answered sleepily, still laying on the bed. Bianca couldn't believe her ears "what do you mean by you aren't going, it's king Damien girllllll !!". She dragged the last part as if that would convince me more than everything else she's already said. "I know it's king Damien bianca and that's the more reason I won't be going, come on why do I have to embarrass myself more than I already have huhh !!, it's not worth it anymore, I've been after this guy for years, doing things that I felt like would make me more attractive to him and how did that turn out for me, he has been humiliating me more and more without a care in the world for my feelings" she stood up and started getting ready for the day. In as much as bianca was trying to see reason with selena she knew one thing for sure, Selena was only safe with king Damien, he might be a flirt when it comes to his relationship with women but heaven knows that only he could give Selena the kind of care, love and attention she needed, Selena won't be safe for long in the hands of her the king cause he was already on the Search for a suitor for her and bianca could bet her life that he wasn't putting his daughter's interest first and foremost, often times she had wondered how much of a wack relationship the whole family shared, cause everyone could see that they didn't care for anyone or anything else apart from their self, Selena's father the king couldn't give two hats about his daughter's welfare, they all treated her as a liability, and didn't want anything to do with her, her mother didn't care about anything other than looking good and enjoying all the pleasures that came with the crown, her older brother loved pretending that she didn't even exist in the first place. The king only ever wanted sons, strong sons who would run the kingdom to glory and due to a twist in fate he ended up having only one son and later a daughter Selena. "Selena that's not true, I think he's finally begun to notice you, I mean look at the last time you both met, I think he was even giving you the googly eyes". bianca tried to explain to her friend. "yeah right, giving me the googly eyes, he didn't even know I was there, I mean he barely said two words to me the whole time we stood there ". she left the closet and started making her way to the bathroom. " But Selena.......". "no no butss...." "but but...."bianca still kept on trying but Selena wasn't interested as she shut the bathroom door. "Hmmmmmmm, what do I do now, if only you''ll understand why I'm doing this, I only want the best for you Selena you're like a sister to me and I wouldn't want you to get hurt or see you heartbroken, nevertheless I'm going to keep on trying till I see you safe and that means you being with Damien, he's the only one who can protect you". bianca thought aloud to herself still staring at the shut bathroom door.
