CHAPTER 9: I PROMISE

It was 4:30 am in the morning and Kanaan was already up dressed in her gym clothes as she ran on the treadmill with her focused on the darkness that was found outside the glass window,

" Good morning ma" greeted an old woman in her late 60's as she walked in with a glass of protein milkshake in a tray which she held in her hands.

The sound of her voice brought Kanaan's attention back in the four walls of the room, as she became aware of her presence

" Good morning Nanny" she replied before reducing the speed she was on, " how many times do I have to tell you, you don't have to do this anymore, there are more than enough people in the house who can handle this" she pointed out as she wiped the sweat from her face with the towel hanging around her neck.

" It's not a hard task, you relieved me from all my duties and yet you let me stay in the house, which is such a blessing that I don't want to take for granted"

" That's because you didn't have a life, you were too busy taking care of us"

" And I have no regrets, not even once did I regret it, you and Lane are like my very own kids. I have always taken care of you ever since you were young, doing it now is really nothing" she said with a smile remembering when she first came to work for them.

" Thank you Nanny" she appreciated taking the glass from her hand and drinking it all at once, almost immediately Sky walked in:

" Good morning" he smiled at Nanny Tess who was leaving, before proceeding to talk to his boss

" Morning" I'm here to remind you about your meeting with the Chinese investors by 9 a.m. and then the chief inspector of crime and justice at 12 p.m."

" Hmm that sounds like a meeting I don't want to be in, I hate having anything to do with the police but unfortunately today is my lucky day" she said sarcastic.

" Ma!"

" Yes?"

" I know you didn't want to hear anything about your family but your father has been calling frequently recently, he also dropped a couple of text messages, as well as your brother. They want-....

" Shhhh" Kanaan said cutting off Sky from talking " I don't want to hear a word about them, I'll call them at my own free time. Do you understand? I don't need you or anyone to pick their calls just ignore it when it rings" she added

" Very well ma"

" Good, one last thing, I need you to keep an eye on Miles"

" Miles Davis??"

" Yes, it so happens that he's the same guy at the cafe" she pointed out

" That's why he looks so familiar"

" I want you to send one of our best bodyguard to him, nothing should happen to him under any circumstances"

" Understood" Sky said before walking off.

After the exercise, she had a shower and changed her clothes into something classy, She wore a white gown with a split in the front, which was dangerously high, revealing her thigh, the dress was sleeveless as well.

She remove the band from her hair…. Stretching it out letting it fall down to her shoulder.

As she walked down the stairs with grace and Elegance everyone sitting on the dinner table were amazed by her beauty and how she could look so breathtakingly beautiful while being natural.

" You look amazing" Evan complimented while Sky stared speechless

" I know but either way thank you, is breakfast ready? I need to leave early but I want to have breakfast with everyone before I leave" she said.

The table was set with seconds but two people were missing from the table

" I'll go get Klaus" Evan said as he proceeded to leave the table

" No, he's been punished, he's going to have his breakfast in his room" she said taking a bite of her food as Evan sat back down.

" That explains Klaus, what about a-.."

" He's resting, he has to leave for work in a few minutes" Evan cut off Sky from his statement

" Alright, the rest of us would have breakfast then" the minute spent on breakfast was eaten in silence before she left.

Evan knew pretty well, that when ever Klaus was been punished, he doesn't eat" he grabbed a plate of food walking up to his room, he knocked on getting to the door.

Klaus laid on his bed facing the ceiling watching the fan rotate " I'm not hungry just take it back to the kitchen" he voiced, knowing Kanaan would send his food up.

" It's me, Evan open up"

" What do you want? haven't you heard that I'm not hungry" he replied hoping he would go away

" Exactly why I'm concerned, you are under my care and I'm supposed to make sure nothing happens to you under my watch. open up we can't have you fallen sick"

" No go away"

" Why are you always acting stubborn, just open up" he said trying to convince him to open the door.

" I already told you, please just leave me alone!"

" Klaus!!" Evan kept knocking but there was no response

" You know I could go get the spare key right? but I wouldn't do that because I respect your privacy but starvation isn't the right answer, in addition you know how things work here"

" Why can't you just leave me alone and let me be?" he asked opening the door from behind

" That's because I don't want you starving yourself, So are you going to eat or do you want me to feed you" he asked with a smile

Mile got dressed and was ready to leave for work, just as he was about to enter into his father room, he couldn't help but hear his father's voice he was on the phone, he couldn't make out the words his father was saying because he wasn't audible… He pushed the door open a little bit wider, he could only make out a few words that his father

" I'll be there don't worry, it's a promise" he said

" Dad?" he called out making him immediately hang up the phone and shoving it in his pocket

" What's wrong?" He asked in a panic

" Who were you talking to?" He asked out of curiosity

" Nobody, it's just a close friend of mine, I'm asking him for money so we can survive"

" Dad, you know we are not supposed to make calls with our old cell phones, I thought we agreed to throw them away?"

" We did?"

" Dad what ever you're doing shouldn't be dangerous and I don't want our lives to be in danger, please don't ever do that again!"

" I'm sorry son, I just realised it. I will dispose of it myself" he said observing his son. " Did you hear what the conversation was about" he asked wanting to know what part of the conversation he heard.

" No! You were whispering too low" Miles replied

" Good, I want it to be a surprise for you and your mum"

" As long as it's nothing dangerous, just stay in the house. I'm going off to work, mum has also decided to go out to look for a job even though I don't like the idea of her looking for a job but I don't have a choice in the matter" he said letting out a sigh.

" Have a nice day at work" his father said smiling at him " that was close" his said under his breath as Miles closed the door

" Don't worry son, it will be all over soon, very very soon, I'll fix everything" he said to himself..

Mile walked out of the house, he couldn't help but feel like he was being watched, he took a deep breath shaking of the feeling and walking down to the street before getting on a bus to work.

He met Emily already in the cafe cleaning, while a delivery truck was parked just outside the cafe

" Thank goodness, you're here can you help them bring down the supplies and please be careful most of it are breakable"

Mile quickly dropped his bag and carried the boxes inside into the storage, unloading the truck took a lot of time and Miles was exhausted as he picked the last box carrying it inside, he was about to drop it when he missed a step and the box came crashing down to the floor,

" s**t!" He cursed in his head underneath his breath, quickly picking it up and opening it to check. If anything was broken in it, he opened it halfway but all he could see was a white substance that looked like a powder it was all over the cover.

" I'm dead" he said opening trying to open it completely but before he could get a better view of whatever was inside Emily walked in

" What happened? are you alright?"

" I think I broke this" he said pointing towards the box.

" No worries, I'll clean it up, accident happened" Emily said smiling as she took the box from him and put it on the ground by her side

" Did you get injured?" she asked as she picked his arm up observing it for any injury

" I'm fine, I just feel a little bit sad that I broke something and you want to take care of it"

" you should not be worried about that, you are new here so I understand. You didn't do it on purpose, just go and help Adrian outside" she said smiling and watching him leave.

Adrian on the other hand was handling a lot of customers

" it's good that you're here, I need you to deliver this to Beauty Mix, Sky is too busy to come pick it up, it's Miss Kanaan's orders, I want you to go drop it off. Emily and I can handle things at the cafe until you come back" Adrian said dropping off the bag on the counter beside Mile who was confused as to why he had to deliver it.

" Just make sure you don't make any mistakes while you're there, drop it in her office or you can drop it with Sky or the Secretary and leave immediately we still need you to work here" he said pointing out to the ocean of customers waiting to take the orders,

" That's wouldn't be a problem, I'll be back in a jiffy" he said with a smile as he grabbed the package ready to deliver it and get one step closer to his goals of setting his family free.
