"On your feet, Maggot," Madam Poof yelled as she hit me with a broomstick.
"Get up right now, you piece of s**t. Have you forgotten that you're a slave around here?" Madam Poof continued.
I look up at her with a grin as I struggle to stand.
"I'm up! I'm up" I say. Why have you woken me up this early? Isn't this the early hours of dawn,” I shrieked.
"Yes It is,” Madam Poof replied with a smile. "Such times are befitting of a Slave like you,” She laughs out loudly handing me the broomstick.
The morning is greeted with hours of labor as I ensured that I cleared up the portion of land I was given to clean up. I was given other things to do and struggled to find time to rest in between the many duties I had to perform that day.
It was one aspect of this new life I dreaded and had always wondered how long it would last.
At the cool of the evening, Madam Poof returned to inspect what I had done and get me to my private cell afterwards. The walk back to the prison yard was a long and tiring one that left me gasping for breath when I finally got into my cell. As usual I was chained in there because of the kind of criminal they saw in me. But this was no longer my problem as I had acclimatized to those very unfavorable conditions. Although, that was the case, this was unlike anything I had ever experienced before.
"Alas! Never have I felt more like a slave than I was made to feel today. What a life!" I wailed.
I then fell asleep on the spot only for me to open her eyes to see myself in a dream. The sun was shining bright, the flowers looking lovely, the air mildly saturated and with a poignant fragrance. It was a setting I had never seen in a very long time, long before my dad died. So I lifted my hands to hold a branch right in front of me. The branch had a beautiful looking butterfly that crept slowly onto my finger and flapped its wings in an adorable way that got me uncontrollably.
"Sophia! Sophia!" A voice called out.
I turned swiftly in the direction of the voice. It sounded like a voice i was very familiar with.
"Could it be him?" I mumbled to myself quietly.
"No! It can't. I couldn't possibly dream about him all of a sudden, particularly now that I really need to rest and enjoy this beautiful moment that I'm having," I continued.
Then I looked ahead and saw what appeared to be a knight in shining armor. A prince charming with an admirable physique. The brightness of the sun made is difficult for me to see the face of this person walking out of the middle of nowhere.
"Clint! Sophia!" They both said at the same time.
"Wow! I'm so glad you're here" Clint said smiling.
"Me too,” I chuckled.
"This is the future that awaits us after I free you love. I asked you to trust me, didn't I? This and many more do I have in store us. It's going to be a life you've never experienced. I love you," Clint said.
"I love you too. Honestly, I'd do anything to have this life with you. Especially after the kind of day that I had, Please Clint take me with you. I don't want to go back to a life of s*****y. It's gruesome!” I said, holding him tightly.
We then enjoyed warmth and pleasure in each other's embrace while we laid on the grasses in the field pressing them to the ground. The sounds of chirping birds ensued and filled the atmosphere. It was a moment they really cherished even though they had the feeling that it was a dream because it seemed too good to be true.
A world without wars, battles, evil, sufferings and death. A world where beauty was appreciated, a world of peace, a world where good was the order of the day was what we both craved yet it seemed such world was too far away. The romantic moments continued as darkness gradually crept in and the night was already here. The cool breeze blew all over our bodies and I didn't want it to come to an end already.
"Ahhh! It's morning already. What a beautiful dream," I said as I opened my eyes the following day.
I squinted a little as the rays of the early morning sun converged on my eyeballs. It left me staring for quite sometime before i got up to shake off the tiredness that came with such a lengthened period of rest.
"I haven't had this in a while," I said.
"Yesterday's activities left me feeling very sore. I really hope today turns out better. I feel it would considering how I had a wonderful dream last night," I smiled, wearing a dreamy yet satisfying look.
"Damn! Where's Clint? I haven't seen him for quite sometime. Maybe he's still putting together those plans that would ensure that I leave this miserable place. Take a look at my skin, bruises everywhere. I don't think I'm cut out for this kind of life," I said to myself.
"But what if his plans fail? What is my hope? Wouldn't my condition worsen? His father already doesn't like me. Would I be shown mercy that time or killed on the spot? Who then would come to my rescue? I think I should just tell Clint to be more cautious and meticulous or better still come up with a plan of my own a foolproof one," I mumbled.
"Well, who knows I just me lucky," I added.
The thoughts of Salvation and those of a happily ever after with Clint mixed together in my head and all I could feel was this exceptional kind of euphoria that couldn't be explained.
"Sophia! Snap out of it! Come back to real life! You have duties to attend to. Those bushes wouldn't cut themselves," I said in a bitter tone.
