Chapter 2

378 Words
Elliot and I had been college classmates. The first time I saw him, I fell for him completely, almost as if I had been under a spell. To be with him, I chased him relentlessly and tried every method I could think of. He was handsome, talented, and ambitious. The only problem was that his family had little money. He had been raised by a single mom, and his mom had severe kidney disease. To afford his mom's kidney transplant, he had no choice but to marry me. Over the seven years of our marriage, he worked his way up step by step. He went from an unknown junior employee to a CEO in his own right. But our relationship never grew with time. He still loved his first love the same way he always had, and he left me for her again and again. Then he got rich. As rich as my family. And just like that, he no longer needed my family's support to hold him up. I just hadn't realized it. I had even been reckless enough to challenge his first love again and again. On the day of the accident, I saw Elliot and Claire acting far too close, and I got into a fierce argument with him in the car. That was why he lost focus and crashed into the guardrail. After Elliot pulled Claire from the wreck, he turned and looked coldly at me who was still trapped inside and unable to move. He just stood there. I was terrified. It felt as if every drop of blood in my body was draining away. I begged him to save me. But Elliot held Claire in his arms and sneered at me. "Now you know fear? Too late. Who told you to make such a scene? Claire almost hurt her hand because of you. You know she plays the piano. If her hand had been injured, I never would have forgiven you. So stay in there and think about what you did. If I don't teach you a lesson, you will never learn to behave." At that memory, a tearing pain ripped through my chest. This time, I had learned restraint. I had decided to let him go and set myself free too.
