Chapter 1: The Nightmare
It was ten o'clock in the evening on the street of Fifth Avenue, New York City, when Glenn Grande had his eleven-year-old son in the car, Gideon. He was apprehensive at those times while driving the car as he chased one car. The sound of speeding cars can be heard all over the street as a businessman drives fast as if a car is being chased. The young Gideon was very scared while watching his father driving. Gideon almost trembled as he tightly clung to his seat. "Dad, what's going on?!" He asked his father, nervous and confused. ''Just fasten your seat belt on, son!''Glenn yelled back. Gideon had no idea what was going on and simply heeded his father's command. He buckled his seat belt and nervously observed his father driving furiously. "I'll kill you, William, you'll see!" Glenn exclaimed as he continued chasing the car. Gideon was taken aback. "What are you saying, Dad?! Please pay attention to the lights; it's a warning! ” He knew that his Dad was referring to his Uncle William. It seemed that Glenn didn’t hear the voice of his son, but instead focused on chasing the car full of madness on his face. Because of driving fast, Glenn no longer follows the traffic light. He continued to drive without being aware of an oncoming car, and due to the fast driving, their car was thrown on the road just as hard. And everything was moving so quickly for Gideon that all he could see was darkness. ''Daaad!'' Gideon gets up soon after the nightmare. That was not a dream. It really happened two decades ago, yet it is still fresh in his mind. His head is still throbbing from the hangover. "Damn, my head," he mumbled as he gently arose from his slumber, and he was surprised when he turned his sight to the woman sleeping next to him. "Sucks, what did I do again?" He asks himself as he stands up. He was still looking at the woman, he shook his head and put on his boxers and pants. After a time, the door was knocked on. ''Damn!" He murmured as he slipped his pants on. He attempted to awaken the woman whose name he had forgotten. Maybe she was one of the bitches she got drunk with last night. "Hmm Babe, I'm still drowsy, let me stay here," said the woman. He was taken aback when this woman called him "babe." Until his Uncle Sam slammed the door open. "Gid, I knocked several times—-Ow," he said as he noticed the woman lying on the bed. Gideon bit his lower lip. "Nah, Uncle, I don't even know who she is, believe me," he said, scratching his brow. Sam took a big breath, saying, "Never mind, go fix this and I'll come back to you later." then exited the room. Gideon nodded and looked at the woman. He walked into the bathroom and stared at himself in the mirror, wondering how long he could distract himself from a nightmare he would never forget for the rest of his life. He returned his attention to his body, the scratch on his chest that would never fade. "Babe! I'm leaving now; I'll see you later," he heard the woman say in his room. He didn't say anything; instead, he rolled his eyes and proceeded to shower. ------ Jodi awoke in her bed at seven o'clock in the morning. She peered out the window, her gaze drawn to the sunlight beyond the apartment. She was surprised at how lovely the environment was, but she saw that the beauty of the world seemed to be the polar opposite of her existence. She abruptly closed the curtain and prepared to leave her room. She went to the restroom to wash her face. Then she looked in the mirror and stared at herself. She didn't look gorgeous at all, or so she thought. After her parents died in the tragedy, she raised her younger brother. She virtually forgot about herself, not wearing make-up or buying her own clothing. She must work hard for her brother in order to pay for his schooling as well as his asthma medication. "Good morning," her brother said as he stepped out of his room. "Good morning, my lion!" she said joyfully. Jake scratched his eyes. "What's for breakfast?" He inquired as he sat on the couch. "Name it, and I'll prepare it for you!" Jodi said cheerfully. Even though they no longer had parents, Jodi did everything she could to help her brother feel less alone and unhappy. ''Uh uh, fried scrambled eggs are still much tastier," he added, winking at his elder sister. Jodi grinned and approached Jake, her brother, kissing him on the cheek. "As you wish, master," she said. Jodi goes to the kitchen and prepares the stove pan for cooking.. After an hour, Jodi decided to go to the Collins hospital to follow up her brother's free medication. This is what he was hoping for so that his brother could be free from medication. Apart from the great help from her to support his needs in school, it will be a priority whenever he is diagnosed with asthma. Jodi was walking down the street when she glanced at her phone. She is going to be late for her appointment. She had previously been late, and the counter was not permitted to take her paper, so it took a long time for her younger brother's name to be dropped for the free medication. "Oh s**t!" she exclaimed when she saw the time on her phone. She hurried on her way, not looking back anywhere. ***Beeeeeeeep! Jodi's eyes widened because of that loud horn of the fast approaching car. Because of the stupor, she was unable to avoid it and was completely hit by a car. She sat on the ground, clutching her bleeding knee from the scratch. The man, Gideon, got out of his car and looked at the woman he bumped into. He stroked his brow. "Oh really? Now when am I in a hurry?" Gideon exclaimed upon seeing the woman's knee bleed. Jodi frowned; she couldn't see the man's face in front of her because of the sun; she tried to stand up but was too weak; she was surprised that this man didn't even help her stand up. "Any help?" she asked, extending her hand in the hope that this man would assist her in standing. Gideon sighed and rolled his eyes. Instead of accepting the woman's hand, he took his phone from his pocket and called one of his employees near that place. He returned his gaze to the woman, who was still sitting on the ground. "It's just a wound. I've called someone to assist you." he sighed. "I have to go, I'm going to be late." Gideon said as he attempted to return to his car. Jodi almost gasped in surprise. Only this time she encountered someone who was at fault; he complained about being late, and did not even help him stand up. That's why, in her annoyance, while the arrogant man could not get in his car, Jodi forced herself to stand. "Hey, you're complaining about being late, but you didn't ask me if I'm not going to be late for where I'm going?" Jodi scoffed. Gideon smirked. "Who cares? Even if you're late, I know where I'm heading is more important," he buffed. He examined the woman from head to toe. "Look at yourself, it's obvious you're not going anywhere important," he said as he got into his car. "What?" Gideon ignored her and started his car's engine. Jodi was about to say something when he honked at her and drove away. Her gaze followed him. She thought that her day was very unpleasant, and she couldn't help but be annoyed and blame that arrogant man for being rude to her. She looked at her watch and sighed because she was late for her appointment...again. __________
