Elvina.
Darkness had covered the sky. I was still in my room pondering over the advice Evangeline had given me. How will I cope with being a servant to the woman who stole what belonged to me?
The most interesting was Evangeline's instinct that Alpha King's amnesia wasn't right. How could he recall his personality, including the people around him except me? Was that lady once in his life that made him talk much of her?
I curled up my legs and rested my elbows on them. I had decided not to leave until I set my eyes on the Alpha King again.
“My Luna, did you say she threatened you with your brother's life?” Evangeline walked closer to me with a cup of coffee.
I nodded, took the cup from her, and sipped from it. “She did! I wonder how she knew that I had a brother and the business it had to do with becoming her servant. If becoming a palace servant was a must, then I'm sure the whole pack would be here, right?”
Evan nodded. “Exactly! Maybe because you are an Omega. But still, that's not a reason, since lots of Omegas are out there with freedom surrounding them. I'm just certain that she has a reason to want you to stay back.”
I arched my brows, gaze affixed on Evan. “What reason do you think? I can't come up with one. She should just be focused on playing her role perfectly.” I adjusted my butt which had been on the floor. “And, wasn't she supposed to have me tossed out so the Alpha King wouldn't fall for me again?”
Evan nodded and transfixed her palm on her cheek. “Then it's more odd now that you talked about it. Isn't she scared that the Alpha King will regain his memories and begin longing for you again?”
I pouted my lips, unsure of what to say.
“Well, I came to tell you that the Alpha King is back in the palace. I guess he must be in the hall chamber….”
My eyes sprang wide. “What? So quick? Luna Dowager….”
Evan shut my lips with her finger. “Shhhhh!” she let go of my lips. “Don't you think that b***h must have convinced her too? I have a bad feeling about this.”
“Me too—” I cut in and strengthened my legs.
She nodded. “That's why you must stay in this palace, not because of that threat, but for the Alpha King.”
I released a deep breath and wiped my forehead. “It's so hot in here….”
“The air conditioner is on. You must be too nervous.” Evan patted my shoulder. “Put yourself together and agree to it first. She must have everything planned already, so you must be careful to not fall into her traps.”
“I wonder if I will get paid too. I'm so bankrupt here that I can't tell how I would cater for my brother again…..” I hissed and rumbled my hair. Everything was just tiring. From being divorced to being threatened by your opponent to do what no one would expect you to do.
It still baffled me why Alina wanted me to stay behind, knowing that she took my position, and for someone like her who snatched my Alpha, my presence around Alpha Nikolai wouldn't be in her favor.
When I had calmed my nerves, I decided to take a look around the palace and indirectly stumble onto the Alpha King, so I emptied the cup of coffee as soon as I could before hurrying out of the room.
I went through the unusual route that led to the front veranda, and there, I sighted Alina discussing with Luna Dowager.
“It would be better to approach them there so I would know if it was their agreement,” I mumbled beneath my breath and hastened my steps, moving towards them.
I reached and bowed to them, as a commoner that I was now.
“Luna Dowager…” I muttered, sparing Alina a glance. “I had signed the divorce earlier….”
“Alina already told me, so no need for that.” she cut me short, gesturing.
Wow! They were in the same lane now. So, I was the divorced Luna demoted to a servant. What a nice title that is.
“So,” Alina began, “you will start serving me from today, and since you are left with nothing, I will start taking care of your brother. Is that okay with you?”
Alina gestured. Every word that left her throat could tell how serious she was. Does she really mean it? So, if I had refused, my brother would lose his life….but since I accepted, she would take care of my brother.
‘I wonder how she knew that Henry was my weakness. Luna Dowager must have told her.’ I thought and adjusted the collar of my clothes, stretching my lips into a fake smile, and then I bowed to her. “That's so nice of you. Thank you so much….”
She nodded. “You will also get paid three times the salary of the other servants. I will take care of that too….”
What was wrong with her? Alina wasn't doing all these out of benevolence. She must have a motive…..it's so vivid. How can an enemy become nice without expecting something in return? She must know that I was once Luna.
“Don't you like my offer?” she pulled my attention.
I scoffed and shook my head. “Not that! I'm just shocked that you're being so nice…..”
“Of course! I have to be nice to a wolfless female like you. It's a pity you lost your position and there's nothing I could do other than take up the role. So, to be getting all those goodies from me, you would just be my servant and focus on your job.”
I knew it. Being her servant is just equal to being in a cage. She still thinks I'm wolfless, and must be scared that I would leave to find a remedy to Alpha's sickness so quickly.
I nodded to her. “What else do I want if not money? Since I will get paid such an amount, I will do nothing other than serve you….”
I spared Luna Dowager a glance. She pulled a devilish smirk on her face.
“Now that we've agreed on this, I think you should start by cleaning up my room.” Alina sneered. Her gaze narrowed.
I bowed to her and hurried into the palace building.
Now, I've come to know what she's up to. At least, my brother would still live while I fight my battles here. I struggled alone with the Alpha King when he was passing through his healing process. Through me, he became the true Alpha King and no longer the Alpha Nightwalker, known as a beast.
As I approached the Alpha’s doorpost, the door flung open and the one my eyes caught was the Alpha King scowling at me. He grabbed my hand and drew me into his room, forcing me to sit on the sofa.
My heart skipped repeatedly. I was unable to say a word even as my lips dropped open.
“Why are you still in the palace when I ordered you to sign the divorce papers and leave?” he growled at me, chest expanding.
That voice wasn't cruel this time….it was filled with care—and concern. Did he recall the memories of us together?
