Chapter 38 – Spearpoint
On Ellis Island Station, the defense platform named Spearpoint, its name inspired by the weapon carried by the Roman god of war, came to life. Its main anti-ship weapon consisted of six domes, each positioned so as to cover every conceivable angle. The protective outer doors of each dome opened, revealing massive turrets, each bearing a single autocannon.
Three of the turrets had clear lines of fire at their programmed target. They swiveled quickly and silently in the vacuum of space, locked on to Red Sky, and then slowed their tracking to a crawl. They continued to creep around, almost imperceptibly, following the target's flight path in real time, as both Ellis Island and Red Sky soared through space at different velocities.
