Mrs. Evans grinned. “Now there’s an interesting story.” Dr. Rhineman and Victor were friends at the University of Michigan. Frederick was studying chemistry and Victor was in law school. Rhineman’s girlfriend, Doreen, was also attending the university. She was a rich society girl who lived in Grosse Pointe Shores—a wealthy suburban area bordering Detroit. The three of them hung out together, going to frat, sorority parties and sporting events. Of the three, Dr. Rhineman was the most serious. Doreen and Victor were real party people.
Later, Rhineman married Doreen, with Victor as his best man. As time passed, Frederick went to work for a large chemical company in the Detroit area. Victor became a prominent attorney in the governor’s office in Michigan. Doreen traveled in the social circles
