I told Mr. Goodman that people would be arriving in groups of three or four, and the two boys and I settled down to wait. When all of our guests had assembled, I sent the kids to the dining room to eat. Then I invited the adults up to the study and offered them something to drink. When they were settled, glasses in hand, I took the floor. “Here’s how I suggest we proceed with this,” I said. “As soon as the kids have eaten, I want to take them down the hall to my home office one at a time and record their statements. My secretary will transcribe them first thing Monday morning, and we’ll arrange to get them to your children for their signatures.
