Chapter 15

Jacob's POV

Shortly after the Alpha left, the luna woke up. " Where is Aidrian?" She had asked so quietly that I would have missed it if I weren't a werewolf.

" He....Um, went for a run. He will be back soon, Luna." I told her calmly, hoping that it was true. I didn't know what had happened the last time Rocky was like that. Aidrian had a hard time getting him back under control.

"Is..is he okay?" she asked just as softly.

" Oh yeah, Rocky needed to run, is all," I told her.

She looked confused as she looked at me. " Rocky? Who's Rocky?"

" That's Alpha's Wolf's name," I told her.

" OH," she said, looking thoughtful for a minute." Did I tell him what my wolf's name is?" she asked, looking at me.

" Um... I don't know," I said, then immediately linked Aidrian.

" Hey, um... "Before I could say anything else, there was a low growl across the link, and I knew it was Rocky sighing. I closed the connection and decided she could ask him when he returned.

When she grew quiet again, I looked over at her and saw her staring out the window, seeming lost in thought. Just as I started to move closer to her, the door opened, and the doctor came in and checked everything over. " Luna, I'm Doctor Bryson," he told her calmly and softly.

" How are you feeling?" he asked, watching her closely.

" Better," she replied quietly.

He nodded." Well, I want to keep you in overnight for observation, but you should be able to go home tomorrow," he told her, but he was looking at me as he said it.

"Okay, I will let the Alpha know, Doc," I told him, nodding in acknowledgement.

" You get some rest now, Luna," he said, patting her hand.

He turned and walked away, quietly opened the door and closed it just as quietly; I watched him leave before I turned my attention back to Luna, noticing that her eyes were getting heavy.

I sat in the chair beside her, and soon she was asleep. Now, I just hoped that Alpha would be back soon.

Aidrian's POV

I was in the clearing when I got a link with Jacob come through; I answered immediately, worried that something was wrong with my mate.

" Hey ...Um..." was all he got out before Rocky started growling in the link. He closed it right away. And I was irritated at first. Then I realized that Rocky had picked up on something.

He got up and ran for a while, then slowed down, and through his eyes, I could see. Two men were talking; one of them I knew was Josh Black. He was one of my best warriors, joining the pack just before I took over. But who was he talking to?

" Yeah, you don't want her. She's mated to the Alpha,'' I heard him say to the other man, but I couldn't make out what the other man was saying; I saw Wyatt nod and then turn away and start walking.

I stayed and watched the other man for a while. It was clear he wasn't a shifter human, maybe; he looked about five foot seven or so with a shaved head. If you asked me, he was on the thin side, and I could see his eyes as he was wearing sunglasses even though it was starting to get dark out, which struck me as odd.

Another thing that struck me as odd was he had no scent. Even with Rocky's nose in the air, I couldn't detect his scent, which made me uneasy. Something told me he had something to do with the kidnappings, and from what I could gather from what I heard, he was after my mate, but why?

I watched him until he went to his car and made a mental note of the model and license plate and to have Josh brought in for questioning.

I made my way back to the clearing where my clothes were, and Rocky picked them up in his mouth and went behind a tree where I shifted and dressed; the only thing that mattered right now was getting back to my mate and making sure she was safe.

" Hey, is Shiann okay? " I linked to him as I ran through the forest, trying to return to her side.

" Yeah, she's okay," he told me, but I could tell there was something else he wanted to say.

"What aren't you telling me?" I demanded.

" Hey, hey, it's nothing important," he said in a rush.

" I'm almost there. I'll see you in a few minutes," I said as I closed the link.

Getting back to the hospital seemed like forever, but it only took a few minutes. Knowing that someone was after my mate, I couldn't ease the tightness growing in my chest.

I hurried down the hall to her room, and when I opened the door, I saw my Beta sitting on the chair beside her bed, and Shiann was sleeping. He looked at me and was on his feet and at my side.

I relayed what I had seen and heard to him, and he clamped his hand on my shoulder and told me he would handle everything. Then he told me what the doctor had said, and I blew out a breath I didn't even know I was holding when he started telling me.

I walked over and took the seat that Jacob had just left. I waited for my beautiful mate to wake up, but when I looked at her, her eyes were open, but her eyes were silver and ringed with gold, telling me her wolf was present.

" Hi, little Wolf. What is your name?" I asked her. I was trying to figure out why Rocky didn't tell me anything about her wolf; he wasn't all that talkative. If I was ready lucky, I might get a few grunts, but usually, that was it. But not to tell me about my mate's wolf?

" Starr," she said in a husky voice. It sounded like she didn't talk much, either.

" I can't wait to meet you," I said with honesty in my eyes and voice.

" Soon, when my human is safe," she said in the same husky voice.

"What do you mean?" I demanded

" Bad men want her because of me," her eyes closed again, and her wolf was gone.

" Rocky, You there, Bud?" I tried linking my wolf, but as usual, I got nothing

Huffing in frustration, all I could do was wait to see what was going on and what my mate's wolf had to do with anything.

I had more d*mn questions and not enough answers, which was starting to p*ss me off.
