Royal Bournemouth General Hospital, December 2011 Dear Ava, I looked down on your tiny frame outlined by a single white sheet on your hospital bed and you looked so small and pale, but so beautiful and so much like the photo you sent me that I carry in my wallet close to my heart. Your hair was spread out across the pillow, a yellow halo above my angel, my guardian angel who had helped me through the hardest time imaginable. I was seeing a miracle and that miracle was you. I touched your hand and you flinched slightly but you didn’t wake up. I wanted to grab you by the shoulders and gently shake you until you opened your eyes. I wanted to laugh with you and take you in my arms, unable to believe that I had found you, but you didn’t wake up. I wanted you to see me and look into my eyes
