Chapter 16

Jacob's POV While Alpha was with Luna at the hospital, I linked Sean. As soon as he arrived at my office, I looked at him. " Who can we trust with a sensitive mission?" I asked him, looking him in the eye. He looked at me, puzzled. " Um... that depends on the kind of mission." " Someone is after the Luna. We know one person involved, but we don't want to tip our hand yet," I explained, never taking my eyes from his. I'm unsure what I hoped to see or not to notice. He looked shocked, and his mouth opened and closed a few times before he found his words. "Wait, the Alpha found his mate? When? and who is after her?" Before he could ask any more questions, I held up my hand." whoa, whoa, hold up one question at a time, OK? " I told him, seeing that he was genuinely surprised and confused. "OK, first, the Alpha found his mate a couple of days ago, but we have been keeping it quiet with everything that's going on," I told him, holding up one of my fingers. " Two, it was at Lily's place when she went missing," I told him, holding another finger. " Three, the people behind the kidnappings, one of which we know very well, unfortunately," I said, holding up the last finger. He stood there staring at me with his mouth open for a few seconds. "Who?" "Before I answer that question, I have one of my own," I told him, holding his gaze, " Do you know whose cabin is on the north side?" I could tell he was thinking hard about it, finally shaking his head. " I'm sorry, the only one I can think of out that way belonged to Josh's grandfather." I nodded my head. " What I am about to tell you is in the strictest confidence." He nodded and waited for me to continue. After a few moments, " Alpha overhead Josh talking with another man who wanted the Luna." I'd never seen Sean move so fast or look so furious before. " I'll k*ll him," he yelled very loudly. Taking a deep breath to calm down myself, " Sit.Down.Now," I said, enunciating each word. He still looked furious but sat down begrudgingly, " Now I have a plan, but I will need a couple more warriors we can trust. Can you think of any?" Without hesitation, "Zack and Zane." I nodded as I linked them. "OK, I need one more for this to work, but this one will be more of a tracker who needs to stay in the shadows," I explained. "Mark Branson, he would be perfect for that one," he told me confidently. I linked him as well. We didn't have to wait too long for the three of them to arrive. Zack's dirty blonde hair was short but still shaggy; his pale green eyes were full of questions. Zane, his younger brother, had light brown hair and grey eyes that were full of questions as well. They both looked like they came straight from training, whereas Mark, who had white blonde hair and the palest blue eyes I had ever seen, was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt and looked just as confused as the other two. I wasted no time in getting down to business and explaining what I wanted them to do; I knew it would be hard for them after all; they grew up with him, whereas I have only known him a few years. After I had fielded many questions from them, they accepted the assignment and left. Then I linked Aidrian and told him what was going on. He took my plan, although not readily, but eventually, he realized my goal was better than just torturing him, where we would likely only get a limited amount of information; after all, Josh was one of our biggest challenges. I closed the link feeling so exhausted that I could curl up on my desk and sleep for a week. I probably would have if I hadn't gotten up, so I got in my car and drove to the diner where the Luna worked. I noticed many of our young warriors and newly mated couples walking in. I found an empty table in the corner and sat down. I looked up just as Josh came in with his brother Charlie. I believe I'm not sure. He left some time ago to go to college. And a young she-wolf that I vaguely recognized as Lisha white. She had her long black hair pulled back into a high ponytail and light makeup around her dark brown eyes that reminded me of a cup of dark hot chocolate; she had mocha-coloured skin and a curvy figure, not that I was looking, mind you. Josh looked around the diner, spotted me sitting by myself and approached me with Charlie and Lisha in tow. "Hey, Jacob, mind if we sit with you? It's packed here tonight, and we don't feel like going to the city." Then they sat without waiting for me to answer. Rolling my eyes, I looked at Charlie." So Charlie, how is college going?" I asked him, and as far as I knew, nothing should have made him drop everything and rush home. I gave " Yeah, everything's going great. I only have one more semester, then I graduate Fiiiinaly," he said, dragging out the last word. I nodded, and Lisha spoke up before I could ask him my next question. " I was so excited to hear from him," She said with her eyes glowing." it's spring break, so that he will be here for my eighteenth birthday. I can't wait ", she told me excitedly. I chuckled at her excitement, knowing she probably hoped Charlie was her mate. After that, it was no secret that she had had a crush on him for the longest time. I looked at Josh." Hey Hawke, can you talk with his wolf and see what you can find out? But be discreet about it, OK? " I asked my wolf. While he was talking to Josh's wolf, Onyx, we placed our orders and just made small talk for a while. We ate and continued chatting. Finally, we finished. " I'm finished talking with him, " my wolf told me. And we paid our bills, made our way out, and went our separate ways. And what Hawke told me surprised me I knew I had to let the alpha know right away.
