We both look at Lia as she walks away and the moment she’s out of our view, we turn, facing each other. The hostility between us cannot be denied.
“What’s this about? You want to take another cheap shot?” I ask just as he opens his mouth to speak.
“I deserve that,” he says with a slight nod, raising his hands in surrender. “Look, man, I’m sorry about the other day. I made a mistake, I thought I saw something which wasn’t there and acted irrationally. I'm embarrassed by my idiotic behavior. You didn’t deserve that, and I’m hoping that we can put it behind us and move forward.”
