Chapter Three - Stranger Danger

881 Words
I pull up in the gym parking lot and race into Marcus. He turns and quickly see’s I'm scared. “Right class early finish today and we’ll pick this up again tomorrow,” he comes bounding over to me. “What’s wrong Maia? I can sense and smell your fear”. He grows impatient as I try to get the words out – “I.. I… there was a dark hooded figure standing over Alissa! The same one who killed our pack!” I sobbed, “WHAT?! When?” he said gritting his teeth. “About an hour ago I couldn’t tell them, Marc, they don’t know! He saw me and left immediately I’ve locked up the house again. We don’t have long please help me?” I sobbed again. “Ugh,” Marcus sighs. “I knew this would happen” he muttered. I look at him surprised, why would he expect something like this?! “Come with me Maia it’s about time I told you more about your family,” he says unable to look me in the eyes. We go to his car and drive out to the cliffs. We park and walk in almost total silence until we reach the top. “Are you going to tell me why the f**k you expected this and said nothing?!” I say angrily. I couldn’t hold it anymore he was meant to protect me and help me protect my human family. Marcus grabs my arms “Maia I’m sorry I just wasn’t sure. Those Rogues assumed you were dead and they now know you are not. We have to leave... NOW.” He immediately starts walking to the car again. “What do you mean leave? I can’t just leave and I’m not running away if they’ve come to finish the job” I shout. Marcus stops and drops his head. I couldn’t tell if it was shame, anger or if he was about to throw me over his shoulder and bundle me into that car kicking and screaming. He walks towards me dominantly and I step back. He gets so close to me I can feel his chest moving with each heavy breath. *No -no stop it Maia now is not the time* I think to myself whilst trying to hide my flushed cheeks. “Maia?” he says in a sad dreary tone. “They’re not here to kill you, you remember I said you were special?” – “Yes?” I said confused. “Those green eyes and black curly locks with your snow-white complexion are uncommon here for a reason. You were heiress to the Crest-Moon pack. You’re practically royalty in the werewolf world! And those ‘rogues’ actually belong to the biggest pack in the country…” Before he can finish I blurt out “Yellowstone pack”. The Yellowstone pack are the largest and most brutal pack in the country, there were always rumors that the Alpha and my father didn’t see eye to eye. “Yes, Maia” Marcus sighs. It was at that moment it dawned on me. I am 18 in three days which means I will be of age for a mate and finally able to transform into my wolf for the first time. “Could this be why they are here?” I ask nervously. “I think so love – we should get you away from here” Marcus insists. “But if they don’t want to kill me then why should I leave?” I sense Marcus is not telling me everything. As good of a liar as he can be I can see through his bluff as he begins to fidget nervously. “Out with it Marcus” I said angrily. “Your father did have a problem with the Alpha because he wanted to ‘acquire’ you for himself. When your father refused our pack was attacked by the same dark hooded wolves”. / “You are a Lycan Maia just like your Mother and Grandmother before you.” Excuse me? A Lycan? One of the rarest and only living Hybrids. How could I not know this?! My mind begins racing with so many questions but I notice the sun is about to set so there was no time to ask. “Marcus please take me home It's late – Can we meet tomorrow? I want you to tell me everything!” and without a second thought Marcus responds “I’ll pick you up at 10 am love. Call me if anything else happens” and with that we drive home. When we arrive he taps me on the head like a child which I hate and he does it just to annoy me. Marcus waits for me to enter the house befire driving away, it's kind of cute when I think about it. “I said before dark Maia” Samantha murmurs waiting for me in the front room. She raises an eyebrow as she lifts her eyes from her book waiting for an explanation. “Sorry Mum I and Marcus lost track of the time it won’t happen again”. “I know it won’t” Sam smirks. “I know you’re practically an adult but you know I’m just looking out for you – in the future, a text will do” and with that, I drag myself upstairs to avoid an awkward conversation. But you didn't have to cut me off // Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing// And I don't even need your love // But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
