Chapter 7
Callie's POV...
The next day I woke up with a sore back, red puffy eyes and I winced as I tried to get up. The dungeon door opened and Rose walked in with another tray of food. "Good morning madam," she said politely.
"Morning Rose, you do know you don't have to act all formal with me right?" She shrugged and looked at her shoes after settling the tray down on the table, "it's an old habit." I nodded and began eating. That's when I noticed how thin she looked.
"Do they feed you Rose?"
Her eyes widened, "of course but not a lot, maybe once or twice a day."
I gaped at her, "that's spiteful! No wonder you're so thin. Come on, let's share." If it was possible her eyes widened more, "I shouldn't madam; they'll whip me if they ever find out."
"Then we'll make sure they don't find out, come on, sit," I said patting that seat beside me. She hesitated for a moment longer but her hunger must have been too much for her because after a second she sat next to me. "How old are you Rose?" I asked as she ate the soup. "I'm going to turn seventeen in two weeks ma'am."
I stared at her with shock. She looked at me and smiled, "I guess I'm a late bloomer." When I finally found my voice I chuckled, "I'd say." Silence. "What about your parents?" I felt her tense and I immediately regretted asking, "I'm so sorry, I spoke without thinking, you don't have to tell me."
"No no, it's fine ma'am, the question just shocked me that's all. My parents were killed in the attack." She said looking at the ground as she ate silently.
"What attack?"
"I wasn't born in this pack ma'am, thank god; I was born in the Willow Moon Pack." I stopped and thought, the Willow Moon Pack, why does it sound so familiar? The answer hit me like a ton of bricks.
Flashback...
"Hello I'm Ana Mason, I'm new here." Davis and I looked at her and gave her a faint smile. "I'm Callie and this nerd here is Davis."
"Hey! I'm not a nerd!" complained as he faked a hurt expression.
Ana laughed. "Would you like to sit with us at lunch?" I asked and her eyes brightened, "I would love to."
At lunch we mostly laughed but then... "So, Ana, where do you come from?" asked Davis and Ana's smile vanished.
"Oh I'm from the Willow Moon Pack." Davis then had that look he gets when he thinks when he has a math problem he can't solve, "never heard of it."
Ana shrugged, "we weren't really noticeable, it was a much smaller pack than this one." I stared at her with shock and that's when Davis opened his big mouth again, "how about your family?"
Ana looked at her sandwich, "oh well you know, they're here in this pack in the low rankings kind of and I have a sister." Davis was about to open his mouth again but was interrupted by Ana, "I have to go to the bathroom," she said before rushing out of the lunch room. I glared at Davis.
"What?" he asked confused.
"You just had to do it," I snarled but he kept staring at me confused, "she obviously doesn't want to talk about her past you dimwit!" He stared at me and made an 'oh' sound. I rolled my eyes and walked out of the room.
End of Flashback...
"Lady Callie? Are you alright?" asked a worried looking Rose.
I sighed, "Could you please stop talking to me all formal I would really appreciate it," when she nodded I continued, "Yes I'm fine it's just that, did you happen to know an Ana Mason in your former pack?"
Her eyes widened, "of course! She is my sister. Why, how do you know her?"
I gulped nervously, "she was my friend, and a year ago she came to my pack with your parents."
Rose smiled and her eyes began to water, "How is she? How are my parents?"
"Your parents are fine with the pack," I responded calmly and ignored the question about Ana.
"That's great! What about Ana, how's my older sis?" I didn't answer, I couldn't. "Callie, what happened to my sister?" Rose asked worriedly when I didn't answer. I closed my eyes and inhaled sharply with tears in my eyes. Rose had to know, she needed to know the truth.
"She's dead Rose," I finally managed out. I heard a plate shatter on the ground, "that can't be true. Tell me it's not true!" I shook my head and my watery eyes met hers, "I'm so sorry Rose." Rose's eyes turned red and she left the room in a hurry.
I picked up the pieces of the broken plates as best as I could and I expected Rose to be back soon but she didn't come back. I tried opening the door to go look for her but it was locked. I tried looking for a window, I even moved the few things of furniture I had in my prison. Finally, I gave up and hoped that Rose would come back on her own.
