Finally, Fey looked at her and asked like she didn't know her.
"Who are you?"
Taken aback for a moment, because she assumed everyone in RichCreek already knew who she was, she didn't reply immediately. But, once her composure was regained, she said.
"Kiki Billings. Now you, standing there (indicating in the direction of Pat) with your mouth open like you want to catch flies, why don't you shut it and get out."
Pat was shocked at her audacity and turned to look at his boss, who silently nodded, signifying obedience to Kiki's order to him and he swiftly exited the office, shutting the door behind him.
After he left, Fey asked Kiki, "Why the rude interruption this Monday morning? What can I do for you?"
Without hesitation or even blinking, Kiki replied, "I want to buy your business".
*Few weeks ago*
Kiki Billings had just a few hours ago completed the purchase of yet another thriving business and was ready to take on another. She should take a break, but why do that when she could just proceed with acquiring more businesses after all? Her target wasn't even close. She turned to her assistant who had been silently waiting for her order, already knowing who her boss really was. If she doesn't take a break, you dare not do so, even if she does take a break, it doesn't apply to you as well.
"Which business is currently trending on the news? Prepare the documents and get the required information on how to take down the boss."
"Erm..." Belinda hesitated, not because she wasn't sure of the information, but because she thought that her boss could be well over her head on this one. The trending business belonged to no other but the famous Fey Adams. A ruthless yet gentle business woman who made her fortune from being ruthlessly gentle. She could be a tiger when necessary and an angel next. One just had to be sure not to get bitten because her bite could be fatal.
"Cat got your tongue?"
Kiki threw at her, clearly impatient and ready to start on it. It shouldn't take her more than five business days to seal the deal. After all, she had just sealed this last deal in two days and every businessman is the same for her. Find their weakness and you have yourself a new business. Its quite amazing how she successfully manages all these businesses as she's always busy acquiring more and it seems like that's all she seems to think of.
"Ma'am, the current targeted business belongs to Miss Fey Adams. After careful study, I would advise that we take it slow or, better still, move on to the next as she has been rumored to give zero chances of survival to enemies."
"Shut up!" Kiki threw angrily.
"When did I ask for your advice and when have I ever failed to acquire a business? In the last year, I've acquired a total of thirty-seven businesses, both big and small, and here you are telling me what I can and can't do. Get out and get me information on her weaknesses and you have just two hours to do that or you consider yourself fired."
Just as she was about to leave. The boss said "get me coffee now!"
"Phew." Belinda asked her assistant to make and take coffee to the boss now. Yes, as Kiki would never take the trash which others took, even if her life depended on it.
Quickly she went to work on getting the information her boss asked for. Normally, she would leave the job to her much needed assistant ( sometimes she wondered if her boss was a robot or just superhuman, as she never seemed to stop and everyone just had to keep going as well. So she asked for and got herself an assistant. Yes, an assistant with her own assistant.) and focus on finding out more about the business they were to acquire, the best team to manage it, and the perfect setup, which gives her boss no reason to concern herself over it but rather focus on MORE!.
It has been an hour. Kiki called for Belinda.
"Why did your assistant bring coffee to me when I clearly asked you to do it?"
"I needed to go straight to work on finding Miss Fey's weaknesses." She answered weakly.
Kiki lowered her eyes towards her. The truth was that she was frustrated, as she couldn't, in the last hour, find anything about Fey even though she had the best detectives in her pay role (times like this when her assistant was a little unsure, she used her detectives), they found absolutely nothing about Fey. Well, it's just not possible. Everyone had dirt. Her's (Fey) was just buried a little too deep but she must find them.
"Well?"
Belinda shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot, looking anywhere but at her boss. The truth was that she was ready to quit as she wouldn't want to wait for her boss to fire her, as so far, she had not a clue of where Fey came from or if she had an origin other than six years ago when she started appearing on a regular on the business page of famous magazines and even on TV.
"Ma'am, with all due respect, I would like to put in my resignation ..."
It was just then that Kiki noticed the small envelope her assistant had with her when she came in. She just dismissed her saying...
"Get back to work".
Kiki was horrified about losing her assistant. Belinda has been the best assistant she's ever had and is the only reason why her businesses continue to grow, even with the less attention she pays to them and losing her would be a major disaster. She had no choice but to focus her attention on her already acquired businesses while leaving all the dirty work to the detectives with strict instructions to bring any information found on Fey to her ASAP.
Two days ago was exactly four days after the private investigators were asked to find any information they could on Fey, yet not more than the same information the tabloids had already printed was given. Kiki was starting to feel they were incompetent after all, as her frustration grew. She had worked and checked on all her businesses, which apparently didn't require much of her attention apart from the monthly review as Belinda was on top of it all. Silently and grudgingly, she was starting to admit that her assistant was right in saying she was in over her head on this one. She wouldn't give up though, as what is business if you can't prove to your competitors that you are way better?
With that thought in mind, she smiled widely and decided to positively go about her affairs and wait for the right moment to strike and take what's hers.
