CHAPTER 9
DANTE'S P.O.V
I couldn't help but gush over the twins. "Wow, nice babies you have there! Can I hold her?" I asked Elle, reaching for Maya.
Elle smiled. "Why not?"
I carefully picked up Maya and placed her on my hip. "Hi, baby!" I cooed, kissing her cheeks.
Elle chuckled. "Good girl, Maya. She doesn't like people carrying her unless she knows them."
Maya proved Elle's point by squirming uncomfortably in my arms. She stretched out her arms, seeking her mom's comfort.
I handed Maya back to Elle and walked over to Jessica, who was holding Dorcas. "Hey, little one!" I said, kissing Dorcas's cheeks.
Dorcas giggled and started playing with Jessica's hair.
Just then, my phone rang. I answered, "Hello? Dante speaking."
LUCAS (over the phone): "Dante, what's up?"
I laughed. "Lucas! Sorry, man. I didn't check the caller ID."
LUCAS: "It's okay. Where are you now?"
I replied, "Oh, I'm at Elle's house right now."
LUCAS: "Oh, really? How are they?"
I grinned. "They're all fine. I got to hold your daughter Maya – she's so cute, and so is Dorcas."
LUCAS: "Um... I don't know what to say, man. I still can't believe I'm a father, Dante."
I chuckled. "Man, it's amazing! I couldn't believe it myself when I saw them. They're so beautiful and cute – they look just like you, except for the hair color. They got that from their mom."
LUCAS: "No, no, man – I don't want you to take pictures of them. I want to meet them myself."
I laughed. "Thanks, dear. I'll buy you lots more toys on my next visit, okay? Haha."
LUCAS: "Dante, who are you talking to?"
I smiled. "Oh, Lucas, sorry – I'm talking to Dorcas. She just walked over to me and gave me one of her toys to play with."
LUCAS: "Oh, okay. Have they started walking?"
I replied, "Yeah, I learned they started walking a month ago, but they still need a lot of support to walk properly."
LUCAS: "Okay, I have to go. Um... please give them a kiss for me."
I smiled. "Okay, man. See you soon."
ELLE'S P.O.V
"Is that Lucas?" I asked Dante, curiosity getting the better of me.
Dante nodded. "Yes, he asked about you and the children."
I raised an eyebrow. "Okay, when is he coming back?"
Dante shook his head. "He didn't say when he's coming back."
I nodded, taking the papers from Dante. "Okay, here are the papers; please sign here for me."
Dante signed the papers, and I handed them back to him. "Thanks very much."
Dante asked, "So, how are you?"
I looked at him, unsure how to respond. "What do you mean, Dante?"
Dante clarified, "I mean, the whole thing that's happening now."
I sighed, feeling a mix of emotions. "To be honest with you, I'm not happy at all. I just woke up one day, and someone came claiming he's my children's father."
I looked at Dante, searching for understanding. "If it were you, how would you feel, Dante?"
Dante's expression turned sympathetic. "I understand how you're feeling, Elle. It's not your fault, so it's not Lucas's fault either. You went there for a child that would be all yours, not to share with anyone."
Dante continued, "But Elle, I know it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to. However, you did a great job. You took care of them till now, without anyone's help."
Dante smiled. "Lucas is a good guy, and he's ever ready to be there for his children. I know you're not settled yet, but as time goes on, everything will be okay."
I nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Dante. "I heard what you said, Dante. Thanks very much."
Dante glanced around the room. "Wow, I have to go. Where are my princesses?"
Jessica replied, "They're taking their nap now."
Dante smiled. "I have to take my leave now. Please give them a kiss when they wake up."
I walked Dante to the door, and as we said our goodbyes, I noticed the way Dante and Jessica looked at each other.
As we walked back to the living room, I cleared my throat to get Jessica's attention. "Jess!"
"Yes, Elle?" Jessica replied.
I raised an eyebrow. "What's going on between you two?"
Jessica giggled, looking sheepish. "Nothing, Elle. He's just hot, that's all."
I stared at Jessica, intrigued. "What do you mean he's hot, Jess?"
Jessica shrugged. "I don't know, Elle."
I knew what Jessica was thinking, and I decided to tease her. "Stop it, Jessica."
Jessica laughed. "Come help me prepare their lunch before they wake up. Please bring the food stuff we bought yesterday; it's on the table over there."
As we worked on preparing lunch, Jessica asked, "So, what do you think about Lucas?"
I hesitated, unsure how to respond. "What do you mean?"
Jessica clarified, "I mean, he's a nice guy, you know."
I shrugged. "I don't know, Jessica. You tell me."
Jessica smiled. "Come on, Elle. You know what I'm talking about."
I sighed, feeling a sense of frustration. "If what I'm thinking is what you mean, then girl, I'm sorry. I don't have time for men right now. All I'm thinking about right now is my children's well-being – nothing else, Jessica."
Jessica raised an eyebrow. "Leave Lucas alone; he's a man-whore."
I looked at Jessica, surprised. "What do you mean a man-w***e?"
Jessica explained, "He takes everything in a skirt."
I gasped, shocked. "How did you know that?"
Jessica replied, "You did a research on him."
I nodded, feeling a sense of justification. "What? Can't I do a research on the father of my children?"
Jessica cautioned, "Be careful, girl. He's the father of your children."
I knew Jessica was right, and I decided to keep my distance from Lucas. "I know, that's why I'm keeping everything low."
Jessica asked, "So, is he handsome or not?"
I rolled my eyes, feeling annoyed. "Stop asking me that, Jessica."
Jessica teased, "Tell me."
I sighed, feeling frustrated. "Men are all the same."
Jessica disagreed, "Not all of them, Elle. Some of them..."
I cut Jessica off, feeling a sense of bitterness. "But they all have that stick between their legs."
Jessica cautioned, "Easy, girl. I'm not asking you to start dating Lucas. But, girl, on a serious note, you need to see
