I was up again before the sun rose. I was too excited to sleep last night so I mostly just tossed and turned. But what time I did sleep my dreams were invaded by Dolph. His eyes staring deep into my soul as his hand explored every inch of my body. Just as this dream brought me right to the edge of ecstasy, I awoke.
Frustrated both mentally and sexually, I stomped my way to the shower to prepare for the day ahead. I sat for a long time trying to decide what to wear. I ended up choosing a pair of grey leggings and a oversized sweater.
Dolph was already waiting for me at the kitchen table when I appeared a half hour later. He had breakfast waiting and my daily dose of the gross liquid.
He was wearing a pear of black swear pants and a long sleeve shirt. His hair wasn’t combed. He welcomed me with a boyish grin.
“Good morning sunshine”, he beamed as he handed me my cup.
After breakfast, we headed outside to the same trail I had ran the day before.
“I ran this one yesterday, theres no waterfall down this trail.”
Dolph grinned as he opened a bottle of water.
“Ah, but there is. It’s my secret spot.”
I rolled my eyes and giggled at his hand motions when he said the word secret.
“All right. You lead the way”
We ran the trial just as I had done, when we made it to the lake, Dolph veered right I got the woods. It took all I had to keep up with him. He was fast, and watching him run alongside me sent shock waves through my body. He was so damn cute.
We finally stopped in front of a breathtaking waterfall. I tried to catch my breath as I took in my surroundings. It was magnificent.
“I transitioned here for the first time alongside my parents. I come here often. Nobody knows about it except us…and now you.”
I was honored that he trusted me enough to bring me here. But I couldn’t shake the anxiety I had about watching his transition.
“Are you ready?”
I nodded, but I knew I wasn’t.
Dolph began climbing the rocks to the top of the falls. I watched him as he got closer to the top. He disappeared from my sight for a moment and reappeared wearing only his boxers. I sucked in my breath as I took in the sight of his nearly naked body standing on top of the falls.
In a swing motion, Dolph jumped from the falls. I screamed from sheer shock as I watched his body transform from man to wolf. He hit the water hard and I was almost certain he was hurt. I scanned the water looking for any sign of life.
Suddenly, a creature appeared from the lake. It was him.
His wolf was black as night, his eyes emerald green. He walked up to me as I stood frozen in fear. I wasn’t sure what exactly had just happened. Did Dolph’s wold recognize me or would he tear me to shreds right there. I was answered by nudge of the wolfs nose against my hand.
I ran my fingers through his silky fur. The wolf nuzzled against me as I took in his beauty. I wondered in that moment what my own wolf looked like. I felt guilty for abandoning her all these years.
We are one.
She whispered again. I sighed in agreement, we are one.
After what must of been hours of laying on the forest floor with Dolph’s wolf, he finally stood and made his way back to the lake. I followed him. As he slowly entered the water, I watched until his entire body was submerged, then disappeared.
Dolph rose from the water in his human form. His body glistened from the lake water, he walked up to me and before I knew what happened, he kissed me.
His kiss was gentle, but my body reacted before my mind could and I crashed into him. Grabbing him by his neck and bringing him to me. Shock waves surged through my body as his tongue explored my mouth, and then my neck.
I let out a moan and flung my head back.
“f**k, Sofia.” Dolph moaned as his hands began to explore the parts of my body his tongue hadn’t reached yet. I began to pull at his boxers when he grabbed me by my shoulders.
“We can’t do this.” He whispered breathlessly.
I could feel the embarrassment flood my face as I stood there soaking in his rejection.
I was silent.
“Sofia, we can’t do this because If we do it’ll kill you and I can’t control myself around you like this”
“What do you mean it will kill me?”
Dolph ran his fingers through his hair.
“You are my mate.”
His words hit me like a ton of bricks.
“If we do this, I won’t be able to stop myself from marking you…which is too dangerous”
I felt my embarrassment turn to anger.
“Mark me? Mate? Is that why you did all of this? Saved me because your wolf needs a mate.” I was loud, I was furious.
I knew he was taken aback by my reaction.
“Sofia, it’s not like that. I have no control over this and neither do you.”
“Oh I don’t? Watch me. I don’t care if your wolf whines for the rest of its days. No man will ever have claim to me again.”
“Sofia…” Dolph’s eyes darkened and I could tell I hit a nerve but I didn’t care. My pain turned into anger. My heart was broken. All this time I thought Dolph cared for me, but he didn’t. He said it himself, he didn’t have a choice.
I turned and ran back to the pack house, leaving Dolph behind.
