I can't let it happen

Sona POV I walked steadily back toward the company building, making sure no one noticed me or even suspected that something had happened on the rooftop. The anger that had consumed me only a few moments ago had finally begun to settle, but my heart was still racing. Back there, I had been so overwhelmed by rage that I had barely realized what I was doing. Everything had happened so quickly. I still could not believe that Richard had been Marvin in the past. What more could those people possibly have done to me? They had taken everything from me. They had destroyed my kingdom, murdered my parents, stolen the Snake Charm, and left me to suffer for millions of years. Even after all this time, the pain still felt as fresh as though it had happened yesterday. I tightened my fists as I walked through the hallway. For so many years, I had lived with only one purpose: revenge. Now that I had finally taken the first step, I expected to feel satisfied. Instead, my heart felt heavier than before. I continued toward my office, trying to calm myself. Even though Richard was dead, I had failed to get the answers I needed. I should have questioned him before ending his life. At the very least, he could have told me where Patel was hiding. What if Patel had changed his appearance? What if he was living under another identity? Or even worse... What if he was already dead? If that were true, then how was I ever supposed to recover the Snake Charm? That thought alone made my chest tighten. I was only a few steps away from my office when I heard someone call my name. "Miss Sona." I stopped walking. Even before turning around, I already knew who it was. "Yes, Mr. Rollins?" I slowly turned until I was facing him. For the past few days, something about him had changed. Ever since last night, I had begun feeling strangely uncomfortable whenever he was near me. During the eleven months I had worked under him, I had never once felt this way. It was as though there was something hidden behind those calm eyes. Something I could not explain. "Good morning, sir," I greeted politely, forcing myself to remain calm. "Good morning." His reply surprised me. His voice was softer than usual. Much calmer. Nothing like the cold, commanding tone I had grown used to hearing every day. For a brief moment, I found myself studying his face. Was I imagining things? Or had something truly changed? "Have you seen Richard?" Dev asked. "I have an important assignment for him." The moment those words left his mouth, my heart skipped a beat. Richard. The image of his lifeless body lying on the rooftop flashed through my mind. I had killed him. For millions of years I had waited for justice. For millions of years I had dreamed about avenging my parents and reclaiming my kingdom. Now one of those responsible was finally gone. Yet hearing his name spoken so casually made guilt creep into my heart. "Miss Sona?" Dev's voice pulled me back to reality. "You seem distracted." I blinked several times before answering. "I... I haven't seen him anywhere this morning." The lie left my lips with difficulty. I wasn't sure whether my nervousness came from speaking to my boss or from knowing that I had just murdered one of his employees. Either way, my heart refused to settle. Dev narrowed his eyes slightly. For a second, I thought he had seen through me. "Are you alright?" he asked. That question again. Why did he keep asking if I was okay? Was he simply being concerned? Or did he know something? I couldn't tell. Before I could answer, he spoke again. "I need you in my office in ten minutes." Just like that, his expression hardened. His voice returned to its usual cold tone. Without waiting for my response, he turned around and walked away. I watched him disappear down the hallway. How strange. He rarely came looking for me himself. Normally, he would send Norah or another secretary whenever he needed something. Why had he come personally today? Did he suspect something? Or was I simply allowing my fears to cloud my judgment? I slowly entered my office and closed the door behind me. The silence inside felt strangely comforting. I leaned against the door and closed my eyes. "Lord Shaghan," I whispered softly, "please show me the right path." I walked toward my desk and sat down. The office suddenly felt much smaller than usual. My thoughts refused to settle. Then another realization struck me. My eyes widened. The body. I had left Richard's body on the rooftop. How could I have forgotten something so important? Panic rushed through me. If anyone found him before I got rid of the evidence, everything would be over. The police would begin investigating. The company would become a crime scene. Sooner or later, someone would connect Richard's disappearance to me. I could not allow that to happen. Not now. Not when my revenge had only just begun. Without wasting another second, I stood up, hurried out of my office, and made my way toward the elevator. Several employees looked at me with curious expressions as I rushed past them. Normally, I would have smiled politely. Today, I ignored every single one of them. Nothing mattered except reaching the rooftop. The elevator seemed slower than ever before. Each passing second felt like an eternity. Finally, the doors opened. I stepped out and hurried toward the rooftop entrance. The cool morning breeze greeted me the moment I pushed open the heavy metal door. I quickly looked toward the exact spot where Richard's body had been lying. Then I froze. The rooftop was completely empty. My eyes searched every corner. Nothing. No body. No blood. No sign that anyone had died there. My breathing became uneven. "What?" The single word escaped my lips. "This can't be happening." I walked around the rooftop several times, searching every possible place. Still nothing. My heart began pounding against my chest. Had Richard survived? No. That was impossible. I had felt the life leave his body. I knew he had died. So where had he gone? Had someone taken him away? If Richard was somehow still alive, then everything was about to become much worse. He would expose me. He would warn the others. And Patel..... Patel would disappear forever. "I can't let that happen," I whispered. My revenge had only just begun. I refused to lose before the battle had even started.
