Duke's saving grace lies in the fact that he returned with a bunch of flowers for Dixie. The gesture made a huge impact on her, and she had a change of heart towards her initial plan of hurting him last night. He even invited her home to finish the delicious meal, as it was too much for just one person and the remainder would still be enough for two. She was hoping that his change in demeanor towards her from last night would distract him from asking for his key. In this mood, she did not wish to lie to him and she certainly would not be returning the key. It is hers now and always.
