Chapter 19

Kelly POV

I left Ashley and Jamie together. I really hope they could sort it all out. If they could only see how good they are together. I wish their was someone out there for me.. and from everything that happened I knew my birthday tomorrow would be forgotten, but I didn’t mind. A 16th birthday for a wolf is important, we shift for the first time (most of us) and run with the pack. We also have a chance at meeting our mate on the same day, but I don’t hold out much hope. Sometimes it can take years to find them. Being away from my pack for those two years puts me in a rather hard basket, I should have been here meeting other packs and sussing out potential mates but I was locked away in clinic, never able to meet visiting people.

I went back to my clinic and continued to patch up wolves from their training day. I could feel my senses getting stronger, my smell was heightened, my pace quickened. I even managed to break one of my clip boards in frustration. After work I went back to my room in the pack house, I wasn’t feeling very hungry, so I skipped dinner. I knew this would hurt, shifting for the first time I mean, so I didn’t want to eat and make myself sick through the shift. No way did I want to embarrass my self or my brother that way. I lay on my bed, unable to drift into sleep. I tossed and turned for a long time. Finally my eyes got heavy and I began to finally rest. Before sleep took over my body, I smelt it. or did i? a crackling fire? But why would someone have lit a fire now? Its too warm. Before I could contemplate it any longer, sleep took my body over.

I awoke the next morning, stretching out my limbs before I remembered what I smelt before sleep last night. I quickly sat up in bed and took the deepest breath I could. I tried to remember what the smell was, but it escaped me. I smelt nothing out of the ordinary and decided to get up and start my day. After I cleaned myself up and had gotten dressed, I was about to make my way to the kitchen for some breakfast when I was mind linked by Jamie

‘Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Kelly, Happy birthday to you’ I know it was silly but It made me laugh. I was happy knowing that my brother had not forgotten my birthday.

‘come to our room, we have gifts for you’ I was so excited that I ran out of my room and down the hall to see Jamie and Ashley. When I got to the door I went to knock but the door opened revealing an over decorated room. Full of banners, balloons, streamers and “PRESTENTS” I cried out. I could hear them laughing at me but I didn’t care. The last time I have gotten anything for my birthday was from dad. Before I opened my first one I started to tear up. Ashley was the first one to notice, she came over to me, embracing me in a bear hug. “I know, you just take your time. We are here for you too” she said. I stopped sobbing and opened my first gift. I squealed with delight as I spun around. “you got me an I phone?” I could see Jamie share a moment with Ashley and knew this was really her, but I ran to my brother anyway and gave him the biggest hug. I spent my morning with them, opening up all my gifts. Jamie ordered breakfast and lunch to be brought up to the room. Our lunch consisted of a beautiful cake. He remembered my sweet tooth. Ash, told Jamie to leave after cake and we would be spending the rest of the day getting ready for tonight.

“what’s tonight?” I asked her. She smiled from ear to ear at me “tonight we are celebrating you, becoming a wolf. We also need to spend some time getting ourselves prepared as this will be the night Jamie tells the pack we are expecting and that you will be the pups guardian” she held me hands in hers and we cried together. No wonder we needed so long to get ready. Maybe I was going to get my own happy ending. We both took deep breaths and Ash began to unvail a dress when I picked up the smell again.

“can you smell that?” I sniffed the air again

“smell what?” she said, clearly more concerned about the dress.

“it smells like a wood fire burning. I smelt it last night too” I sniffed again but the smell was gone.

“I don’t smell anything. Come on, lets see this dress” she pulled down the zip to reveal a wonderful sky blue dress. It came just under my knee and was covered in lace. There were small moons sewn into the dress. It was strapless with a heart shaped neckline. It was exactly what I would have picked for myself. We embraced again and cried some more. Finally we got ourselves ready, we helped each other to our hair, just like real sisters would. I had mine in a half up do, Ash had hers braided to one side revealing her mates mark. I realised that I envied her a little. “I will see you down stairs, Jamie will walk you out and I will make the introduction tonight. I hope that’s ok?” she asked me

“of course, I would love for you to be the one to introduce me.” We embraced for out final time and she left me alone in the room. I could hear everyone outside and a hush came over the crowd.

“Brothers, sisters and family. Tonight we are re-introducing to you all, the past Alpha’s daughter. We celebrate her coming of age and ask her to take the lead in out pack run.” With that I knew I had to get to Jamie. I found him waiting at the bottom of the stairs for me. He took my hand and led me to the doors, where beyond that, the pack was waiting for me.

“please, welcome the newest wolf to our pack, Kelly.” With her final words Jamie pushed open the doors and proudly walked me through the crowd, to the stage where a waiting Ashely was beaming at me. She held out her hands and helped me onto the stage. I looked into the crowd and began to feel nervous.

‘its ok, just let your wolf take over’ Jamie mind linked me. I began to let my wolf take control, when something happened to me that I didn’t expect.

My wolf had full control of me. She could smell him. ‘mate’ she whispered to me. The first time I have ever spoken to her. We looked around, Jamies face was ‘confused. “Mate” I growled trying to find him in the crowd. Jamie realised what was happening when he noticed a pair of blue eyes walking in from the tree line. his eyes were fixed on mine as mine were to his. The wolf came racing in through the pack, the pack opened up a path for him as he came charging at me. He jumped, shifting at the last second before he landed on his knees at my feet. “MATE” he growled. He raised his head and for the first time I could see him. “Brett?”
