Chapter 5

About two weeks later, I was finally discharged from the hospital. Nathan was waiting for me outside the hospital entrance, wearing a casual suit and leather shoes as he leaned against a flashy sports car. When he saw me, he gave me a bright smile. "Congratulations. You're finally out." I nodded and handed him my luggage. "Help me carry this." The moment Nathan took my luggage, I spotted Elliot standing a short distance behind him. Elliot's expression darkened instantly. He arched a brow, a mocking smile tugging at his lips. "What, you're not riding with me? I thought we agreed we'd go straight to the courthouse once you were discharged. Unless you've changed your mind." His smile deepened. "You know, if you have, maybe I could..." I shook my head. "I'm still getting the divorce. Just not getting into your car again. I'd like to make it there alive." I walked past him and opened the passenger door of Nathan's car. Elliot's expression soured. Nathan scoffed. "You left your own wife to fend for herself while you rushed off to save your mistress. Who in their right mind would get in a car with you?" I gave Nathan a reassuring look. "Once the divorce is final, we'll celebrate." Then I turned back to Elliot, who was still standing there. "What are you waiting for? Get in your car. We have a divorce to finalize." I was about to close the door when Elliot strode over and caught it with one hand. The veins stood out along the back of his hand as his grip tightened. "Vanessa, are you really that eager to cut me out of your life?" His expression turned cold. "You certainly weren't in this much of a hurry to get away from me when you were chasing after me.
