forced to wait

"Well sister now that you are eighteen maybe you will scent your mate, says Mauro. Looks like my friend Alpha Vaughn Flintwood and his cousin Nilo are here. We should go greet them. I feel bad for the girl paired with that lazy bum Nilo. I have heard that he likes to fight and hates working," concludes Mauro. " Let's hope for the best," replies Mala. "Mate?" " Mate", Lena mindlinks to Mala confused. " What do you mean," asks Mala. "I mean seriously Alpha Vaughn and Nilo smell the same," replies Lena. "Mala, may we talk so we may get to know one another better? I mean I've been around you most of your life. I felt we were mates four years ago, however, I had to wait for you to come of age. I know you have waited for me just as I have waited for you." "Sure, Nilo after all we are mates," I say. I took his hand in mine and we were walking to a table in a corner when this other wolf intercepts us. His name is Vaughn and he is a widower. He asks me to dance. Nilo is gritting his teeth. " I don't know if I should, " I reply while nodding in Nilo's direction. He smiles and asks me "What harm could just one dance do?" I pat Nilo's arm and assured him I would come straight back. He balled up his fists and curtly nodded. Vaughn led me to the dance floor. "Mala you are beautiful tonight as always. I am sorry to see you paired with such a low-ranked wolf. I wish you were my mate," he said while sweeping a stray curl from my face. Vaughn leaned in close to my ear and whispered, "if you were my mate I would treat you like the princess that you are." Mala blushed and replied, "Thank you for the kind words. My parents raised me to respect the moon Goddess pairing. I am sure she has her reasons." Vaughn pulls her close as the song plays. "I have waited for a long time for you to come of age Mala. There was a time when I thought you would be my Luna. So why did you agree to talk to Nilo? Are you going to accept him as your destined mate?" " Alpha Vaughn to be honest Lena scented both of you as my mate. So I honestly just concluded he is my mate because you already have a mate, but I feel sparks with you I don't know this confuses me," I admit hesitantly. "You know Nilo has a reputation for always fighting and yet being lazy as a warrior and not wanting to train, says Vaughn. I on the other hand am always training and also build houses for other wolves. I have also been Alpha since my parents' disappearance." Vaughn has dark brown hair and emerald-green eyes. He stands 6'2 and is very muscular yet slender. He is the Alpha of the pack Nilo is from. He looks handsome tonight with such smooth dancing skills. However, he once had a human-chosen mate that he met about the same time his parents disappeared. She was killed last year in a car accident. Then you have Nilo not bad looking just not as muscular as most of the other male wolves. He is a male chauvinist that thinks women should be seen and not heard. I am a strong-willed young woman. He will not keep me locked away. I will not reject him yet as that would make my parents unhappy. The song is almost over and unbeknownst to me my back is to Nilo when Vaughn leaned in to whisper in my ear. All of a sudden there is a Roar in the room. Vaughn takes a protective step in front of me as we look to see who roared. Oh no! this can't be good. It was Nilo that roared and he was looking angrily at me. I am scared and standing there behind Vaughn wondering why Nilo is angry. He is now face to face with Vaughn gritting his teeth and reaching for me. He growls at Vaughn who has me guarded behind him. "Why were you kissing my mate? "Nilo yells at Alpha Vaughn. I am appalled and go to step out from behind Vaughn. "He didn't kiss me, you, stupid Neanderthal! He was just telling me how beautiful I looked tonight. You of all people should know better than to behave in such a manner. You are a warrior, after all, isn't your job to protect the pack not start fights with your pack members" I tell Nilo. "Thank you for the dance and compliments, you are a true gentleman," I say to Alpha Vaughn. "It was my pleasure," Alpha Vaughn said with a smile. I then walked to where my brothers were waiting for me. "Mauro, I don't know if I can accept Nilo as my destined mate." Then we heard a pop! and looked to see what had happened. Nilo had hit Vaughn. Vaughn shook his head laughing hard. He then grabbed Nilo's hand twisted his arm behind his back and walked him to the door. Wow! they left neither saying goodbye. Now, what do I do? I feel confused and relieved all at the same time. The man I want just escorted the man I am paired with out the door. What do I do now? "Mom, Vaughn escorted Nilo out for hitting him. Nilo may be my destined mate." "Sweetheart I'm glad you met your destined mate. You know how important the mate bond is, however, I think you may need to spend some time thinking about what your choices are moving forward. Remember rejecting the Moon Goddess gift means you may not get a second chance. So I suggest that you think about that and possibly give it some time. I'm sure it was all a great misunderstanding." "Okay, Momma I'll give it some time. I think that Nilo should apologize. If it's okay with you I think I'd prefer to go for a run." "That will be fine Mala, just make sure you take one of your brothers with you." "Yes Ma'am" "Thomas, will you and Mary go for a run with me?" "Sure little sister let me grab Mary," replied Thomas. "Hey Mary, thanks for agreeing to go on a run with me." "Of course Mala, we all heard what happened, and I'm so sorry you are having a bad time with your first Ball." We go out to the treeline and Mary helped me out of my dress so I could shift. My wolf is feeling just as confused as I am. She is a beautiful white wolf. She is fairly fast and enjoys the run. Afterward, I thank Mary and Thomas then go to my room.
