Chapter 4

363 Words
In the end, Elliot stormed out with Claire and slammed the door behind him. I watched his angry retreat without caring at all. After I signed the divorce papers, the tight knot in my heart seemed to loosen. Maybe I really had let him go. I lay in bed and slept well. When I woke again, I opened my phone and found countless messages from Nathan Cole. Nathan: I heard you finally signed the divorce papers. Nathan: Congratulations on being single again. Good for you! I have disliked Elliot Shaw for ages. Nathan: When you get discharged, I will celebrate with you. ***** Looking at those messages, I couldn't help smiling. Even the people around me thought this divorce was a good thing. Then maybe it really was. Nathan and I had grown up together. We were very close. He was the Cole family's only son, the heir whose word carried real weight at home. He was spoiled, arrogant, and willful. He had always looked down on Elliot and had criticized him in front of me countless times. He said Elliot walked around cold-faced every day, as if the whole world owed him a fortune. Nathan told me not to be with Elliot. He said a man that proud would never let anyone warm his heart. But I hadn't believed him. I thought that if I treated Elliot well enough, he would have to feel it one day. One day, he would fall for me too. I never expected Nathan's words to come true. Nathan had been right. Elliot's heart really couldn't be warmed. Thankfully, I had finally come to my senses. Thinking of this, I replied to Nathan. Vanessa: Good. We should celebrate. When I get discharged, you had better drink with me properly. Nathan replied almost instantly. Nathan: Of course. I will take you to my new bar then. I will line up a dozen hot guys for you, and you can have all the fun you want. I laughed out loud when I saw the message. A dozen hot guys? That sounded wonderful. I was already starting to look forward to being single once I got out of the hospital.
