Chapter 1 : Opportunities
Chapter 1
“Lady Kala, her highness wants to speak with you”
Closing the book in my hand and placing it down my bed. I looked at the door, and saw one of the kingdoms maiden.
I smiled at her and stood up.
“Thank you.”
“Yes, her highness.”
She ones again bowed, and closed the door carefully. Before walking towards the door, I heard a noises, outside. Smiling, I walked near the window and took a glimpse at the commotion.
My eyes widened and I burst into laughter. I saw two guards chasing Ruffy at the field. They were covered in mud and running all around.
“Ruffy sure is a good pet.”
Looking at ruffy playing in the mud happily made me relieved. Smiling at the scene, I turned my back and walked at the door. Opening it slowly and closing it again.
I started my journey to mother's room. It was not too long and gloomy. Everytime a person pass by me, they bow and gives me a smile.
A short conversation, about their health and day, then a few greetings. After a long walk, I was met by my mother's door. Knocking three times before opening it and going inside.
“Reina, darling.” I was met by my mother's sweet voice.
“Mother” Walking towards her and giving her a hug.
After having a sweet hug, she smiled at me and caressed my cheeks. She then held my hand and guided me to sit at the stool, infront of her big mirror. Then she took her brush and started to combe my hair, lovingly.
“How was your day darling?”
“My day is good, mother. How about yours?”
After I asked the question. She stopped combing my hair. Looking at the mirror, I saw her expression.
It got much more softer and relaxed. She shook her head slowly and combed my hair ones more.
“It's good darling. But I have a simple problem that keeps on bothering me.”
“Pray tell?”
“Well, you know that the Lantern Festival is nearing”
I can't help but to smile when I heard that. The Lantern Festival is finally nearing. One of my favorite Festivals in Luminesce.
The Lantern Festival is celebrated at the 5th of October. It is one of the liveliest and fun festival of all. In the morning, different stalls will be open and I can go out, secretly.
Then when darkness engulfs us, the lanterns lights up the darkest sky. It gives me the satisfaction of its beauty. Music will start to blare and people will start to dance.
The most fun part is. The palace gives every person each lantern. For them to write a letter and send them away at the sky. It can be a letter about your family, problems or pleas.
It gives every person a chance to have peace and be happy.
“Darling?”
“Can you please reiterate what you said? I was to caught up with my thoughts. I'm sorry.”
“It's fine darling. As I said, the Lantern Festival is nearing.”
“Yes, what seems to be the problem mother?”
“Well, the council wishes to hand you the opportunity of giving the speech in the festival.” Mother sighed and placed down the brush. “They stated that this can be an experience for you. The heir of the thrown.”
“I-I....”
“Darling. It's okay, if you can't do it. It was just a wish by the council.” She smiled at me and look at the mirror staring at my reflection. “Look at you, such a fine maiden.”
“My daughter, you had grown up to fast.” She said with a displeased tone. “In just a few years. You will inherit the thrown and lead Luminescence in the right path.”
“Mother.” I held her hand and turned myself around. “I wish to accept the opportunity to send the speech.”
I smiled at her. She smiled at me and hugged me tight.
“You will be a great Queen one day, darling. We are so proud of you.”
After a few. We heard a knock on the door. Mother broke the hug and kisses my forehead.
“State the name.”
“It's me her highness. I would like to give the list of wishes from the people.”
“You may, come in Chan.”
The door opened and Chan came in. I looked at mother one more time and gave her a smile. Before turning my back, I gave her a small wave.
I looked at Chan and she smiled at me, which I returned. She bowed when I passed by her and opened the door that I will be going through. I mumbled a thank you, before she closed the door.
“What should I do now?”
An idea popped out. My smile turned into a smirk. Moving my feet and walking through the halls.
“I should pay a visit”
I mumbled and fasten my pace. When I reached a certain door, I opened it and walked over the table. Sitting on the chair and taking one piece of paper, then placing the ink and feather near me.
I was almost done with my art. When I heard the door cracked open. I didn't bother on looking at the person, knowing that it was only the owner of the room going inside.
“Jesus Christ Reina!”
I bit my lower lip and looked at him His hands was placed on his chest, while his eyes is widely open. His face was flustered and shock is evident in his face.
‘He looks like he saw a ghost, goodness. His expression is priceless.’
“Finally, you said my name.”
He calmed himself and stood straight.
“Lady Kala, it's such a surprise that I saw you here.”
Narrowing my eyes at him, he gave me a smirk. Which I returned.
“General Craig, I'm quite suprise that I saw you here too. At a time like this.”
Both of us narrowed our gaze at each other. In just a minute, both of us burst into laughter's. He shook his head before pulling a seat, placing it in front of his desk.
He was Benedict Colem Craig. A close friend of mine, I mean, the only friend of mine. He was one of the general in the kingdom.
He has light blue hair, pointed nose, sharp jawline and a well build body that suited his appearance. He was like a prince, that every girl would fall for. He was not that old too, and he is the first boy that became a general at a young age.
Not that I helped him. He worked hard for it and earned his name himself. Which made me proud like a mother.
Who wouldn't? He became a slave at the age of 7. He experience different pain that I didn't. I met him at the age of 8, while he was 10.
It was such an unexpected meet up. King Arthur was punishing him, while I heard him crying and pleading to stop. We were visiting the neighboring kingdom near us.
I was sitting at the end of the table. Mother and father are both beside me, while King Arthur was at the other side of the end. The lunch was delicious, we were just waiting for dessert.
He rang the small bell beside his plate. Servants walked in unison and brought the dessert down the table at the same time. Every (adult) Royalty got theres, but I didn't so any of mine.
Then a boy much older than me came into view. He looks nervous while walking, everyone's attention was on him. It was all good, but he accidentally tripped, resulting the dessert to shove at my dress.
Everyone gasp, while all I did was blink. In just a mere second, King Arthur was holding the poor boy. Dragging him out the room while he was wincing.
“Darling?”
My eyes blink one more time. Our eyes met, fear is evident in his dark brown eyes.
“Darling?”
“Yes? Mother.”
I shook my head slowly and looked at my mother and father. They were looking worried but I smiled at them.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes Mother. A mere Ice cream, can't hurt me. But I am quite worried for the boy, that had tripped.”
Father took my hand and squeeze it. He gave me smiled and patted the top ofy head.
“Such a sweetheart”
“Yes, she is.”
“Her highnesses. May I take Princess Kala to change?”
The three of us looked at the maiden. Then I looked at both of them and smile.
“You may.”
Father helped me out the seat. The servant smiled at me and guided me to a certain room. She helped me clean up the mess.
“May I look around?”
She looked at me and bowed her head. When she walked away, I started to wander off. After a few walk, I reached the garden.
It was filled of roses. So peaceful and silent, or so I thought. I heard faint sobs, near the white bush of roses.
Slowly walking at it. I saw the boy who had served me the dessert. He was hugging his knees and I felt bad.
Having the urge to hug him, came in me. Not in a second, I was hugging him while his body tensed up.
“I'm sorry.”
He looked at me and immediately stood up breaking the hug. He was about to bow, but he winced. I looked at him with worry, when I saw more tears streaming down his cheeks.
“What happened?”
“M-my back....”
Without a warning, I lifted his shirt. My eyes widened in horror, when I saw his back. Tears started to fall down my eyes.
“Goodness! What happened?”
Hugging him and giving him comfort. I waited for him to tell his story. He said that the scars was from the punishments that he received for messing up.
He warmed up to me and I got comfortable. In just a nick of time, I felt attach. He was like a brother that needed to be protected.
After I heard a bell. I took his hand and pulled him to run. We runner through the hallway until we reached the royal room.
Bursting in the doors, I dragged him and runned towards my parents. They are looking at us, wondering. Sighing softly, I looked at my parents, eyes are filled with determination.
“Mother, Father. I want him!”
I shouted. I heard gasps, as I pointed the boy which I was holding.
“Darling, what do you mean?”
“I want him to be by my side. I want him to be my friend. I want him to be my loyal subject.”
“Hey, Reina.”
“Huh? What did you say?”
“I said, you're ugly.”
“Excuse me!?”
