“Hey, I heard you guys were moving away, maybe I can cop a feelsy” Lawrence grotesquely smiled at Holly
“Leave me alone Lawrence! Iʻm warning you! Youʻre asking for a death sentence” Holly scowled
“Come on, your sister wonʻt let me, so I figured maybe you would. Come on. You know I like you right?” he said
“Really? You like me after my sister dissed you? Youʻve been bothering me for weeks now, I think itʻs in your best interest to stop” Holly countered
Feeling perplexed and a bit angry, Lawrence took a few steps forward and really close to Holly. Her breath hitched but she stood her ground. “This is your last warning Lawrence, donʻt make it hard on yourself. I may let you live, but if Cinth finds out what youʻre doing, you are as good as dead” she growled
He laughed with a sinister style “As for Cinth? She pretends to be all high and mighty but sheʻs just a girl putting on an act. I bet….” before he could finish his sentence he was sent flying across the empty baseball field, landing face-first into the pitcher mound, skin peeled and bleeding
“What did you just say? You think Iʻm acting? Iʻm pretending? High and Mighty?” Cinth seethed, venom in her words
Lawrence sat up as blood dripped onto his dirt-ridden shirt, rage in his eyes “B**ch! Iʻll kick your f**king ass!! Urgh!!!!” he shifted and started charging Cinth but she was ready. Shifting into her beautiful Black wolf Haisley, she sidestepped him, turned and caught him by his neck. His eyes widened as he knew that with just a quick shake of her massive jaw and heʻd be dead.
“Spare not the damned” she mind linked her sister and just as she was about to crunch down Holly used her magic to push her sister off Lawrence.
“Noooo! Please Cinth, donʻt kill him!” she yelled
“Are you kidding me right now? He verbally assaults both you and I and attacks me and you save him” Cinth growls at her sister as she shifts and watches Lawrence running off into the tree line.
“YOU need more training because apparently, your assassin instincts are not intact. YOU are going to explain this to Mama, Holly! People like him donʻt deserve to live in our peaceful world. If not you, he will be hurting someone else. Do you want that on your conscience? You can bet he will be coming back for revenge. You better be ready, cause there will be NO saving him the next time!!” Cinth screamed at her sister and walked away
Holly felt so ashamed at that moment. She knew she should have let Cinth finish him. In fact, she knew she should have finished him weeks ago when the assaults first started. But she could feel his pain of neglect from his family, it was his way of acting out. She thought maybe she could help him but when she tried the assaults became physical. He would brush up against her passing it off as walking too close. He knew what he was doing and because Holly said nothing, he continued. Well, it was all out in the open now. Sheʻd have to face her parents. She headed home to the safety of her Grandmothers.
When Holly reached home she could feel the tenseness in the air. Grandma was sitting in her rocking chair.
“So I guess Cinth told you what happened,” Holly said
“In fact, no she didnʻt. But it must be something awful because your mother got here 15 minutes before your sister got home and she is waiting for you downstairs in the TV room” Grace replied. Holly began to turn to head downstairs
“Holly baby? Always know I love you” Grace said. Holly nodded and headed for the stairs.
As she entered the room her mother was seated on the sofa and her eyes told Holly she was seething.
“So Holly, when were you going to tell me about this boy?” Ro said sharply
“Mama, I wanted to try and help him. I donʻt think he has a good home life and….” but as Holly looked at the expression on her motherʻs face she came to the realization that her words pinpointed that the problem was rooted with his parents. Her eyeʻs widened as she shook her head “Mama, please no, please donʻt go to his home, he could get into trouble” she pleaded
“Would you rather I deal with his parents, or deal with him?” Ro fumed, she was scaring Holly who put her heads in her hands and sobbed
“Holly, look at me. Holly!” Ro said as Holly raised her eyes to her mother
“You wonʻt understand my position in this until you one day become a mother. My job is to protect you the best way I know how. Your training was to ensure that things like this doesnʻt happen to you and your sisters. In the world Holly there will always be good and bad. Our job is to decipher between the two and ALWAYS choose good. But honey we are assassins for peace. What that means is that our legacy, the legacy of your ancestors is to rid the world of the vermin who choose to defile our world. If we do not stop them in their tracks, they manifest and spread their filth to others who would probably otherwise not choose that path. If we make sure our territories are peaceful then we raise peaceful pack pups who grow to peaceful adults. Do you understand what Iʻm telling you?” Ro asks “I knew something was bothering you and I had hoped youʻd come to me to talk about it. Holly, you can ALWAYS come to me for ANYTHING. I will always listen and I believe in you. This situation was bigger than you could fix on your own. Itʻs things like this that you need help from others, from us. Donʻt try to do it on your own sweetie thatʻs what we are here for, okay?”
“Yes Mama. Mama? How did you know what happened today?” Holly says
“I felt all your pain today. Iʻd been feeling it for weeks now, but you suppressed them well. But today, it broke through and everything came pouring out” Ro answered
“Iʻm sorry Mama” Holly said as tears rolled down her cheeks
Ro came over and held her daughter “Donʻt carry the world on your shoulders alone hunny. Remember, with us itʻs never I and me but us and we. Okay?”
“Yes, Mama” Holly smiled wishing she had her mother's strength. Maybe someday, she will.
“I need to speak to his parents because I want to see if itʻs starting with them or him. Iʻm sure his parents are aware that I have ZERO tolerance for his behavior. Go to your room hunny and stay there, weʻll talk more when I get back. And Holly? Always know I love you. I am your mother before I am your friend. I will kill for you and die for you as well” and with that she was gone
Holly stood up and headed upstairs to her sisters while replaying the last three sentences her mother said. She prayed to the Moon Goddess that they would comfort her but she already knew Cinth was beyond pissed with her. She opened her bedroom door and her sisterʻs all looked at her as they came and embraced her. Even Cinth.
“Iʻm sorry Cinth. Iʻm sorry that I wasnʻt strong enough to stand up to him. Sorry that I thought I could help him. Sorry that I didnʻt come to all of you first so we could fight his evil together” Holly sobbed. Cinth held her sister long and hard.
“Always know I love you,” Cinth told her
